As a classic collector, I collect for nostalgic reasons, as I like to revisit my childhood by collecting and customizing the colorful characters of my youth, however I struggle to understand why many here collect the current product so diligently, especially since it is not done for nostalgia, I actually consider it to be a form of hoarding.
I understand as collectors and consumers we all have the right to simply buy what we want, or what we like, but I'd enjoy some feedback from the current product collectors here.

I'm 15 and I collect both so collecting flashbacks is something I like because it's guys I watch old matches of with dad. I got into collecting to bond with my younger cousin. I have a blast looking for hard to find guys such as TRU D-Bry or a divas figure because it's fun. I use my figures as a photographs almost as a way to remember something. Like my WM29 figures make me think back to that day and how awesome it was. I even remember the trips I went on to get them.
I guess I went a little off topic and I apologize. At first I took some offense to your post but I re read it and me and you aren't so different. You collect guys from your childhood and it brings you back just as today's guys bring me back.

I collect figure to play with, if I could be a hoarder of these things, admittedly I would!
I play figures I reanact the current WWE, with some Legends, like E23 Undertaker and L2 Iron Sheik.
I just find it fun to be able to have a personalised WWE whenever I want!

Well, my collection up until the Attitude Era was sort of the same reason as yours. I picked the up for the fond memories they bring back of watching wrestling with my father. But he passed before the Attitude era so anything from then - present is guys I actually enjoyed or still enjoy warning them wrestle. But the modern guys I do buy now are the same reason as above. In about 10 years or so they'll fit into my Legends collection. lol
But I am sure many of the collectors who collect all the modern guys now are teens/kids who do it for the same reason you do because these are they guys they are growing up with. So a few years from now who knows if there will be a wrestling figure line, but if nothing else they'll have these figures to reminisce about.

I actually consider it to be a form of hoarding. It is a form of hoarding. But it has another name too: Collecting. And that's the case whether it's wrestlers from the 1980s or 2013. No matter if it's Hulk Hogan or John Cena, we buy/make/customise dolls of wrestlers because we enjoy buying/making/customising dolls of wrestlers.

I never meant to collect as many of the current roster guys as I do. Just ones I liked or was a fan of. But they are what's out there. They are predominantly available. Plus, they're beautiful figures. While I'm happy with the flashbacks line and I don't wanna beat a dead horse about the legends series, but I wish they'd give it another crack.
It's all about the thrill of the purchase! And if current guys are easier to find, that's what you're gonna buy. Like for instance, I'm not a Rey Mysterio fan, but all of a sudden I have 4 figures of his. E24, RSC Flash, BP23, and BP22. Why? Because they are works of art and display really well. And I wouldn't call it hoarding. Hoarding is buying things in ignorant amounts for no reason whatsoever; except for the deep rooted issue as to why you do it in the first place. My collection is clean, neat and displayed well in fixtures that match the room's decor. They affect nobody's living experience unlike hoarders.
But my other collections: Batman, Ghostbusters, and TMNT, are nostalgia based. Like my legends and flashbacks, they are the characters I grew up wacthing and have so many awesome memories of doing so.

I am sure everyone has their own reasons... Mostly I only collect wrestlers from my youth but I collect current stars whose work I enjoy. It's fun to look at classic favorites on the shelf next to new favorites. Also, the act of collecting can impart a nostalgic feeling regardless of it being wrestlers that arn't from your childhood.

I look at collecting current and older product as a form of treasure hunt if you will. Hunting in general really, just searching and finding something I like or want keeps me collecting even the newest product.

I love wrestling. Thats why. From as long as I can remember and till the day they put me in the dirt, I will watch wrestling. I'm not just into wrestling from the late 80's, early 90's or Attitude era. It doesn't matter if its classic wrestling or current wrestling. Its still wrestling.
I liken it to any other sport. I grew up watching QBs like Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Phil Simms, Boomer Esiason, John Elway, Warren Moon and Jim Kelly. I grew up watching great basketball players in Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, Clyde Drexler, Shaq, Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing.
But current stars like Rodgers, Peyton, Brady, Brees.......LeBron, Kobe, Durant, Chris Paul, are just as good if not better then guys from back in the day.

Congratulations, this is probably one of the most ignorant posts I've ever seen on this part of the board. I buy the characters I like, just like you do. Why does there need to be an justification other than that? thank you, seems like he don't want other collectors

I didn't really look at it that way (in relation to other sports stars) but I think I kind of imparted that feeling in my earlier post.

Plus, should we ever have kids (I know a few on here already do!), we can pass our figures on to them when they're old enough & tell them about the great matches CM Punk or Cena or Big Show used to have & sit down and watch a few.

Hoarders and collectors are two different things and don't belong in the same conversation. Just because you don't like the current stars, it doesn't mean those that do hoard. I am partial to the Legends and Flashbacks but do collect others. WWE is in a bad place as far as wrestling goes, but they still have stars that I like and want to have figures of. Punk, Bryan, Sandow, Cesaro, Fandango etc. The fact that I like these guys doesn't make me a hoarder.

One thing No one has brought up is the simple fact of buying 20 current CM punks is the need to have every single thing you see on tv. Its what Tv is for to market and sell products. Trust me large companies have come out with straight forward statements on this. It is the American need to over consume. I my self am guilty of it...I stopped watching as much Tv and I find myself stop wanting to buy crap. Prime example is the Bella 2 pack... they left the company as soon as that pack hit and it rotted on shelves for months, but the moment they hit Raw they skyrocketed in value...why Because we wanted what WE saw on TV. I refrain as much as possible to buy repeats of current stars, and only do it to replace an older inferior release in MY eyes. Proof is Mattel admitting their cartoons He-Man were made for the sole purpose to sell a new toy line.. In essence it was a 20 minute commercial for us kiddos. Come on guys we know its a commercial thing.

I am a solid Legends/Flashback collector, but I also buy current roster Elite figures. I enjoy hoing back in time and playing with the legends I grew up on. Be it reinacting WM3, or the Montreal Screwjob, Macho Man vs DDP, Attitude Era matches and PPV's... But I like the current figures because it puts me in control of todays roster. Orton and Cena may be champ in WWE, but in my WWE its Bryan and Ziggler... It isn't hoarding. I highly doubt people here have piles of figures stuffed in a corner, and rolls of posters, and memerobilia corner to corner on their walls an floors. We COLLECT. We, for the most part, take care of our collections. Iys not just cluttering up a house that effects us from using a room, eating, or having to pee or poop in a corner. Huge HUGE difference.

yeah I understand the feeling...No one likes to feel like their choices are being made for them. Human nature is to want to be in control of free will. Oh well.

Hoarding? Once it starts to effect our lives on a personal and physical level.and in negative fashion) then you can call us hoarders.
I call it having a hobby. A safe hobby. I enjoy the thrill of walking into a store and finding new figures. I enjoy the thrill of the purchase. I enjoy having a huge collection of these beautiful figures Mattel has produced. My collection currently takes up a drawer that's about 3 feet wide and under my tv entertainment center in my bedroom. It dosent even effect ME. Because if I do have them all out displayed, and I need extra space. I can just toss them in my shelf.
Even guys like grim can't be considered hoarders. I still can't get over how badly they made him and figure collecting as a whole out to look in that stupid DOC. Like he was sick or something. He has ONE room in his house dedicated to his passion of figure collecting. His entire house isn't stocked with boxes figures IE Steve carells apartment in 40 yr old virgin. He does it safely and I think some people just get to a point where all they wanna do is point out everyone's faults. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with collecting wrestling figures. Nothing.
