I never remember being able to go to a store and get 3 figures for $10 dollars. When I was around 10 you could get a G.I.Joe figure for under $3, but that was a little over 25 years ago. I don't recall ever finding a wrestling figure for under $7. When the Jakks BCA figs came out in 96 they were price pointed @ around $7 where I lived.
Hasbros were regularly 3/$10 at KB Toys, and were no more than $5 anywhere.. JusToys Bend'ems had a regular retail of $2.99 each.

You think $10 is expensive for a basic? we pay £9.99 in the UK at retail so whats that in dollars? $16-17?
lets just be clear here though your wages are more, you don't have to pay health insurance, I could list the comparisons all day. End result it balances out, but it's always fun to complain how you get shafted right? lol
for the original poster what did you expect to get your nieces if $18 for Liz was too much for you? Not being a prick it's a serious question. I am intrigued
I've got a lot of gifts from Walmart's clearance isles and just saved them back. I got my second youngest niece a giant plush ladybug for $3 just after Easter last year and saved it back for her birthday. Got one of them a Hello Kitty lunchbox for $5 when they were trying to clear out back to school stuff.. And I've found other small toys and saved them back for birthdays or Christmas.
Besides that, $18 for one toy is outrageously priced. I'd pay $18 for a playset or a large toy, maybe.. But not for a single figure. And certainly not for a single figure for me, who would just hang it on the wall and never touch it again..
