Anyone see/going see it? I saw it yesterday. I was kind of confused since I didnt see the first one. It was one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. People screeming, and cheering. It got a great reaction out of the people in the movie theatre, and I wi go for the 3rd. What are your thoughts?

I loved the first Insidious and though Chapter 2 was awesome. I went opening night and had a HORRIBLE audience, tons of kids who had no idea how to act in public. There was about 4 kids in front of me and about 7 in back of me who were all in one group, but couldn't get enough seats side by side. The ones in front of me kept turning around and talking OVER my row to their friends behind us. They kept going back in forth in spanish, laughing loudly and talking loudly, for about 20 minutes into the move. Finally a women next to me yelled "WOULD YOU SHUT THE UP ALREADY" and it was quite for the rest of the show. But yeah, I thought the story in the second one was great, I loved how it back tracked to the first one. The ending was the best, but I don't want to spoil anything for anyone.

I hold the first one in pretty high regard, despite feeling like it sort of fell apart in the third act. It takes a lot for me to enjoy a horror movie these days, let alone a PG-13 one, so for me to have even loved that much of the original is saying a lot.
I thought the sequel was unnecessary, but I felt the need to see it regardless. I was impressed with the way it was tied back so tightly to the first one. It's obvious this was just a cash grab based on the success of the first, so they could have really phoned it in, written off the first entirely and just gone for something really cheap and hokey. They didn't, which is great.
I still had a lot of problems with it, though. I thought it relied too heavily on jump scares, which is a huge problem in modern horror. I'm all about the visceral stuff, and when they did that, they did it well. Example below...
(SPOILER!) When Renai is alone in the house toward the beginning of the film, and she's on the phone, she walks down the hallway and we get a quick shot of Mother sitting in the corner of the room in a chair. I loved that. No jumpy music, no purposeful jump, just an unsettling feeling of dread. In fact, that entire scene, up until the moment she shows up in Renai's face and smacks her, was fantastic. (END SPOILER)
Patrick Wilson was also cringe-worthy at times, which is unfortunate, because both I think both he and Rose Byrne are great.
The crowd in my theater was awful too. I love it when people get into horror movies and jump and scream at the appropriate times, it makes it fun, but there were a ton of kids who couldn't settle down after a scare and would giggle and laugh and talk about how scared they were almost constantly.

I really didn't enjoy the first one, so I think I'll hold off on this one.

*possible spoiler!!*
the ending had me really eager for infact a third one! does anyone believe that...(white text) elise has stumbled upon the red-faced demon from the first movie, in the ending of the 2nd movie when confronting the girl in the wheel chair? I suggest this because of the creeking noise that was made, because wasnt that the demon's "specific sound" in the first movie?

The third film has been officially confirmed after the monster opening this one had. Leigh Whannall will return as the writer, but James Wan has not yet agreed to direct. From what I've heard, he has very minimal interest.

I had very similar things happen when I saw it last night, kids in their mid teens who couldn't sit together running around the entire time or talking. Annoying and also confusing to me. Oh well. As for the film, it was good, very very intense throughout, even moreso than the first in my oppinion although overall the first movie was scarier and better. This one from the get go was extremely tense though and had me on the edge of my seat. However, this movie was also extremely cheesy at times and I just don't feel enough of a connection to the characters to appreciate the 'happy scenes' (I wont spoil anything). I just wanted the crap scared out of me. It's not quite as good as the first movie, but it's very solid and worth a watch. As for the third (SPOILERS) I definitely think the red demon is going to be back, that's what I gathered from the ending of Chapter 2.

I went to go see it last weekend and it was not only packed with a bunch of teens, but they also sold out. I went to a different theater and had a horrible crowd who wouldn't shut up and laugh during the suspense scenes, because they were scared. I ended up leaving during the first 20 minutes and complain to one of the employees( I wasn't an ass I just ask if I can get a refund) and got a free movie ticket. I came back on a Sunday and the crowd was okay but they weren't bad. The movie was great and had a great storyline to it, especially how it went back to some of the scenes from the first movie. This is most likely the best horror movie I've seen in a long time considering I'm a horror movie fan and most movies these days are too predictable. I hate the fact that teens don't like horror movies, because it wasn't scary. That's just one of the dumbest things I ever heard someone say.

One more thing anybody looking forward for "Carrie"? I can't wait to watch that movie and knowing that it's Rated R means no teenagers being annoying.

I'm a huge fan of the first Insidious and thought Chapter 2 was great. Yes it takes on a slightly more light tone but that doesn't hurt the movie at all. Good pace and it was cool to see all the connections to the original movie. This was far, far better than the crappy and highly overrated Conjuring.
I'm a huge horror fan and have been disappointed by the lack of creativity in the horror genre over the last 15-20 years. I feel that new and original horror movies have been few and far between. Movies like the Blair Which, 28 Days Later, Saw (the first one), and Insidious did their own creative twists on the horror theme and helped refresh the genre. They don't settle for a lot of crappy jump scares and actually build suspense and atmosphere. Movies like Cloverfield, Mama, The Conjuring, and many others that get so much media hype are uncreative movies that rely too heavily on jump scares and CGI while neglecting to build any suspense. The many remakes of classic horror films like Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Psycho, and others basically s*** on the originals that worked so well and do everything to ruin these ideas (ex: Rob Zombie giving Michael Myers a backstory and making him a redneck). Just my two cents.

Wow I loved the movie I thought it was better than the first. I do have two questions though
SPOILER ALERT
1. So who was inside the dad was it Chris or the mom? I was legit confused about that I'm sure it was Chris but te ending with the mom getting beat up made me think it might have been her.
2. Was the girl in the wheelchair involved at all in te movie? Or did she just get introduced at the end? am wondering since they said that she had an incident at the hospital

I don't recall the wheelchair girl being involved. I think she's just a new character, possibly adding a new family.

It was a quick shot but I think the girl in the wheelchair was the girl Dalton saw run out of his closet yelling for help before he was surrounded by dead spirits. They looked very similar but I'd need to see it again to be sure.

If it is the same girl it would make sense considering that girl running out of Dalton's closet was pretty random.
