"Doink wasn't just a wacky creation of the WWF think tank that was bestowed upon some unknown schlub; it was a character given to "Maniac" Matt Bourne, a borderline legend of the '80s indie scene"

I'd LOVE a Doink Flashback... I actually voted for him in the original Matty Legends poll too.

Screw Doink, give me a Big Josh complete with an axe I'll be set Hell yes! Doink was terrible just another creation of the horrible "New Generation" era. Big Josh might have been a poor mans Hacksaw Jim Duggan but at least he won titles as Big Josh.

Heel Doink was awesome. Face Doink was kinda lame and just pandered to kids.
Then again, you can say the same thing about heel Dolph and face Dolph. The WWE/F doesn't really change, do they?

Doink is a classic gimmick and if you grew up in that era you should definity want his figure. His heel character was great and I know Mattel could nail it.

The headline itself, "Dead wrestler of the week" is very off putting and made me want to exit the page.. But I read and now I'm glad I did. It was awe inspiring, and put elegantly the way I've always felt about the Doink character and the man behind it. Its sad to me that we've lost such a great hand, but I hope wrestlers today will watch tape and really learn and take in and be apart of what he was trying to do.

Passed on every Jakks Doink and would pass on any Mattel Doink figures. I thought it was a stupid gimmick back then and nothing had changed my mind in the years since. Would I buy a Big Josh? Maybe, but whenever he was announced I always thought back to my childhood in the 70's and Mattel's Big Jim line. As there was a big Josh figure in there as well. But I would buy a Maniac figure.

Its sad to me that we've lost such a great hand, but I hope wrestlers today will watch tape and really learn and take in and be apart of what he was trying to do. the page title does seem trivial. but ya i was caught by how the writer really honors these guys in very special ways. he's a true fan and has an incredibly knowledge of pro wrestling history. i wasnt doink's biggest fan at the time--i had actually kind of stopped watching during his era...but i knew i liked him and there was something about him that was different and interesting and edgy and provocative....and i didnt even know about his amazing indie run. i totally agree that guys today should get to know his work. he was awesome...in the way that guys like jake the snake roberts were awesome--just totally unique, real, honest characters who worked hard (and pretty much did everything too hard). i voted for him in the matty legends poll because i liked doink and thought the figure would be cool. after reading the article and watching more of his matches...a matt bourne doink has maybe jumped to the top of my mattel wishlist because of my great respect for his work.

This is in my top 10 for sure. I really enjoyed the Evil Doink character. Very creepy. This could make for a very colorful figure too.

I'd snap a Mattel Doink up in a second. The original heel Doink really creeped me out as a kid. Such a great character.

I've read all the Dead Wrestler of the week articles and there all really thought provoking, interesting and insightful. The Author really seems to know what he's talking about and really seems to care. Every time I read one I want to constantly watch the wrestlers matches and learn more about there legacy. Makes me want a Doink figure more! My favourite quote: it wasn't, "Hey, look at this beautiful flower, it's a water gun, let's all laugh!" It was, "Hey, look at this beautiful flower, just kidding, you."
