that's basically it. he was in line for a big push because Vinces big idea to halt the ratings rot was to push a black guy to the moon.however as Bash states the aptly named Johnson was too unreliable. Cornette said the guy was so clumsy and overmuscled that they would wince when he was lacing up his boots in the locker room. never got the fuss about AJ.....likely never will. Vince has always had a hard on for big dudes. Watching a doc on Vince mentions that he would be teased and made fun of for his dyslexia and he compensated for it by using his size as he was always bigger than most of his peers growing up. I think his affection for the bigger wrestlers stems from some deep insecurities he has from childhood. Don't know just a arm chair psychology thought I had about why he's so high on these "look" guys.

I remember back in 96 going to an event at Market Square Arena in Indy. Some of the wrestlers were arriving late and I just happened to turn the corner to go to a souvenir booth and about ran right into Ahmed and Yokozuna. I'll never forget the get the hell out of our way looks they gave me. Bulldog and Owen were right behind them. This was the first event Warrior no showed that led to his suspension. Still ticks me off thinking about it, as I was a big Warrior fan and had ringside seats. On the plus side I got to meet and get pictures with Goldust, Bradshaw, Uncle Zebekiah, Dave Hebner, Bart Gunn, Marc Mero, and Sable before the event.

Oh man, I could not stand Ahmed "Wedgie" Johnson. He was flat-out awful. Everything about the guy sucked. The guy wore like 3 sets of knee pads which looked ridiculous and if that wasn't bad enough, EVERY damn match he had, his red panties would ALWAYS ride up his friggin' ass crack. Lol. No lie.
The guy always had a wedgie every damn match he had. You had no choice but to notice it. Lol. It was horrible and so was he.

I have to admit as an 11-12 year old in 96 I LOVED Ahmed Johnson. He was a freak athlete (check him out diving over the top rope to the floor) and looked like a legit bad ass. I think if he could have avoided the injury bug he could have been a pretty big deal. He was very over when he debuted and was booked for a solid run with the IC title before getting hurt. I heard a rumor that the reason he was dropped so suddenly from the Nation after his heel turn is that Vince didnt think, from an appearance standpoint, that it would be believable that anyone could beat a stable consisting of Ahmed, Farooq, Kama, D-Lo, and Mark Henry.

A fun tidbit about Ahmed was that he lied to WWF and told them he was 23 when he debuted when he was actually 33. Helps explain why he was always getting injured, meh gotta mega fat when he went yo WCW. Kind of killed his gimmick
