As someone who has wrestled, I'd rather put everything I had into each match I was having then watering down. I feel fine. No one has heard of me because I just felt like doing other things though I have had some more popular Northern promotions try to reach me. ANYWAYS Nigel retired because of the hep. I stand by my words and always will, it applies to any entertainers, especially in todays world of severly watered down and milked products.
Here's a question for you then. Why do you consider what is being asked for watered down? Some of the best matches I've seen come from chain wrestling and technical wrestling. Before wrestling moved into a promo heavy medium, the way to win over fans was through storytelling in the ring with actual wrestling strategies. Nowadays, a wrestler is heralded as a genius if he decides to work over a body part. If anything, it would make modern pro wrestlers better.
A lot of people complain about the five moves of doom. I believe that the five moves of doom existed since wrestling developed because of trademark moves. The reason it wasn't hated so much back then is because those weren't the only moves a wrestler had. Back then, they actually tried to wrestle before just launching into their five moves.
To me its staying creative and thinking of new ideas, not exactly going out and hurting yourself. I believe in doing the opposite. High flying is no more harmful to your body than anything else. Doing flips and stuff doesnt mean it will hurt you, flipping on to a padded mat is not going to tear you apart that is why there are still older gymnasts and free runners and martial artists, etc. I think what guys in WWE typically do tears you up worse and isnt as exciting to watch. They really strain there muscles lifting large amounts of weight and when they do get hurt they never do full recoveries.
Bottom line I just like seeing guys that try to keep things fresh and innovative. I dont see how doing that could harm anyone in WWE, just change stuff up once in awhile to stuff new and exciting. A big offender of this was Rock/Cena at Mania, it was literally the same spots from last year but even less, it was same move countered by same move. Yuck.
