So I turn 18 in March, and for my birthday my parents said they'd get me a desktop computer. I am looking for one that will play games smoothly. Games such as Minecraft(will be running a server from the computer as well), Garry's Mod and other Steam games.
Now I have no idea what to look for in a desktop computer, so any specs or anything would be helpful. Also any likes to UK stores(John Lewis, PC World etc) selling decent ones would be much appreciated!
Cheers guys!

build your own rig. you won't regret it. There's a youtube channel called Tek Syndicate which has videos on how to build gaming PC's based on budget. Here's their video for building one for mid build PC for UK people. It's a little outdated, so you may actually find parts in this video for cheaper.

Little tip. Don't take advice from people who a) Have never built a computer before. OR b) Don't do PC gaming. I built my computer just over a year ago for around $900, I can run most games on high graphics quality and it's extremely fast. What I suggest for you is look around at parts and stuff. Figure out exactly what you're wanting to do on your computer. I play video games, edit videos, edit images, create games with Unity, the sorta stuff that you'd need a decent PC for. So if you're only really wanting it for gaming then heres what you should look into. 8GB RAM, Intel i5 2600k, 1TB Harddrive, Blu Ray DVD Drive and a decent graphics card. Then you just need to choose a half decent motherboard, it won't really matter to be honest if you're running your graphics through the graphics card but you don't just want an absolute crap one as motherboards are responsible for sending out signals to all of the components, so ofcourse the better motherboard the faster but that shouldn't be a massive concern at the moment and then you'll just need a 750 Watt Power Supply and a Case. If you've got any questions, feel free to PM me

Alien Ware is overpriced, you could build a PC as good as it for about 300 dollars less. Intel is superior in my mind.
