When Hogan returned at WM18 he was NWO, so the theme made sense. But he turned face immediately after. When he went back to the red and yellow he came out to Jimi Hendrix. And then I believe in late 03 they finally gave him back his Real American theme. Why the Hendrix theme and why did it take so long for his original music to return?

Maybe the WWE paid the rights to use it for a certain amount of time and they wanted to fulfill that contract and use it?? That's my only theory on that.

Why not Hendrix? He was 'Mr. America' so he had 'Full America Man!' theme.

I'm not saying I didn't like it, just something I was thinking about the other day. The iconic "Real American" theme would have made the return complete.

I remember Hogan using "Voodoo Child" in WCW during his nWo run. I loved that entrance with him playing air guitar on the title. Too awesome!
Hogan is a master negotiator so maybe he was able to convince McMahon to pay the licensing fee (which I'm sure wasn't cheap) to use that song. "Real American" will always be synonymous with Hulk, but I had no problem with him entering to Hendrix.

I think the "Real American" song was cheesy and outdated during his final run in 1993 much less 2002.
Plus WWF had used it as a joke theme for Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco only a couple years earlier.

When Hulk Hogan came back in 2002, I am pretty sure he wanted to use "Voodoo Child" by Jimi Hendrix over "Real American" by Rick Derringer. When Hogan came back as Mr. America to his various appearances in 2005-2007, he used "Real American" by Rick Derringer.

Real American is the greatest entrance theme ever, in my opinion. I agree that he should have had it in 02. I remember an article about this in an old Torch from back in 02 that they purchased the rights to the song for a year. If you think back, it was in video games and DVDs from March 02 - March 03. Anything released afterwards was edited. If he was Hollywood Hogan, Voodoo Child was an awesome theme, but Real American is the ultimate hero theme.

I know I heard this somewhere but I don't remember exactly where (Maybe one of Hogans interviews). But the reason he came back with Voodo Child was because he was still "Hollywood Hogan" during his 2002 run. When he was inducted into the Hall of Fame and thereafter he always would come out as Hulk Hogan and use Real American. Hollywood Hogan is like a separate character if that makes sense and his song in WCW was Voodo Child. He even had the black beard if you think about it which isn't trademark to Hulk Hogan...Its Hollywood Hogan of the nWo that made that famous. Its like 2 separate people which...you know haha, Is odd.

I thought "Voodo Child" was fine to use in 2002/3. "Real American" worked in the 80s but was far outdated by the time Hogan returned in 2002. Plus Patterson and Bisco used it as a joke theme in the late 90s. Hogan using "Real American" for his apperances after 2003 was fine because it was for nostolgic purposes. Using "Voodo Child" fit the Hollywood character that he was still using in 2002/3.

Using "Voodo Child" fit the Hollywood character that he was still using in 2002/3. The same applies to when Hogan used "American Made" in WCW. Of which was done because WCW couldn't use "Real American" by Rick Derringer as the WWF purchased the rights to it in 1993. Hogan didn't begin using "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" on the March 18th, 2002 edition of RAW. When Hogan became Mr. America in 2003, it made sense to revert back to "Real American." Sidenote - The WWE owns the rights to "Rockhouse" now. This is why its being featured in WWE 2k14 and has not been dubbed over on home videos and Classics on Demand.
