I have no words for this. Crazy how a top 5-10 guy just gets released like that. Wow. www.mmafighting.com/2013/2/20/4009518/jon-fitch-among-16-fighters-released-from-ufc-on-tuesday Former welterweight contender Jon Fitch was among the 16 UFC fighters who were released from the promotion on Tuesday.
UFC president Dana White also confirmed with MMAFighting.com that the following fighters were also let go: Wagner Prado, Mike Russow, Jacob Volkmann, Vladimir Matyushenko, Che Mills, Jay Hieron, Terry Etim, Paul Sass, Jorge Santiago, Mike Stumpf, Simeon Thoresen, C.J. Keith, Motonobu Tezuka, Josh Grispi and Ulysses Gomez.
Each fighter was coming off at least one loss in his most recent fight.

Pretty insane. But at the same time, you can tell that UFC was never too big on Fitch and his style.

Bjorn Rebney just blew his load. This is like Christmas for other promotions. There are some releases I can understand, but Fitch? Really?

Fitch got released because he has a boring style. That's it. There is no other reason for him to be canned while keeping guys around like Dan Hardy(who just had a 4 fight skid). No big test failures, no big attitude problems, nothing. I don't agree with the firing and I can't STAND Fitch. No way he should be canned after going 1-2-1 in his last 4, especially considering those opponents. He just doesn't have that style that appeals to the masses

I feel bad for Fitch. First he gets "Fitch'd", then he gets "axed".

It's kind of a joke really that they can cut Fitch and keep people like Dan Hardy & Sexyama. Now I hate Fitch's style but there's no way you can justify cutting him. The UFC is getting further and further away from a legitimate sport.

This is really surprising - I mean before the Maia loss, he was the winner in the FOTN. Very strange...

You have to think about it this way: John Fitch was the number 2 Welterweight in the UFC for some time, and definitely was heading towards a title shot. Meaning he was probably being paid handsomely with his type of contract. And recently there has been a lot of talks about UFC needing to trim the fat when it comes to fighter contracts, so you take a guy like John Fitch who's record is Draw - Loss - Win - Draw. Okay so we're paying this guy a good wage, he got K.O'd in seconds and wrestle ed and the only win he has had in his last 4 fights was against a young up and comer. He isn't putting on entertaining fights on a regular basis. A large percentage of fans bitch or don't want to tune in when one of his fights are on. Why the hell pay this guy so much? So whilst I understand he was once something great, this business is about making money and honestly what has John Fitch done lately? Sure as hell isn't drawing a dime with his performances so it's smart to get rid of him.

Well Dana said yesterday Fitch was too expensive, and with his latest skid, was not worth the hefty price tag. Huh.

Wow.... Some of these releases surprise me, especially Fitch. They release him and keep Akiyama who has barely won in the UFC. Just doesn't seem right. I'm sure Fitch will be back at some point.

Well the UFC wants to break further into the Asian market, hence Akiyama being kept on. If you remember a few years ago Dana & Fitch had a run-in after Fitch refused to sign a lifetime likeness contract. Plus he's hardly the most popular fighter with what many percieve to be a boring style. Personally I like watch Fitch ( and others) controlling their opponent, but I can see other's viewpoint. Will adm it to calling him a "cheeky ******" though when he threw his arms up in frustration when Maia was FITCHING Him. When he was on a tear they couldn't do a lot, but he's on the slide right now, plus recently complained about money as well. Surprised it took this long for Dana to get rid of him to be honest.

They should bring back Daley and then cut him again.
