Spoilers below from the newest episode in white: Do we think this "hybrid" thing will go anywhere? If so, who do you think it is? Clara. This is now the third time in three seasons she has been/been in a Dalek. And the fact she keeps coming back to life in different times after dying, I've been saying for two years that she's part time lord so...I like my theory.

"BBC Three today announces Class – a new 8×45 Doctor Who spin-off from the acclaimed young adult author Patrick Ness.
Class is a YA series set in contemporary London. Incredible dangers are breaking through the walls of time and space, and with darkness coming, London is unprotected. With all the action, heart and adrenalin of the best YA fiction (Buffy, Hunger Games), this is Coal Hill School and Doctor Who like you’ve never seen it before.
Steven Moffat says: “No one has documented the dark and exhilarating world of the teenager like Patrick Ness, and now we’re bringing his brilliant storytelling into Doctor Who. This is growing up in modern Britain – but with monsters!”
On his first television series, writer Patrick Ness says: “I’m astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself. There’s so much room there for all kinds of amazing stories, and to work with Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin to find a place to tell one of my own has been an absolute joy. I can’t wait for people to meet the heroes of Class, to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your A-Levels.”
Damian Kavanagh, Controller BBC Three, adds: “We’re excited to give Patrick Ness this opportunity to work with us at BBC Three and the Doctor Who family. Patrick understands young audiences and I’m delighted he will use his incredible skills as a storyteller to delight audiences on BBC Three. BBC Three will always innovate and offer opportunities for brilliant new talent.”
Polly Hill, Controller of BBC Drama Commissioning, adds: “I am thrilled that Patrick Ness is writing his first drama series for BBC Three. The combination of Patrick and Steven Moffat is an exciting partnership that has created a brilliant Doctor Who spin-off for our BBC Three audience.”
Class is executive produced by Steven Moffat, Patrick Ness and Brian Minchin. It was commissioned by Damian Kavanagh, Controller of BBC Three, and Polly Hill, Controller of BBC Drama Commissioning.
An 8×45 minute series is produced by BBC Cymru Wales in association with BBC Worldwide for BBC Three.
The series will film in and around Wales from spring 2016 and be on air next year."
Unfortunately the show's creator has ruled Clara out.

Rumour has it that there won't be a full series next year. Ian Levine (look him up if you don't know who he is) has it on good authority that the BBC intend to "rest" the show.

Which means a few television length episodes like Tennant's final season and either a regeneration or the end of the series on 12/13 however you look at it.

Rumour has it that there won't be a full series next year. Ian Levine (look him up if you don't know who he is) has it on good authority that the BBC intend to "rest" the show. While Levine has undoubtedly done a great deal of good for the preservation of Classic Who, I still wouldn't take his "inside information" as fact. As long as 'Class' is good enough, I'd happily take a year of a few, high-quality Doctor Who Specials every few months for 2016. Considering 'Class' is scheduled to air in Autumn 2016, the same time as Doctor Who currently occupies, it does look like we're getting either a split series or a year of specials next year. However Moffat has recently confirmed himself for Series 10, so we'll have to see how it goes, and whether these rumours have any truth to them. Of course as of this year, we're now living in an age where we can actually trust what the newspapers are saying, what with their unusually high accuracy the past year. Which means a few television length episodes like Tennant's final season and either a regeneration or the end of the series on 12/13 however you look at it. The last time Doctor Who was "rested", it was off the air for nearly sixteen years. Ah, but there are a few key differences this time around. At the time the show had declined in quality so much that it deserved to be cancelled. It was seen as a laughing stock, respected by hardly anybody in the BBC. Not to mention Michael Grade. But today, Doctor Who is recognised globally as a huge success, which brings in lots of income for the BBC. There is no way they'd be foolish enough to cancel it again.

He is the modern equivalent of John Nathan-Turner. he refused to give up the reigns in the '80s and killed the show off. I fear that Moffat will do the same.

Actually, he did try to leave in the mid 80s I believe, probably 1987, but the high-ups at the BBC told him that if he left, they'd cancel Doctor Who, rather than find a replacement. So instead he stayed with Doctor Who until the end. At least Doctor Who is still of high quality (and arguably rising), rather than the rapidly declining quality of the mid-late 80s. I think Moffat is still doing a great deal of good for the show, so I don't want him to leave. Perhaps we'll have a new showrunner starting with Series 11, but Moffat is definitely staying for Series 10. I can't think of a single person that immediately comes to mind when I think who the next showrunner could be.

Both underwhelming in their own ways.

Both underwhelming in their own ways. Toby Whithouse is one of those writers who deliver consistently solid stories, but none that I'd consider among the best. I've never heard of Anthony Horowitz, so there is no way that anyone who hasn't yet written for Doctor Who should be given the reins to the show. For example, Matthew Graham did wonderful writing for 'Life On Mars' and 'Ashes To Ashes', but his Doctor Who stories are among the worst (with one being an example of a story that most fans can't stand). Someone can be a good writer, but not a good writer for Doctor Who. However Jamie Mathieson is a new writer who proved a very capable writer for Doctor Who last year, so assuming his story is just as good this year, he could well be a candidate.

'Under The Lake' review: 9/10. It was great. Plenty of wonderful Clara/Doctor interactions. Particularly liked the Clara's end foreshadowing, with The Doctor worried over her recklessness. Honestly, I wouldn't mind Toby Whithouse being the next showrunner. Already two 9/10 episodes and we're only on Episode 3, with many more exciting episodes to come. Series 9 may end up being the best series since Series 5.
But title sequence out of sync AGAIN, after FINALLY being fixed last week. Are the editors actually paying any attention to what they're editing at all? Being an editor as a hobby myself, I understand that it's very easy to miss something, but come on! Out of sync for at least 6 episodes in a row, fixed for one episode, then out of sync again? They really need to pay attention.

The guy who wrote last night's episode needs to take over for Moffat. Like, as soon as possible. FANTASTIC episode. Saw the ending coming when the Doctor agreed to go back to before the flood but, maybe perhaps this could be some weird tie in to Pompeii? Who knows.
Great episode though. Best episode since Asylum of the Dalek or Angels Take Manhattan.

This thread is more dead than the Ponds. Come on people.
New episode tonight. Curious how The Doctor managed to "die" in the end of last week and avoid a regeneration.
