He was fun with Miz and had some pretty good reactions when he broke away.
After that they just had no clue what to do with him.

I remember fighting with people at the time that the only reason Riley was getting a good reaction was because it was a direct result of Miz's heat at the time. I still believe that to be true. HOWEVER, I would have absolutely liked to see him be transitioned from that opportunity. Had WWE used that momentum to put a midcard title on him, it might have led to him building his star more.
I'm not going to say he was main event bound, because he didn't even get to the midcard really, but they had a chance to do something more with him and it didn't work out. I still think people really only popped for his music after awhile. He did have great music. Maybe he'll climb out of the dog house at some point. You never know with guys.

I totally agree with you to a point... the only thing i see different, he still gets great reactions .. all three shows i saw him at, people are still backing him...and other users say the same thing about shows they go to ... its weird...

I completely agree with you here Punk. I think if WWE would have continuously kept momentum behind Alex Riley given the heat that was placed onto him after the Miz backlash, he would have initially had a chance to become a break out innovator with due time. Pushing up to a full-time midcarder would be a major step in the developmental stages for Alex Riley for sure. To be honest, I was behind the guy for most of his time in WWE. I think he just needed to sharpen his mic skills a bit then he would have had a solid run perhaps.

It's been said before that he still gets the big pops he does because he's the first performer to come out at any given live event or tv show.
Well, he didn't come out until like midway through to the house show I went to in January, and still got a pop, in ring too, not just for SAY IT TO MY FACE.

I disagree with the sentiment that people only popped for his music.
Two times he appeared on SmackDown last year (once vs. Cesaro, and once vs. Ziggler), and both times he got a big pop on a jobber entrance.

For a guy who isn't really on TV a lot, he still get great reactions. I remember watching a battle royal on one of the pre-shows and I was amazed that he still got a big pop. He's one of the few wrestlers who I feel should be on TV more cause he is over. I say try and give him a gimmick that works for him as a face and run with it. At least put him on TV even if he jobs out. Better than doing almost nothing or on Superstars.

His Theme music deserved a better push. That's the crime here.

Default CAW. He was the most boring guy I have seen in the WWE for years. Any pops he got were all a result of the heat the Miz had built up over that year. He was fine as a background prop but I'm glad he never became a singles star. Totally this. I think almost anyone could've been on the same position as him and would've gotten a good amount of cheers because people actually hated The Miz. I doubt this had anything to do with Riley's talent.
