And mercifully....the 2013 Season is over for the New York Yankees. These last 4 games are meaningless, and then us Yankee fans can settle in for another long offseason of no free agent signings, and prepare for the 2014 season, which will likely be WORSE than 2013 was. I think Hank and Hal have a decision to make. They need to decide if they are in or out. And if they are going to try and get under $189, they might as well just put the cheapest team on the field as possible. I mean, why spend $188 and finish 4th? They should just get the payroll down as low as they possible can, use whatever kids they have, and just forget about it. Don't even bother bringing back Cano. It could take 5 years for the Yankees farm system to develop anything tangible, so what the hell is the point of paying Cano $20 million dollars a year for years that the Yankees have no chance at winning anything? If they aren't going to field a productive team around Robinson Cano, I say just let him walk. The Yankees need to play some 2000's Tampa Bay Devil Rays baseball...finish with the worst record in the game for 6-8 years, load up on #1 Draft picks, and try and get in a position to where we have a loaded farm system and are cranking out Even Longoria's, David Price's, James Shield's, Matt Moore's, Alex Cobb's, and players of that potential on a YEARLY basis like Tampa Bay has every year since their turn around in 2008. The Boss must be rolling over in his grave. I bet he fired Billy Martin in heaven today just for the hell of it... DOOM

They have a bunch of contracts coming off the books at the end of this season and could realistically resign Cano with a somewhat backloaded contract to give themselves a little wiggle room for a couple role players. I also don't believe the free agency pool is all that deep for them to go spend anyway. And how can you say that they won't be winning for years? They were in the playoff hunt until the final week of the season with a season full of lineups consisting of no bodies. The first few months of the season they weren't even putting a major league lineup on the field.

If the Rays and Rangers didnt go on major losing streaks at the beginning of Sep, the Yankos wouldve been eliminated 2 weeks ago

Comparing an expansion team that never did anything right and got multiple #1 picks to the Yankees, and saying the Yankos need to do that is laughable.
If the Yankees ever get the #1 pick, the world will explode. New Yorkers wouldnt know how to handle them losing all those games.
Never going to happen

Quite frankly it doesn't need to happen. Baseball isn't about DRAFT PICKS. It's about getting lucky, and putting a good solid team on the field for an entire season. Yes getting to draft potential stars helps, but how often do you get franchise changing players in a draft? maybe 1 or 2 a year....maybe. And just because you have the first pick doesn't mean it's an automatic HOFer. Look at 2009....the Angels got Mike Trout with the 25TH pick (now the funny thing is that I belive that was the pick the Yankees would have had but when they got Tex from Anaheim #25 became their compensation)
The problem with the Yankees this season was injuries. Hands down. Oh and Phil Hughes blowing chunks, and CC losing 80lbs and not being able to throw a 94mph fastball.
Look at the way the lineup was when Cano, Arod, Granderson and Soriano were all on the same page. As great as Lyle Overbay was this season (considering he was supposed to be a mediocre backup) not having a massive power threat like Tex hurts Jeter's "season" was a disaster Their pitching was a rollercoaster but you can overcome that if you have a stacked offense. The thing that killed the Yankees this season was that stretch where they got swept by the Mets & Chicago (games they easily should have won) and the last 2 series against the Red Sox where the bullpen imploded and they were flat out embarassed. If those dont happen we're looking at a completely different team here.
All you have to do in baseball is get a group of players that compliments each other and will play well together. Look at what Boston did. They were the worst team ever last year, dumped the trash went out and got some rugged solid dudes who stayed healthy and contributed...now they will most likely be WS champions. Look at what the Giants did....not much, and they went from winning 94 games and the WS last season, to winning 73 games and almost last place.
Regardless there needs to be some changes to this team. At least with pitching. Kuroda is likely gone, Hughes is gone, Joba is gone, Mo is gone, Pettitte is gone, most likely a bunch of the other role fillers are gone like David Huff. They need guys to fill the rotation because it begins and ends with that.

Robinson Cano and Jay-Z are asking for a $300 million deal. I knew he was going to ask for big money, but I thought it would be for 10 yrs/$220 million. For $300 million, the guy better be hitting .390/60 HRs/200 RBIs.

I want Hoops McCann on the Sox next year but holy mother of God is he a whiny bitch, who made him moral police? Seriously. Dude needs to calm down Gomez stared at his home run, then talked smack to the pitcher the whole way through his extremely slow trot around the bases. Although a big much, I don't really have a problem with what he did. I wish more guys had fire like that. And honestly, the Braves have been limping in September, and if something like that lights a fire in them, I'm all for it.

I still can't believe Sid scored! lol But last nights game McCann was 100% right. Gomez was the the immature baby still crying about getting hit in the leg back in June.

Gomez is a cock, cant argue that but who is Hoops to be the moral police? Same with Jose Fernandez. Blocking him from crossing home? Get over yourself dude. Gomez admitted he pimped it but McCann is just coming off as a douche lately. I didnt even think Gomez's pimp was that bad, Manny used to stare at it then jog slower than a white man in slippers around the bases.

I think it had more to do with his talking than his speed around the bases. Gomez was still butt hurt about Malholm hitting him earlier in the year.

It's not like McCann is a scrub rookie. I'd rather a player do it than hear guys like Joe Buck go off.

Yeah, it had to do with him talking trash while staring, then talking trash the entire leg of his slow homerun trot. It wasn't just because he stared the homerun down. I mean, would it really been better if McCann hadn't done that, and they hit Gomez in his next at bat? I actually prefer the telling match over the intentional beaning.

Cano wants $300 million? see ya later Robbie....we'll find someone else to play 2b, and I hope there is some other team STUPID enough to take that INSANE contract.
This crap has got to stop in baseball. Seriously. How are the Angels doing with $300million for Pujols? 10 year/$30million per contracts are horrendous. At the most you get 3 years actually worthwhile and then another 7 of "why are we paying this guy that much"....sports guys can suck Cano off all they want, he's not worth $300,000,000. No baseball player is.
Now obviously this is a negotiation tactic... Cano is 31....he should get no more than 8 years from any team MAX. And nowhere close to $30million a year. You'll end up with a decade of REGRET. He'll be just like everyone else in about 5 years.

I really hope the Yankees don't re-sign Cano. Why waste so much of the budget on one player?
