So he'll more than likely be the one to hire a director for the film, he'll probably collaborate with the writer to make sure the story is on trek (lol), and tasks like that.

Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As 'Fun, Watchable' I know it's a joke and all, but that video is spot on. I wouldn't consider myself a 'Trekkie' by any means, but the entire tone of the Original Series was completely lost in Abrams' vision. Not a bad movie, but it wasn't Star Trek. It was clearly a film targeted at the wider audience, and that goes against the cult status that the original show famously spawned. With that in mind, it's also the exact same reason why I believe Abrams can put out a good Star Wars movie. Star Wars WAS a popcorn flick for the masses and it's wide cultural appeal is evidence of that. George Lucas knew that it was a franchise that would greatly benefit from the advances in modern film making, but clearly got lost somewhere along the way when making the prequel trilogy. In the hands of a talented film maker such as Abrams, in an era where animatronics, CGI and general effects have taken such a leap forward, I can definitely see something more in line with Lucas' original films but with a modern spin, which could be fun.

thta kinda suprises me.like all producer credits though....how involved are they exactly?yknow? Depends on the project. Sometimes they just help promote it and gather the money, aka, producing. However there are instances like George Lucas on Episode 5 and 6 who was pretty involved in the day to day.

yeah I suppose it does depend on the project.......I have heard many stories about producers doing sweet FA on movies, but then when I think of it I have heard as many about hands on producers like Bruckheimer,Lucas,Spielberg etc.

Hell of an opportunity. That's a lot of responsibility to take and a lot of pressure is gonna be on Abrams for this one.
I have high hopes. Don't **** it up.

As do I.
Also read that the 3D conversion for the other 5 previous movies is now off the table, with Eps. 7, 8, and 9 coming.

Just read this on Cinema Blend! Great news, I never thought we would see the day when Harrison Ford would return as Han Solo, especially this far down the road.

I'm stupid in love with the way Star Wars is headed right now - Abrams at the Helm, the new comic series (only two issues in, but so far, so good), and now Ford on board. Good times!

Obviously that was before Disney but if Ford is on board then the other two are probably sure-things. I thought Ford was the wild card of the 3, seemingly over money more than anything since he's the biggest star by a country mile. Ford could probably do it just for fun at this stage. Solo's my favorite character so this really helps ease me into the whole thing personally. If the film is cannon to the expanded universe, at all, then the new trilogy will likely center around Jacen, Jaina, and possibly even Anikan Solo. Either that, or they will acknowledge Mara Jade, which she's an incredible character and I hope they do, and Ben Skywalker will be the focal point along with the twins. I'd like to see all of them in the same universe personally. Luke turning to the dark side is really the most interesting story to tell imo, and his nephew serving in the Darth Vader role as Darth Caedus would be fitting. This would allow them to include Jacen, Jaina and Ben in pivotal roles, and then Ben and Jaina could take on that Luke and Leia type duo. Just what i'd like them to do.

If they used some creative editing to put Chris Evan's head on that little body in Captain America and have it never look fake for a second...they could edit some wrinkles out of the Star Wars alum and have this take place immediately after episode IV if they wanted to. Granted, I hope they don't. I hope these characters are old in this new film. It'd be neat to see Luke in the Obi Wan role.
