I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but why do these people in Hollywood feel the need to cast black people as white characters? Is it to make them feel good about themselves? Obviously there's nothing wrong with casting an african-american actor in your movie, but why as a character that was created as a white person? I don't understand. Pandering. If a black character was cast as a white guy, then the world would explode. But a lot of people out there WILL defend this decision and call it a good move. Frankly I want characters to be comic accurate, I don't want a black Human Torch, I don't want a white Blade, I don't want a Mexican Cyclops and I don't want an obese Batman.

I'd kinda like to see that! ^-^ Jamie Bell is an awesome choice, very underated actor IMO!

So.. we are going with the Dudley Boy concept on Sue and Johnny? I don't mind him as a actor, although I don't understand how this is going to work considering Sue and Johnny are bother and sister. Which is the story I grew up with my entire life so changing it now, makes me less interested. It just won't be the same with them being either half brother and sister or not related at all. Hell the majority of the time Sue was worried about her brother's crazy antics that either saved the team or got them in trouble. Which added depth to the stories and characters. Now what are they going to do, focus on her marriage to Reid. Boy, this was not what I was expecting for what was suppose to be an amazing reboot. Should of just stuck with the original cast and just made another movie at this rate.

Adoption. Maybe they will be half brother and sister. Adoption/Fostering is my guess too. Which IMO will inevitably lead to why Johnny is such a bad boy......not because he is an arrogant little f8cker like the comics but more likely because he comes from a disadvantaged background or some other tired racial stereotype that we have seen a million times already. This is actually my biggest fear.....Johnny is a cocky twerp in the comics because he is a hotshot pilot etc etc.....who knows if Trank will even have Johnny as a pilot? Also heres one additional thing to worry about...... Trank heavily denounced some of these casting rumors as lies on Twitter not too long ago in a rant. He also denounced the rumors of Fox & Himself wanting a gender change for Doom as lies in a rant...... brace yourselves because the worst news may not have hit yet. but as people who are defending this project say: "hey at least he is trying something different" Yeah, if they make Doom female then this movie is ed. I'm already getting tired of his defenders playing the Ultimate Fantastic Four defense. I have to believe that this is something people who haven't actually read those books are saying. Just because they are young, doesn't make it UFF by default. I mean last time I checked, Johnny Storm was a white guy with blonde hair in Ultimate Fantastic Four. If they bastardize Doom though, who is commonly referred to as one of the top villains of all time, and who has an army of fans, this thing is going to be completely over before it even starts. Just my opinion but the comic community isn't going to support that at all.

It's pretty much a genetic anomaly, but the possibility of biracial siblings having different skin color does exist, and has occurred.
I just don't hate the idea of black Johnny Storm. I dunno - maybe I always found the Fantastic 4 a little lame to begin with. They never aged that well, to me.

I like Michael B Jordan.. I enjoy Miles Teller.. But this cast. i don't mind the guy either, but I agree...why are they all so young, it isn't believable to me that they'd fit these characters plus, the invisible woman should be attractive (I mean, you're following up to jessica alba in her prime)

This will be the first movie I boycott. I let it slide although I complained when they changed Kingpin, Nick Fury, Alicia Masters to black people....But this AND Electro go over the line for me. I will not EVER see these and I will not be buying the DVD as I usually do.
I am sick of the hollywood liberal machine.

Ugh, I'm not a fan of this at all. They should just release that terrible FF movie from the 90s instead.

I don't consider casting against type, particularly racially, to necessarily be of the "pandering" nature. Now, I do know for a fact that some studios specifically cast actors of diverse races to appeal to broader audiences, and I think it's a smart and reasonable thing to do. Personally, I think Michael B. Jordan is a talented, dynamic actor who has the charisma and personality to crush this role. I think you can make him and Sue half-brother and half-sister and that's really all you need to do to explain the race thing. I don't believe in any way that they cast Jordan simply to create publicity for the movie or anything like that. I think they want the Fantastic Four to become a franchise they can have run parallel to the future X-Men movies, and they want to have talented actors that will help create box office successes. To me, that's the long and short of why they made these casting choices. Nothing more complicated than that.
I love the Fantastic Four. The property gets a bad rap because those last two movies were embarrassingly bad. I thought Chiklis and Chris Evans were good in their roles, but the writing was so bad that you can hardly even enjoy their performances. What's really important in this movie is that the script is on point and that the principal qualities that made the series great (the concept of family and the humor) are woven into the script. Seriously, the first 100 or so issues of the original Fantastic Four series are some of the most brilliantly-written comics in history. I think this cast is full of capable actors, and I want to see them do well, but if the writing isn't vastly improved over the recent studio efforts, we're in for another disastrous failure of a movie.

I hate the casting of Human Torch. I appreciate the idea of casting for diversity but this is stupid. Sue and Johnny are biological siblings from the same two parents in both the original FF series and the Ultimate FF series...end of story! A casting choice that so blatantly ignores the history of the comic tells me the movie makers don't respect the source material. I have read the FF since the mid 70s and consider this casting the equivalent of someone making a Tom Sawyer film with a black Huck Finn. Just because the source material is a comic book and not a classic piece of American literature doesn't mean we should have to put up with Hollywood playing fast and loose with the most basic elements of the comic.

Probably the best attempt at FF there's been yet. LMFAO. I love Arrested Development!

I don't know about a black Torch. I really like Jordan as an actor (and the director and him are good friends so no shock he gave Michael the job) but it will take some getting used to. I would guess they will say he is adopted or Sue's half sister? I agree with a lot of people that they really should have stayed true to the source material. The other 3 actors cast don't really interest me much. I do like Mara on House of Cards and Teller from The Spectacular Now but I think they could have got better people for the part. I think they should have cast Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Sue Storm because she is hot, blonde, an it girl (basically the reason they cast Teller since he is a 'hot' actor atm), and she is as tall as Sue is in in the comics, 5 foot 6. Mara is 3 inches too short and she doesn't even look good blonde imo. This (and google is your friend if you want to see better pics I can't post here * *): Is better than this: For the record, I don't think Mara is not pretty, I just think Robbie is hotter and would have fit the role better. I guess the producers didn't feel that way though since Robbie was one of the final people in the running for Sue's role and Mara got it. Oh and if they make Dr. Doom a woman I'm going to be pissed! WTF that would be so stupid..

It just seems like the studio doesn't give a f*** about listening to the fans. Sure, you can change little things to suit the times, but adding a black actor just to give the film more diversity actually comes across as racist imo. It can't have been done for any other reason: - No caucasian actors to fit the character? - The character's origin being significantly altered? - The execs wanted to piss us off?
I doubt any of this resulted in this change of ethnicity. Not hating on Jordan at all, good luck to him, and I hope he nails the part, but for such a strong character in the comics, you shouldn't mess with the source material especially if he has a biologically caucasian sister. How this affects his relationship with Sue? Possibly an adopted sibling.
The others are a better fit, although must admit I was surprised by Bell being the Thing. He will have the acting ability to back it up, and with some magic & trickery he'll no doubt look like the Thing, as long as these execs don't make another major change.
Any more changes and I'm saying "f*** this film, I'm not going to pay for this and be insulted". I'm directly referring to the rumoured Lady Doom fiasco.

Didn't we JUST get a fantastic 4 movie?
These comic/superhero movies are beyond out of control. It was cool at first but here we are 10 years later and they're still milking the crap out of it. How many remakes of a remake from this decade will we see??!? It's just so old.

RDJ won't be playing Stark for much longer so they'll end up rebooting that again soon too. They could have just done an F43 because the F4 cast was good, and it's not as if the movies were Daredevil or Amazing Spiderman level of bad.
