I don't know how to put this without sounding confrontational, so I would just like to say that the following isn't meant to do anything other than get a few key people thinking and answer a pretty good question...
Why in the f*ck is the fix up thread in the Mattel section? Firstly, the idea of a "fix up" thread is redundant and confusing. I've spent the last few hours browsing through the fix up thread and it's ridiculous how many projects posted there belong on the custom board.
Whoever makes these decisions should take 30 minutes and look through that fix up thread. There's a lot of good work being buried there.
For example, on the custom board right now there's a nice little Seth Rollins paint job/hair piece swith that's listed under the thread "Seth Rollins custom". It has it's own thread and the creator has answered questions on it, got praise, ect. Not only that, but in a few years the thread will still be archived and easy to find.
At the same time, while going through the fix up thread on the....Jesus, the Mattel figure board, hidden on some page I don't remember there is an excellent Dr Death Steve Williams cust- oops, "fix up". There's a head swap. There's what appears to be a little sculpty work. There's a very detailed paint job. It (and many, many, many others) deserve it's own thread. At the very least, it deserves to be on the Custom board.
I understand that it would be easy to answer my criticisms with "well they can post it on the custom board if they want", but that's ludicrous.
I understand why the fix up thread exists. I don't agree with it's existence, but I understand why people would think there needs to be a distinction made between custom and fix up. What I don't understand is why the thread is on the Mattel board.
Please, whoever makes these calls, please put good thought into moving that thread to the customs board.

The fix up thread is in the Mattel board because it was made to specifically show off Mattel Fix Ups. June made a JAKKS fixup thread in the Jakks board.
Now to answer your question about the custom board. The Customs board for most of my 8 year tenure has been the "bitch board" it was just constant bitching and arguing. Someone didnt use the right paint, didnt do enough custom work, just swapped parts, didnt hold their camera right, bumped old work, took bad pictures etc etc etc....It became a place that wasnt very supportive of new/less experienced customizers.

Well i do agree it should be organized a little better but im not sure if thats possible. maybe have its own board instead of hiding in the Mattel board. i dunno..

Are you trying to say that there's no need for a custom board at all?
Are you saying that the mods of the custom board weren't doing their job?
Are you saying the when one puts out their art for public viewing, said art shouldn't be judged?
lol, I know listing out the questions like that might seem like I'm being snappy, but I'm not. You provided insight to my question, but didn't answer it.
Like I said, I understand that one could see the need for a "fix up" thread for both Mattel and Jakks. I don't understand why those "fix up" threads aren't on the customs board.

It would help if there was a black and white definition posted somewhere that clearly delineated the line between a fix-up and a custom. As it is now, there is a gray area and as a result someone will almost always say that a figure isn't a custom while somebody else will say it is.
For example: Dean does great work but are most of them customs? How many figures does he have to swap parts from, how many decals does he have to use, and how much touch up painting does he have to do to cross the line from fix-up to custom?
Another one: A simple head swap isn't a custom but what if you have to dremel out the inside of the head or modify the peg to make it sit right? You did modify parts but not in a visible way so is that custom or a fix-up?
And more: Is it a custom or a fix-up if you manufacture your own cloth attire to complete the figure? Is the same work a custom or a fix-up if you didn't make the cloth attire yourself but bought it from someone online? Are hand-painted details like tights designs, tattoos, and hair (head/facial/chest) a custom but homemade decals a fix-up?
Its hard to know where to post your work if you are on the fence and there really isn't a clear definition. Hence why most people simply post in the more trafficked Mattel fix-up thread and leave it at that.

Why does it matter? It's stickied, I really enjoy it It's like putting the "Videdo Games: Sports" board as a sticky thread on the entertainment board... Yeah, it sort of makes sense and can absolutely be enjoyed, but at the end of the day it's just confusing and redundant. |

The boards were being flooded with "I fixed Ortons knees", "I fixed DDPs hair" thread every day so Apocalypse made an official fix up thread to avoid the clutter. If you move the fix up thread to the customs board, it kills the fix up thread. Is there a *need* for the Customs board? Not really. There's only a handful of customizer that actually post there regularly. But I would hate for them to close it as their work could be lost in an "Official Custom figures thread" that's in the lounge or whatnot. Honestly, while it wasnt all of them, customizers "killed" the board themselves with the consistent arguing, bitching and the "That doesnt belong here, this goes in that thread, stop posting this junk" type replies. People, especially newcomers, got tired of being ridiculed because they werent "artists". |

I wouldn't bother going to the customs board to look in the thread, as I never go over there. Being that it's in the mattel board it will get a hell of a lot more recognition than in the customs board.

lol, That's exactly what the fix up boards are! They go back to 2011 and 2012 respectably, while the custom board goes back to 2007. I know that there were fix up threads before 2007. What happened to them?
So, I guess what's being said is that the reason the fix up boards even exist is because who ever the mods were at the time failed to keep order.
That's a really f*cking lame reason.

If ppl dont wanna post in the thread, they wont, if ppl want to make their own post of their own customs, they will. If you dont like the fix up thread, then dont post in it...if you want to make your own custom thread, then do it..no need to make a whole thread bitching about a fix up thread |

Like Nirvo said, guys get ripped apart in the customs board but the fix up thread is like a family. Everyone is so supportive and very helpful. If I ever have a question they're right there to help.

Yeah this seems like a definition issue and a Mod issue. LOL @ the "who cares," and "why does it matter" responses. Why have any organization or rules at all then? I've been in the customs board a bit and it isn't the wild west or a biker bar. There's nothing to be scared of in there, unless a little criticism is too scary for you. I agree the thread should be in the customs board, but people want attention and they are worried they won't get it in the customs board. Or they're scared someone will tell them they don't paint straight.

Instead of a thread, what if there was a custom fix up subsection like the Mattel suggestions board? It would be a bit easier to sort through all the work that way, and give people glory a little bit longer than whatever is on the most recent page of the thread or the first couple pages of the thread. At the same time, I can see the appeal for the regulars to only check out the pages they haven't seen before. Also if you use the search function it makes it easier to find the work you want to see (but not for people who only post images without text). But for most people, 672 pages is a lot to sift through.

But as Jayabidi / 3Lephant / TedMosby said, it's such a chore to go through all the pages. If it were just it's own subsection of the board then it'd be easy to go find all the Chris Benoits. As it stands now, you get one custom every 2-3 pages. |

Hitman Bono I'll give you the short answer. It was in the Customs board and people bitched, so they moved it back to the Mattel board. Does it make sense? Not necessarily. But people are happy. Personalyl? I think everyone who posts in the fix-up thread should just make threads in the customs board. Since that board is dead as a doornail.
