Vince McMahon:
Hello and welcome to Saturday Night Main Event …
Bobby Heenan:
The Billion Dollar Age!
McMahon:
Don’t remind me Brain
Heenan:
That’s our new president McMahon you better be careful
McMahon:
I have a feeling I’ll be fine.
(Ted Dibiase’s music hits and the crowd boo heavily. He enters the arena with Andre the Giant and Virgil. Dibiase takes a microphone whilst Virgil and Andre stand guard.)
Dibiase:
Last week I made WWF history when I became the new president. Ever since then I have been called a cheat, accused of corruption and hailed as the doom of this company. Ladies and Gentlemen, you have been misled. I am the future of this company, under my vision and my guidance I will lead the WWF into heights Gorilla Monsoon never even dreamed about. But, first I must cure a disease. A disease that has held the WWF back for many years now; stunted its growth and monopolised its top prize. Ladies and Gentleman, for the WWF to grow we must first kill Hulkamania.
(Crowd Erupts into jeers and boos)
Dibiase:
My friends, you have been brainwashed. You are deprived of healthy competition every single week as the powers that be protect Hogan and keep that title belt off more deserving superstars and at the Royal Rumble I will put an end to this real corruption once and for …
(Real American blasts through the speakers as the crowd erupt into an earth-shattering pop. Hulk Hogan enters with a microphone and stands at the top of the ramp.)
Hulk:
Hulkamaniacs? Am I a disease?
(Crowd boo and begin a Hogan rules chant.)
You hear these Hulkamaniacs brother? You want WWF to grow? There’s only one way that happens Dibiase and that’s if these guys out in the stands want it to. You can beat me, put bounties on my head and try and take my title but as long as the World Wrestling Federation comes in front of all these Hulkamaniacs, Hulkamania will never die brother.
Dibiase:
If you even make it to the Rumble I’ll give 100,000 pounds to the Bushwhackers. Hell everyone has a price maybe the Bushwhackers will be the ones to take you out. But tonight you’re in the main event, Hulk Hogan … vs. Andre the Giant!
(Dibiase’s music hits to end the promo as Hogan is telling Dibiase and his cronies to bring it on.)
McMahon:
This situation is only gonna get worse
Heenan:
Your right McMahon, that bounty is hanging over Hogan’s head and just like Dibiase says everyone has a price.
McMahon:
I hope you’re wrong. Well let’s get down to ringside Brain. We’ve got the first of our last two first round matches for the tag team titles.
The Hart Foundation vs. The Bushwhackers.
The Hart Foundation are out first led by Jimmy Hart. The crowd boo moderately as Jimmy gets the most heat. Next out are the Bushwhackers to a pretty decent pop. The match begins with Bret Hart and Bushwhacker Luke. Luke walks round the ring pumping his arms for a few seconds to get the crowd cheering and Bret blindsides him with a clothesline. He goes to apply the sharpshooter straight away but Luke easily kicks him off and makes it back to his feet. Luke hits a few right hands on Hart before Bret blocks and rakes his eyes. Bret slams Luke’s head into his turnbuckle and tags in Neidhart. Jim hits several double axehandles to Luke’s spine and grounds him. Anvil throws Luke over the top rope and taunts the crowd. Butch tries to get in the ring but ends up just distracting the referee whilst Bret rams Luke into the ring post, he rolls Luke into the ring and Anvil goes for the cover but only gets a 2 count. Jim tags Bret who hits an elbow drop from the second rope and pins again for a 2 count. Bret lifts Luke’s leg and hits a kick to the gut. He lifts Luke up and whips him to the ropes hitting an inverted atomic drop followed by a short arm clothesline. Jimmy Hart gets on the apron and distracts the referee so that Anvil can come in and double team Luke. Butch drags Jimmy off the apron and begins to start trying to eat his head but Anvil comes to the rescue and whips Butch into the barricade. Meanwhile in the ring Luke reverses a right hand from Bret and hits a head-butt grounding Bret. He goes to make the tag but Butch is still down after the assault from Neidhart. Luke leans over the rope to check on Butch and Bret rolls him up from behind for the 1.2.3!
Winners: The Hart Foundation.
McMahon:
We got 3 out of 4 teams through Brain, only one more left.
Heenan:
Hart Foundation! That’s my pick.
McMahon:
What about the Nasty Boys?
Heenan:
They’re my pick too McMahon!
(A promo video shows hyping up the Royal Rumble in three weeks.)
McMahon:
I can’t wait for that … You got a pick yet Brain?
Heenan:
Course I have McMahon but I’m not giving that away just yet.
McMahon:
Well Alfred Hayes is backstage with one of the 30 men who will enter the rumble.
(Cameras cut backstage where Alfred Hayes is with Hacksaw Jim Duggan)
Hayes:
Thank you Vince and I’m here with the first ever winner of the Royal Rumble, Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Hacksaw, you’ve won the rumble before have you got the edge in 3 weeks?
Duggan:
HO! Alfred, I’m the only man entering the rumble that knows what it takes to win it. I outlasted nineteen other guys in 85’ and I can outlast ten more this year and win my first WWF title, HO!
Hayes:
And if you did get to Wrestlemania who would you be hoping to fight for the title, Hogan or Dibiase?
Duggan:
You know what it doesn’t matter to me Alfred, I’m good friends with Hulk and It’d be great to headline Wrestlemania with him and Dibiase might have his billion dollar corporation behind him but I’ve got the whole of the United States behind me … and my 2 by 4 … HO!
Hayes:
Let’s go back to ringside.
Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake vs. Virgil
Virgil is out first, unsurprisingly to a huge amount of boos. He is accompanied by the I.C champion and Beefcake’s opponent for the Royal Rumble “The Model” Rick Martel.
McMahon:
What’s Martel doing out here? He’s not Virgil’s manager!
Heenan:
He’s scouting his competition McMahon, like any great champion would.
McMahon:
As long as that’s all he’s doing Brain.
Brutus is out next to a large cheer. He chases Martel round the outside of the ring with his hair clippers before placing them down in the corner of the ring and focusing his attention on Virgil. The bell rings and this one is underway. Beefcake and Virgil tie up and Brutus hits a standard front slam on Virgil before taunting to the crowd. Virgil gets up and they tie up again, only for Brutus to hit another front slam and again taunt to the crowd. Virgil gets up a little more gingerly and offers Brutus a test of strength. As Brutus goes to link hands with Virgil, Virgil kicks him in the gut and follows up with an elbow the back of the head. He tosses Brutus outside the ring and distracts the referee whilst Martel clotheslines him on the outside before rolling Beefcake back into the ring. Virgil hits a running dropkick to Beefcake before going for a pin but only gets a 1. Virgil picks up Brutus and sets up for a suplex, Brutus blocks it and hits a suplex on Virgil. He goes for the cover but gets a 2 count. They both get to their feet and Brutus applies an armlock to Virgil, he chain wrestles Virgil into position for a back suplex and hits it for another 2 count. Brutus applies a reverse chinlock on Virgil and wears him down for a few minutes. Virgil makes his way to his knees and then his feet. He elbows Brutus in the ribs a few times and Brutus releases the hold. Virgil hits a standing dropkick on Beefcake and goes for the cover, 1.2 … just kicked out. Virgil gets to his feet and clotheslines Brutus over the top rope. Martel goes to hit Beefcake with a right hand but he blocks it and applies the sleeper to the model outside of the ring. Virgil attacks Brutus from behind and whips him into the ring post. Virgil throws Beefcake in the ring for another 2 count. Virgil goes to the top rope, he goes for a moonsault but Beefcake moves out of the way. Both men groggily get to their feet; Beefcake applies the sleeper to Virgil. Virgil tries to fight him off but falls to his knees, the ref drops Virgil’s hand once, twice and then doesn’t try to drop it a third time. Brutus breaks the hold to question the referee; which is Danny Davis; Martel comes in and hits Beefcake with his title belt. Virgil pins him and Davis counts the quick 1.2.3
Winner: Virgil.
McMahon:
What the hell was that? Brutus had this match won!
Heenan:
Haha! It looks like Danny Davis is the newest member of the Billion Dollar Corporation.
McMahon:
You’ve got to be kidding me, he’s a damn official!
Heenan:
Everyone has a price McMahon, I told you!
McMahon:
Damn it! Well next up we have the British Bulldog against King Kong Bundy and hopefully they’ll be no more drama Brain.
Heenan:
I wouldn’t bet on it! This is the Billion Dollar Age
The British Bulldog vs. King Kong Bundy
King Kong Bundy is out first to some timid boos, he isn’t get much heat at the minute. British Bulldogs music hits and the crowd cheer loudly; he is a huge fan favourite. Bulldog carries the British flag with him and places it on top of the turnbuckle, the bell rings. Bulldog and Bundy engage in a test of strength, Bundy starts to get the upper hand at first but Bulldog starts to reverse and get the edge. Bundy head-butts him and Bulldog breaks his grip. Bundy hits an overhand right and Bulldog returns with a right of his own. They trade blows before Bulldog again gets the upper hand and hits 3 consecutive right hands before whipping Bundy into the corner. He tries to follow up with a clothesline but Bundy moves out of the way. King Kong follows up with a clothesline and knocks Bulldog down for the first time. He follows it with a diving head-butt and goes for the cover but Bulldog kicks out after a count of 1. King Kong Bundy stands on Bulldog’s chest before picking him up and then hitting a front slam. Bundy starts to choke Bulldog and doesn’t break the count until just before 5, he repeats this again. The referee Dave Hebner reprimands Bundy. King Kong picks up Bulldog who hits a few right hands to Bundy’s stomach, Bulldog gets upright again and hits a running shoulder block of the ropes and Bundy stumbles. He hits another running shoulder block from the other side as Bundy wobbles more. Bulldog then hits a flying clothesline and Bundy finally goes down. Bulldog picks him up and hits a front slam for the 2 count. Bulldog signals for the powerslam, he tries to get Bundy on his shoulder but can’t quite do it and Bundy hits a double axehandle. Bundy runs off the ropes but Bulldog uses Bundy’s momentum to reverse and gets him up for the powerslam … he hits it! 1 …2 …3!
Winner: The British Bulldog
McMahon:
A great performance from the Bulldog there, his strength is going to be a key factor in the Royal Rumble.
Heenan:
He doesn’t stand a chance McMahon.
McMahon:
We’ll see about that Brain, but for now Alfred Hayes is backstage with our President.
(Cameras cut backstage to Lord Alfred Hayes and Ted Dibiase.)
Hayes:
Ted Dibiase, can you explain what we saw tonight in the ring with referee Danny Davis?
Dibiase:
It’s simple Alfred, Davis knows who he works for and I made it clear that Virgil was going to be the winner of that match.
Hayes:
How can you talk about fair competition when you have the referees in your pocket?
Dibiase:
You have to fight with fire with fire Hayes and I will fight anyone who refuses to respect me as their president.
Hayes:
Back to ringside.
Tatanka vs. Dino Bravo
Dino Bravo comes out to medium boos and a few quiet cheers of respect for his wrestling skills. Tatanka is out to good cheers as he runs down the ramp and around the ring before getting in.
The bell rings and Dino goes behind for a waistlock and then takes down Tatanka, keeping his hands clenched for a grounded waistlock. He swings round to Tatanka’s head and applies a front facelock. Tatanka begins to climb to his feet but Dino hits a neckbreaker for a 1 count. Dino goes back to the front facelock before breaking it to hit a knee strike to the face of Tatanka. Dino taunts the crowd and Tatanka slowly starts to stand up. Dino Bravo hits an elbow strike and throws Tatanka into the corner. He hits a few chops as the crowd “woo.” Tatanka reverses and throws Bravo into the corner, Tatanka hits some knife edged chops of his own before whipping Bravo into the opposite turnbuckle. Bravo staggers around and Tatanka grounds him with a running tomahawk chop. He goes for the cover and gets a close 2 count. Tatanka picks up Bravo and sets him up for a Samoan drop but Dino reverses into a roll up for another close call. Both men get up and go for the attack but Dino hits a drop toe hold. He goes to Tatanka’s legs and applies an arrow lock. Tatanka outstretches his arms and eventually reaches the ropes. Dino drops his knee into the small of Tatanka’s back. Dino goes to pick Tatanka up but Tatanka shoves Dino creating space for Tatanka to hit a one legged dropkick. Dino quickly gets up and is knocked back down again with open handed strikes a few times in succession. Tatanka signals for a Samoan drop but suddenly a strange green smoke starts oozing out from the under the ring. Tatanka becomes dazed and drops to his knees, the arena lights dim and lightning strikes the ring. The green smoke completely engulfs Tatanka and when it clears he is unconscious and the voodoo stick of Papa Shango is laid across his chest.
No Contest.
Heenan:
What the hell was that McMahon?
McMahon:
I have no idea but whatever it was it creeped me out.
Heenan:
Creeped you out! I think I need new pants.
McMahon:
Well that stick looked like the one that Papa Shango carries around with him but I didn’t see Shango near the ring or even in the arena tonight. It’s very strange.
Heenan:
I don’t like it, I don’t like it all McMahon
McMahon:
Maybe you should go tell your friend the President. Well we’re gonna try to move on from that as next up we’ve got the final first round match in our tag team tournament.
Demolition vs. Natural Disasters.
The Natural Disasters; Earthquake and Typhoon; make their way out first to boos. Demolition are next out to pretty heavy cheers. Demolition don’t wait for the bell and immediately start the double team. They double clothesline Earthquake over the top rope and then start throwing rights and lefts beating typhoon into the corner. They then take it in turns to hit a running splash on Typhoon before hitting a double clothesline and knocking him to the ground. Smash leaves the ring so Ax and Typhoon are the legal men. Ax starts dropping axehandles onto the back of Typhoon every time he tries to stand to keep him grounded. Ax sits on top of Typhoon and goes for a chinlock but Typhoons stands up with Ax on his back and then falls down flattening Ax. Typhoon makes the tag to Earthquake. Earthquake splashes down on Ax for the close 2 count. He grabs Ax by the hair and hits a huge head-butt. Earthquake puts Ax’s head between his legs as if he was going to hit a powerbomb but just jumps sending Ax crashing back to the canvas. Earthquake tags Typhoons who hits an elbow drop again for the 2 count. Smash tries to storm the ring but the referee stops him allowing Typhoon to throw Ax into the corner where Earthquake chokes him with the tag rope. Typhoon hits a splash to Ax in the corner and goes for the cover but Smash runs in and breaks it up. Typhoon tags in Earthquake. Earthquake picks up Ax but Ax hits a few clubbing blows into Earthquakes stomach. Earthquake scoops Ax up into a bearhug. Ax starts to fade and the referee begins the arm drop routine. His arm drops once, twice, and at the last minute Ax stops him arm dropping. He begins to club Earthquake around the head with both arms until eventually Earthquake breaks the hold. Ax runs off the ropes and ducks an attempted clothesline from Earthquake before hitting a flying shoulder block knocking Earthquake off his feet. Both men crawl to their corners and make a tag at the same time. Smash hits several double handed strikes to Typhoon and elbows Earthquake off the apron. Ax slides a steel chair into the ring before running to the other side and attacking Earthquake to keep the referees attention distracted. Smash asks the crowd if they want him to use the chair and they cheer so he hits Typhoon in the head with the chair and slides it back out of the ring. The ref turns around to see Smash make the cover for the 1..2..3!
Winners: Demolition.
Heenan:
They cheated McMahon!
McMahon:
They did Brain, you’re absolutely right. But when have you ever been about playing fair. Demolition gave the crowd what they wanted.
Heenan:
Why? They’re idiots!
McMahon:
Will you stop it! Anyway we now have our semi-final matches which will start next week. Demolition face the Nasty Boys and The Hart Foundation take on The Legion of Doom.
Heenan:
I pick the Nasty Boys McMahon.
McMahon:
Bold words there from the Brain, but now let’s go backstage once more to Alfred Hayes who is with Mr Perfect.
(Cameras cut to Hayes who is with Mr Perfect.)
Hayes:
Mr Perfect, at the Royal Rumble you will face the man who you attacked for no reason last week, The Macho Man Randy Savage.
Perfect:
Let me say first Hayes, I didn’t attack Savage for no reason, he deserved it. Savage walks about like he owns this place, like he’s at the top of the food chain and somebody had to knock him off that pedestal. What has Savage got nothing! At the Rumble I’ll give him something, I’ll give him the worst beating of his life and it will be Perfect.
Hayes:
Some people may disagree with you and say that The Macho Man does have something, or rather someone with Miss Elizabeth.
Perfect:
Does he Hayes? You’re an intelligent man Alfred, do you really think that Elizabeth spends her every night with an idiot like Savage. I guarantee that by the time the rumble comes around she will have had a perfect kind of love if you catch my …
(Macho Man comes out of nowhere with a flying right hand to Perfect knocking him off his feet. Macho hits a few right hands to Perfect before Perfect pushes him off and gets to his feet. Macho lunges again but Perfect dodges and throws Macho into the wall behind him. Perfect drags Macho to an unprotected bit of hard flooring and hits the Perfect Plex on Macho Man leaving him down backstage.)
Heenan:
Damn that idiot Savage McMahon. Perfect was just doing an interview, he had no reason to attack him and he got what he deserved.
McMahon:
He was bad mouthing Macho and Elizabeth Brain and Randy had enough.
Heenan:
You are the most biased commentator I know McMahon.
McMahon:
Oh please. Next up is our penultimate match.
Heenan:
Our what?
McMahon:
Second to last Brain
Heenan:
I know what it means McMahon!
Nikolai Volkoff vs. Blue Blazer
Volkoff comes out to some timid boos, he is accompanied by Iron Sheik. Blue Blazer comes out to a pretty modest pop; he is starting to get over with the fans. Volkoff offers his hand for a test of strength but Blazer hits a standing dropkick instead to loud cheers. Blazer hits an armdrag and follows up with a few sidekicks. Blazer goes for a running cross body but Volkoff catches him and hits a fall away slam. Blazer rolls out of the ring due to the impact of the slam. Iron Sheik hits a running knee to the stomach of Blazer as he’s getting to his feet. Volkoff continues to distract the referee and Sheik slams Blazer on the outside and then walks away. Volkoff stands off the referee who begins to count. The ref gets to a 9 count before Blue Blazer rolls in the ring. Volkoff kicks Blazer in the stomach who rolls around the canvas clearly in a lot of pain. Volkoff picks Blazer up and applies an abdominal stretch. The ref asks Blazer if he wants to quit but he screams no. Blazer reverses and manages to hip toss Volkoff. Blazer runs at the ropes and hits a springboard back elbow to Volkoff. He goes for the pin and gets 1..2.. but Sheik gets on the apron and breaks the refs count. Blazer dropkicks Sheik off of the apron and he flies into the barricade. Volkoff goes for a clothesline but Blazer ducks and hits a stunning headscissor takedown from nowhere. Blazer signals to the top before climbing up to the top turnbuckle and hitting a 360 moonsault to a huge pop for the 1…2…3.
Winner: Blue Blazer
McMahon:
Blue Blazer does it again! This kid is impressive Brain, and so unique.
Heenan:
I don’t care McMahon! You know what’s next? The continued death of Hulkamania. The Billion Dollar Corporation is going to make it nice and slow.
McMahon:
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt over the years Brain, it’s you never count of Hulk Hogan.
Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant.
Andre is out first to Dibiase’s theme tune. He is accompanied by Virgil and “The Model” Rick Martel. The referee is Danny Davis.
McMahon:
That damn Davis is the referee!
Heenan:
Still counting on Hogan?
Real American hits and the crowd explode. Hogan comes out and taunts the crowd at the top of the ramp for a few moments before heading down to the ring. Before Hogan even gets to Andre, he is jumped by Virgil and Martel. They both hit clobbering blows to his head and back. Andre comes out of the ring and Virgil and Martel hold Hogan for Andre to hit a big boot. Andre then takes off the top of the steel stairs exposing the base of the stairs. He lifts Hogan up with both hands by his neck and drops him on the stairs. All 3 of Dibiase’s men roll Hogan into the ring and Andre just puts his foot across Hulk’s chest for 1…2.. KICK OUT! Hogan kicks out and the crowd goes wild. Hogan throws a few right hands at Andre but his momentum is stopped when Andre hits a knee to the gut. Andre chokes Hogan out with his foot and Davis doesn’t even bother to start a 5 count. Hogan is left on the canvas as Andre goes to the turnbuckle and takes off the pad exposing the actual buckle. Andre slams Hogan’s head into the buckle 3 times. Hogan is busted wide open. Andre goes for the cover 1…2..ANOTHER KICK OUT! The crowd are cheering Hogan on wildly but he is weak and beaten up. Virgil and Martel enter the ring and start to stomp Hogan. Martel goes out to get a steel chair whilst Andre drops a leg across Hogan’s neck. The Model comes back in with a chair and hands it to Andre. Virgil and Martel hold Hogan and Andre swings the chair. However, Hogan moves and Andre takes out Martel by accident, Hogan boots the chair back into Andre’s face. Virgil throws a right hand but Hogan blocks it and points at Virgil, he whips Virgil into the ropes and hits a big boot and follows up with a leg drop. Andre comes back swinging the chair but Hogan ducks and kicks Andre in the gut. Andre drops the chair and Hogan picks it up as the crowds roars become deafening. Hogan hits Andre in the head with the chair before following up with his signature leg drop. He covers Andre but Davis refuses to count. Hogan stands up and grabs Davis by the scruff of his shirt. Whilst Hogan’s attention is on Davis, Dibiase runs down to the ring. As Hogan turns around Dibiase hits him with the Million Dollar belt. Andre then hits Hogan’s own leg drop and covers. Davis gives a quick 1.2.3.
Winner: Andre the Giant.
McMahon:
This is ridiculous. It was 5 on 1 out there and Hogan still had this won.
Heenan:
Like I said McMahon, the death of Hulkamania.
McMahon:
Thanks for joining us folks and we hope to see you next week on Saturday Night’s Main Event!
