OPENING
The igloo in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania erupted with fireworks, blasts and pyros as Raw was anticipated to be the night that we found out who the number 1 contender for the WWF Title will be.
JR- Welcome ladies and gentleman to another night Raw here in the igloo and tonight we're sold out with 16,000 on hand who just like us, are awaiting the news of who the new number 1 contender will be for the World Wrestling Federation Championship in 2 weeks at Backlash. Hello again everybody I'm Jim Ross, alongside Jerry 'the King' Lawler and we welcome you once again, to Monday Night Raw!!
---------------------
1st Match- Matt Hardy vs Rikishi
(Rikishi's theme hits)
JR- King, we're getting set here momentarily for Rikishi to take on Matt Hardy but also tonight, the Intercontinental title will be on the line in our main event tonight as Randy Orton looks to take the gold away from our olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle, but maybe more personal than that, the Game will challenge Shelton Benjamin for the European Title a little later on with a tonne of vengeance on Triple H's mind!
Lawler- Shelton Benjamin may as well kiss his title reign and career goodbye because I saw the Game earlier and boy JR, is he hot!
JR- Hardcore title will be on the line tonight as well folks and Booker T will attempt to make his presence felt on one half of the tag team champions, Edge!
Matt Hardy and Rikishi began the match with hard open handed hits to each others' face until Rikishi broke the ice and delivered a straight hard punch to the side of Matt's head. Following this on with an irish whip, Matt Hardy flipped over a bent over Rikishi, in an attempt to topple the big man over with a sunset flip. Matt's position wasn't looking great, and Rikishi tried to splat Matt's chest with his huge backside that was quickly scouted by Matt who rolled out of the way. After a russian leg sweep on the 450 pound Samoan, Matt climbs the top and hits a leg drop but only gets a 2 count. Matt pounds the forearms into Rikishi and runs off the ropes, caught with a thunderous samoan drop by Rikishi. Rikishi picks up the momentum and after a belly to belly suplex, Matt lands in the corner of the ring, giving Rikishi an opportunity to apply the stinkface!
Lawler- Eurghhh JR imagine the stench that comes off of that thing! Oh man...
JR- Rikishi has no hard feelings to sticking his large posterior into the features of Matt Hardy!
After delivering the stinkface, Rikishi picks up a sickened and disgusted Matt Hardy and attempts the Rikishi driver. Matt counters and tries to hit his twist of fate, which is this time countered by Rikishi, who manages to kick Matt in the sternum and lift him up for the Rikishi driver. The 3rd count is official and the bell sounds, Lilian announcing Rikishi victorious.
WINNER- Rikishi

(Cameras go to the backstage area where Kevin Kelly is with Mr McMahon)
Kevin Kelly- Mr McMahon, many of us are wondering with just 2 weeks until the big Pay Per View, who will be challenging for the World Wrestling Federation championship?
Mr McMahon- You're right that is a very good question and I think the only best possible answer I could give is to allocate the contender-ship to the man who is most deserving of that shot. Who would be most deserving, you ask? Well of course, Brock Lesnar is within his right to have a rematch with the Undertaker following his title loss, the Big Show will argue that he should have had a one on one match with the Undertaker since he won the Royal Rumble, my son in law Triple H will say that his title opportunities have been upheld for quite sometime and all the other superstars in the back such as Mankind, Chris Jericho, Kane, Rob Van Dam and Shelton Benjamin all have the capabilities to be the number one contender. So after collaborating this information together, I've decided the best decision to make is to make an over the top rope battle royal next week on Raw and the winner of that match will be the man to take on the Undertaker at Backlash. (Crowd cheers)
Kevin Kelly- Another question that I'm sure everyone is speculating about is that of the Undertaker's attack last week, some people may say Mr McMahon that what you said last week was indeed played out into actions.
Mr McMahon- I'm gonna say this once, and once only. I can guarantee you, that I had nothing to do with the Undertaker's assault last week.
--------------------------------
2nd Match- Hardcore Championship; Test vs Kane
Before Kane even gets into the ring, Test goes for a baseball slide through the bottom rope in an attempt to weaken Kane in the early going. JR reminds us that these unique match types are no disqualification and falls can count anywhere, whilst Lawler comments on how he doesn't understand the big deal of the Hardcore title with the shabby state of the belt. Meanwhile, Kane and Test battle on the outside of the ring, where Kane is sent into the steel steps and covered for a 2 count. Kane gets up and delivers a kick to Test's gut who then gets into the ring, Kane follows him as far as the ring apron and ascends the top rope, coming off the top with a hard flying clothesline that only manages to get Kane a 2 count. Kane goes back to the outside where he retrieves a baking tray, singapore cane and a lead pipe, using the singapore cane first over Test's lower back, leaving him writhing in pain. Test is then slammed hard into the canvas off a sidewalk slam, followed up by a shot with the singapore cane over the anatomy of Test, Kane goes for the pin but Test gets the shoulder up. As Kane picks up the baking tray, Test gives Kane the boot to the face, but not able to knock the big man down, after more lefts and rights, Test manages to get Kane back over the top rope to the floor. The battle continues on the outside, with Kane going headfirst into the ring post. Test grabs a chair from ringside and bashes Kane in the skull with it, the 2 end up back in the ring where Test finishes Kane off with a hard shot to the head with the baking tray and the pumphandle slam.
WINNER (and still champion)- Test
-------------------------------
JR- Test able to retain the Hardcore Championship but still to come tonight in our main event, Randy Orton will challenge the Intercontinental Champion Kurt Angle.
Lawler- And don't forget the Game meets Shelton later on for the European Championship, it's gonna be great here tonight! Oh wait a minute....
(Vince and Brock backstage)
--------------------------------
Brock- Hey Vince, you know, I really thought that you being a fair man you would have already made me the number one contender for the WWF title the night after WrestleMania, but I understand you have the 'interest' of everyone else to think about which is fine, but what isn't fine is the fact that Big Show is still in your mind a contender.
Mr McMahon- Brock as much as you won't like this, Big Show has a point. He DID win the Royal Rumble this year, and that means that he should have gone to WrestleMania to face you one on one anyway, but Eric confused the entire situation and it ended up being a triple threat match but I tell you what... Your beef with the Big Show can be resolved if you want it to be, at Backlash in 2 weeks. BUT here's the deal alright? You and Show have the match at Backlash, but if either one of you 2 win the battle royal next week, you will be competing in 2 matches at Backlash.
Brock- I got no problem with that, I've took the Big Show before, I'll easily do it again. Just like I'll easily become the World Wrestling Federation Champion.
(Brock leaves)
------------------------------
JR- My god, Big Show and Brock at Backlash?
Lawler- And that added stipulation may come back to haunt one of those 2 if they win the over the top rope battle royal next week! Can you imagine facing either Brock or the Big Show then facing the Undertaker in the same night!? Uhhh!
(Chris Benoit's music hits and the crowd cheers)
---------------------------------
3rd Match- Chris Benoit vs GrandMaster Sexay
Benoit was not at all pleased with his defeat last week and was in no mood for dancing! Benoit quickly went on the assault on Sexay, trying to hurt and dismantle him rapidly. The knife edged chops rippled throughout the arena, forcing the fans to lose their breath each time, Benoit whips Sexay into the ropes and doesn't connect with the clothesline and is met with a sharp clothesline by Sexay instead. Making his way to his feet immediately, Benoit is then met by uppercuts and left hands by the 'dancing goon' (as Lawler made fun of GrandMaster), with the fans feeling lost as to who they Favorited most. As the match progressed, we saw Benoit hit a hard shoulder breaker on his adversary, with GrandMaster not staying down for the 3 count, Sexay throws Benoit into the turnbuckle and executes a running bulldog to the middle of the ring, unable to keep Benoit down this time for 3 count. Sexay temporarily gets Benoit in an armbar, but relinquishes the hold when the wolverine manages to grab the ropes, leading to Benoit being able to detect the setup of a possible hip hop drop and suplexing Sexay off the turnbuckle.
Lawler- Benoit really wanting to prove a point here against GrandMaster Sexay tonight!
JR- The rabid wolverine certainly at the top of his game in this contest, his vicious and technical wrestling style working down GrandMaster in a big way!
Since the suplex, Sexay had been visibly weakened, and after temporarily knocking Benoit down, he couldn't connect with the hip hop drop which allowed Chris Benoit to capitalize on the opportunity, and lock in the crippler crossface leading to a tap out on GrandMaster.
Lilian Garcia- Here is your winner, Chris Benoit!
WINNER- Chris Benoit
-----------------------------
JR- Chris Benoit proving his powerhouse style can pay off and make impact on his opponents but standing by with the Big Show now is Michael Hayes, Michael take it away!
-----------------------------
Michael Hayes- Thanks JR and Big Show tonight it has been announced that not only will you be against Brock Lesnar in 2 weeks, but that you'll also be involved in a battle royal next week to determine the number contender for the World Wrestling Federation title, your thoughts?
Big Show- You know Michael, next week I have the chance to finally reclaim my chance to once again be the top champion in this company, whilst at the same time I can destroy Brock Lesnar for running his mouth again, and-
(Brock Lesnar confronts Big Show)
Brock- Something to say, Show?
(Big Show grabs Brock by the throat)
Big Show- You better hope, pray and beg that these next 2 weeks are gonna go by slower than Teddy Long's 3 count (Show shoves Brock and slowly backs off, whilst Brock grins to himself and leaves)
--------------------------------
(Lita sat in the dressing room, Victoria approaches her)
Victoria- Erm Lita, it's only just occurred to me that the last time I had a title shot one on one with you was 2 months ago... There's a lot of talk around here about contenders lately and you know as well as I do, that I'm the only worthy contender for that little title on your shoulder.
Lita- Did you not see me at WrestleMania, Victoria? I re- broke Trish Stratus' arm at the very event that she injured it in the first place, and Trish is supposed to the 'best' women's champion ever? Do you actually think your in my league? (Lita laughs whilst Victoria attacks her)
JR- Uh- oh, referees you might wanna extinguish these 2 fire crackers here!
Lawler- Get that nut Victoria off of her! What is this!?
(Edge and Christian's music hits)
4th match- Booker T w/Al Snow vs Edge w/Christian
Ahead of their tag team title match at Backlash in just 2 weeks, Al Snow and Booker T was out to send a message to the current tag team champions as well as wanting everybody to take them seriously. Booker and Edge started the match with Edge dodging a spinning kick and catching Booker with right hands before sending him into the ropes and locking him up in a sleeper hold, but as Booker was still fresh into the game he was able to get out of it and hit Edge with knife edged chops and sending him to the mat from a hip toss. Edge was appearing to be perplexed at Booker T's efforts, as JR pointed out that Booker T as a singles competitor is extremely effective and that it's just Al Snow that some may argue are the downfall of Booker T. Edge runs back after Booker T, cornering him in the turnbuckle and ramming his shoulders into his ribs and then boasted of his actions to Al Snow who was not happy with the sentiments aimed towards him. The match went back and forth, and at one point Edge gave Booker a high impact sit down powerbomb that was just seconds away from a win! Still in control, Edge gets Booker in a painful armlock.
Booker manages to fight out and deliver a roundhouse kick to Edge, sending both men down. Obviously becoming anxious about his brother Edges' chances, Christian gets up on the apron to distract the referee and try and get into the ring, Booker sees this when he eventually makes his way to his feet and has words with Christian.
Lawler- What's Booker T's problem Christian isn't doing anything! It's Al he's completely transformed Booker into even more of a dimwit than he already was!
JR- Although I agree Al Snow is somewhat odd, Christian has no right to be on the apron when a match is going on!
Al Snow slides into the ring and picks Edge up, the referee is still detained by Christian whilst Booker T and Al Snow lift Edge up into the air and drive him down with a harsh full nelson slam! Al quickly runs out of the ring and pulls Christian down and sends him into the steps, whilst Booker T was able to score the pinfall.
WINNER- Booker T
JR- Edge and Christian's plan here has just been blown up right in their faces! I think it could be possible, King, that Booker T and Al Snow have the numbers of our current Tag Team Champions!
Lawler- That's just wishful thinkin' on your part you moron that was a fluke!! Man at least things will go a little bit better tonight after this when Triple H lays out Shelton Benjamin in a few moments!
------------------------------------------
(Mankind is shown backstage coming from Mr McMahon's office when Kevin Nash assaults him with a steel chair)
------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------
5th Match- European Championship; Shelton Benjamin vs Triple H w/Kane
JR- Another wild, wild night here in Pittsburgh on WWF Raw and moments ago, Mankind was attacked in the backstage area by Kevin Nash and we are told that Mankind has suffered from a minor concussion, and any err, updates we are told we will inform you right away.
Lawler- It's not his first concussion and it won't be his last JR come on even you know that!?
(Shelton Benjamin's song plays with the crowd cheering loudly)
JR- European title to be decided here folks but in 2 weeks at Backlash, will this man Mr Benjamin still be the champion? Backlash will be in the sold out Compaq Center in Houston Texas on April 28th, and it sure is predicted to be a blockbuster night! That's April 28th, live!
Triple H made his entrance with a focused and determined expression on his face, the boos almost ineffective on the cerebral assassin. With Kane standing by his side, Triple H wasted no time doing his patented 'water spitting' on the apron and instead went straight in the ring spearing down the European Champion. The bell sounded and the right hands of the Game was crushing Benjamin's skull hard, the referee having a tough time to maintain order into the match. Triple H was in control, and executed moves such as the high knee and the suplex to Shelton. The fans were not impressed with Triple H's brutal approach to his opponent, cheering loudly for 'Y2J' is what JR said could be feeding into the Game's anger even more. Triple H stared out into the crowd, unknowingly allowing Shelton to gather himself together and try a kick to the Game, Triple H caught it and left Shelton on one leg until he span round and hit Triple H with his other foot! The Game was taken out and Shelton was trying to get back into the match, running up to the Game and hitting him with a swinging neckbreaker, Shelton pinned him but Triple H powered out of it. The Game and Champ brawled for most of the match, but the difference maker was when Shelton was on the top turnbuckle and came off it with a spinning heel kick, but Triple H pulled the referee in front of him!
Lawler- Oh no what a terrible accident!
JR- Accident!? Are you serious King!?
The referee was knocked out, but Shelton shown no signs of quit as he tried the head scissors take down that was blocked into a back breaker. Triple H took advantage of the referee's condition and demanded Kane to get the sledgehammer.
JR- And now the Game is commanding Kane to get the sledgehammer, Triple H is calling the instructions now!
(Crowd is cheering to a deafening level as Chris Jericho runs down the ramp and lamps Triple H in the ring)
Lawler- Kane look at this get in the ring and squash this idiot!! QUICK!
JR- Jericho nailing the right hands into Triple H!
Jericho catches Triple H with a flying forearm but spots Kane trying to get in the ring, and hits him with a springboard dropkick back down to the floor. Triple H is still in position for the lionsault, and Y2J lands it perfectly much to the dismay of the King. Shelton Benjamin gets back up, apparently unaware that Chris Jericho had just interfered in the match, and so pulls Triple H up to his feet and whips him into the ropes with Jericho watching on the titantron. As Triple H runs back into the European Champion, he's hooked in the T- bone suplex and is covered for a 3 count.
WINNER (and still champion)- Shelton Benjamin
JR- Chris Jericho has struck twice on Triple H and Kane, this doesn't look good for Y2J who is gonna be involved in the battle royal next week along with those 2 men!
Lawler- This man is on a death wish, he's gotten way too big for his boots since his little win at WrestleMania! Well I tell ya JR he's gonna have to pay verrry serious consequences for that kind of behavior round here!
------------------------------------------------
(BACKLASH PROMO)
(Triple H and Kane are shown backstage)
Triple H- Kane next week we don't screw this up! I want every fiber of Chris Jericho's being to be crushed! Just who the hell is this guy, huh!? You can't talk to Vince about it because he doesn't give a damn either but I tell ya what Kane, the example that I'm going to make out of him can't even be put into words!
--------------------------------------------------
6th Match- Intercontinental Championship; Kurt Angle vs Randy Orton
The challenge was laid out last week and tonight Randy Orton wants to once again become the Intercontinental Champion. The match starts off with a collar elbow tie up, with Kurt rapidly spinning round to Orton's back in an attempt to get the challenger down. JR states that Kurt's amateur style and skill is off the chart amazing, and that no one can outdo Angle on that account. Orton and Angle lock up again, this time Angle again getting the best of the hold pushing Orton into the turnbuckle. One more tie up is carried out, and Angle gets Orton in a side headlock who counters with a whip into the ropes but is grounded by Kurt again with a drop toehold. Orton rolls to the outside and tries to regain his composure, after being out wrestled by the gold medalist and current IC champion. Orton managed to score a few licks in on Kurt, connecting with standing dropkicks and body slams before dropping the knee into Kurt's skull, but as the contest went on and Angle was appearing to be losing the battle, a stiff right hand meeting with Randy's jaw sent him out through the second rope onto the floor. The battle continued on the outside, with Kurt setting Orton up for a piledriver on the announce table which got countered by Orton, who then backdropped Angle onto the table making it fall apart.
Both men were feeling the strain at this point, and back in the ring Randy had Kurt in a reverse headlock in a standing position, wrenching not only the back of Kurt, but also his head and neck areas.
JR- I'm a little surprised that Angle hasn't been exercising his submission textbook in this match, Orton so far has executed 2 different submission holds being the reverse headlock here and an abdominal stretch earlier.
Still in the reverse headlock position, Orton lifted Angle up and slammed him face first into the mat, the pin was made but referee Earl Hebner got a 2 count. The match continued with this kind of style, until Angle locked in the ankle lock on Randy and was delivering the tork in the ankle with a lot of aggression. After 2 minutes of trying to reach the ropes, Orton finally got there but was pulled away by Angle, refusing to let go of the hold. Somehow, Orton managed to spin out of it and knee Kurt in the face- this led on to the attempted RKO that Kurt blocked. Randy went outside the ring to the apron and began to climb the top turnbuckle, as Orton jumped high into the air, Kurt met him halfway and used an alternative version of the Angle slam that sent the crowd absolutely crazy. The air had been knocked right out of Orton, and Kurt only just barely had the energy to crawl over to him and hook the leg for the 1- 2 -3.
WINNER (and still champion)- Kurt Angle
Lawler- I gotta say JR that maneuver that finished the match was a deserving win!
JR- Orton could have suffered a whiplash on that Angle slam, this main event tonight showing us all, just how athletic and entertaining these superstars are, but if they're willing to put it all on the line for the Intercontinental title, who knows what they'll do for a chance to become WWF Champion!? What a night on Raw, and what a way to end it!!!
(END OF SHOW)
The igloo in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania erupted with fireworks, blasts and pyros as Raw was anticipated to be the night that we found out who the number 1 contender for the WWF Title will be.
