Why is WWE so afraid of turning John Cena heel? I get it he's the face of the company but I thought Vince McMahon was about taking chances?

I think its Cena who doesn't want to turn heel because of the whole make-a-wish and being the GUY kids look up to.
In Bob Backlund's HOF speech he mentioned how WWE wanted him to turn heel in the 80s but he refused many times because he wanted to be the role model for kids. So its possible Cena wanted to be the same.

I doubt Cena will ever turn heel again to be honest.. I believe WWE is afraid to lose the Merchandise sales.

Oh boy, more Cena heel talks.
He will not turn heel anytime soon because he is easily the most marketable superstar in the WWE today. The kids love him and he is, like said in other posts, a role model to them. There's no one to step up and take the kid friendly face role now either, Punk isn't the kid-friendly guy, Bryan isn't seen as it by WWE yet, and Sheamus while being pushed still is being revolted against by the fans, and with an Orton heel turn all but done, Cena will be staying as top face for a few more years at least.

A lot of people liken it to hogan in that it can be the "biggest heel turn ever if it happens", but in reality, they don't need to do it b/c there's no other company to even compete with...it sucks that he won't turn heel though, I mean austin was the face and the big money guy and he turned heel, well kind of...it can happen, it just won't anytime soon

It's not a risk. It's just a STUPID business decision.

Look at like this, Stone Cold Steve Austin turned heel and the ratings plummeting and ever since have been on a descent. John Cena is their major star and they've been burnt by the Austin turn, they in turn don't want it to repeat. As a guy who pushes more merchandise amongst others things, it's a major issue.
They had the chance to make Punk a mega-star who they could of relied on but they've seriously hurt his appeal. So because of that, I don't think you will ever see a John Cena heel turn unless Vince feels the time is right.

There may be a time in the future where it's plausible, but right now, no way. Don't turn him for the sake of turning him. The make a wish thing & merchandise are big reasons. I don't mind Cena, I just wish they'd tweak his character a bit to take things a little more seriously. Plus I think WWE is finally starting to hit their groove with the faces and heels. I really like the face/heel ratio right now in WWE and who is what and once Orton turns, it will be perfect.
Faces Cena, Punk, Bryan, Sheamus, Ziggler, Rhodes, Henry, Miz, Kane, RVD, Christian, The Usos, Kofi
Heels Orton, Del Rio, Ryback, Big Show, Sandow, Cesaro, Sheild, Wyatts, Axel, Lesnar, Fandango, Swagger, Barrett
I actually love this mix and the match ups it could bring.

They don't turn Cena heel because he is a real life super hero to kids. WWE is portraying a family friendly PG product, and John Cena is the perfect face for that product. He's personable, he has main stream appeal, and he is a character that parents feel safe allowing their kids to watch battle the forces of evil.
WWE also knows that kids are drawn to John Cena, and they will get their parents to buy all of his merchandise and tickets to events, probably PPV's....he's a huge draw. If they turn Cena heel, they lose all the money Cena is drawing from kids, because Sheamus is the next cheesiest babyface they have after Cena, and he's not even in the same ballpark as John Cena in terms of what he draws.
WWE isn't stupid enough to lose their cash cow by turning Cena heel to make the internet marks happy...because at the end of the day, the people bitching that Cena should turn heel aren't buying his products, are probably streaming the PPV's anyway, and if they do put ANY money toward WWE it isn't even anywhere CLOSE to what a parent spends on WWE for a kid who is a John Cena fan.
WWE isn't going to turn Cena heel until he gets to the point where Hogan was in WCW in 1995-1996 where NOBODY liked him. Adults hated him, the kids were losing interest,...but he was being forced on everyone like we were supposed to believe that Hulkamania was still in the glory days. Hogan saw that the business was changing and edgy more serious characters that had heel like tendencies were the way the business was going...so he jumped on the nWo money train, and the rest is history.
So until the kids turn on Cena and stop having mommy and daddy buy his stuff...he's staying babyface and he's staying the focal point of the ENTIRE COMPANY.
Like Bret Hart said, WWE is smart and these superstars are like circus animals to Vince McMahon. You take a guy who's making you money and God damnit you squeeze every dime you can out of that guy until he's no longer useful to you, and then you toss him aside and replace him with the next cash cow.

Because believe it or not. The "good guy" John Cena brings A LOT of happiness to a lot of children, who spend money buying his merchandise. And even more happiness to dying children.

Hogan turned heel and it was success :/ True. But it was all about timing. By that point Hogan wasn't selling much merch, everybody was sick of him and it fit perfectly into a storyline. But on the same token Austin turned heel and it was complete flop.
