The TV ratings have been higher when Rock has appeared. And his first PPV match was against R-Truth and Miz...enough said. The ratings this year have been terrible and about the same. Maybe Rock gets them a 3.2 when the week before they'd do a 3.1 but it's really been the same the vast majority of the time. It's not like they are pulling in 5's. Some weeks have 3.2 with Rock and some weeks without him they'll still do a 3.2. It really doesn't matter. Why does it matter who he was up against? It was his first match in 7 years. If Rock is really that big of a powerhouse draw then he should have been able to bring them in no matter who he faced, even if it was Hornswoggle. It's still an increase, and considering how low the ratings are on a regular basis these days, they can use all the help they can get. Plus you're also ignoring the press and media attention that comes along with The Rock appearing in the WWE. It matters because nobody wants to spend $70 to watch a tag team match against two mid-carders on a PPV. Of course the opponent matters. Not to mention the real build for The Rock returning to the ring was for his match with Cena at Wrestlemania 28. The entire premises of that match never made any sense anyway.

When ratings fluctuate as they do, you can't point to Rock or anyone else as the person who caused a higher rating. Because as I said some weeks with the Rock (or whoever) score the same ratings as some weeks without him. In the top 10 or 20 highest rated TV segments of 2012 the Rock was not in a single one of them. The single highest rated segment of 2012 was the confrontation between John Cena and the Big Show. That is when he does mention the WWE and that he's wrestling agin. So Rock can only draw when he's facing someone "good"? So then that's not really the Rock drawing then is it? WWE did a better buy for this past Royal Rumble than last year but they were still disappointed in what it was. So maybe Rock is helping buyrates a little but it seems WWE isn't that happy with how little he's helping.

I have absolutely no doubt that a lapsed Attitude era fan would have checked out RAW when Rock first came back and during the build up to recent Manias with Rock in them. I have absolutely no doubt that a lapsed Attitude era fan would be willing to watch Mania with some friends to see Rocky. And lastly, I have absolutely no doubt that the current product, annoying commentary and goofy marketing would turn all lapsed fans away from the idea of watching on a weekly basis, irregardless of whether Rocky appears or not.

WWE needs The Rock. Simple as. No they don't, at all. The WWE needs to push the guys they have and make them legitimate top guys so they don't have to rely on part timers... Exactly.

Agreed and know this is true too.

So maybe Rock is helping buyrates a little but it seems WWE isn't that happy with how little he's helping. TV ratings mean so little to the WWE these days, but fans like to overvalue their worth. They mattered during the Monday Night Wars because they were a true indicator of which company was in the lead, but there's absolutely no competition now, so it's irrelevant. The only people who truly care about Raw's ratings are USA Network and advertisers. Raw may not be as highly-rated as it was in the past, but USA has no problem giving WWE three hours of television time every week and the advertisers certainly aren't shying away either. The true performance indicator is pay-per-view buys, and there is absolutely no question that The Rock has helped immensely in that regard and earned whatever the WWE is paying him based on that alone. Side Note: The WWE continues to promote The Rock because the reported "heat" between the two sides was completely fabricated by the dirt sheets. I can't believe there are still people trying to argue otherwise knowing what we know now.

If he is mad at the WWE and all of the drama going on with him then why is he still being advertised ? Maybe because he's not mad and it was just dirt sheet bs? You win.

They think they do. Ergo, in WWE's mind they do. True, it's somewhat of a self fulfilling prophecy. WWE thinks they need Rock so they make themselves need him.

The Rock helps ratings and he sells merchandise, if used right his appearance can help get more people to watch the younger guys they need to push. The Rock being on WWE TV helps sell his movies. its a win win. However having Rock win the WWE Championship and main event WM29 was too much.

Right on. Couldn't have been said more perfectly. That's pretty much what I did. I got back into it full time when Rock was named host of WM27. Now this summer, with he and Punk possibly gone, I'll miss some ppv's and Raw's here and there. Now keep in mind, you take a guy who grew up in the Attitude Era, who is now a successful adult........I spend a ton of money on this product. And I simply will spend less without these guys around. Simple.

We should open a sub-board for The Rock and Fandango threads; it'd hit 100 pages by now. no just no

Don't we all ready have a long thread about this? One 6 pages and the other 10, do we really need another one? YES!

Of course they are still going to follow through with this Rock game & what not. Whether or not they are on the best terms, the WWE invested money into this thing. It's not like they are just going to scrap it.
