I've been buying a lot of figures lately, mostly Mattel with a few Jakks thrown in, and I've noticed that almost without exception, the Mattel joints are very tight - sometimes too tight, but I far prefer them too tight over not tight enough. For most of the Jakks figures, the joints seem looser right out of the box, like I'm afraid to move them too much for fear that they're going to get really loose. Is this everyone's experience? I'm thinking maybe I just need to stick with Mattel and wait for them to release the figures I want, because nothing irritates me more than loose joints.

I have had as much experience with tight joints with Mattels as loose joints with Jakks. I'd take the tight Mattels over the loose Jakks though - my old Jakks figures still fall forward because of the looseness of the boot joints (among other parts).

Mattel figures are hit and miss with me. Some are WAY too tight and others are perfect. Never too loose. Jakks on the other hand were always too tight to the point where they would squeak or so loose that they rattled inside of the body. That's just my personal experience.

I don't buy many Mattel wrestling figures, but many of the Elites I have bought have stuck hip joints, and they felt like they might break if I forced them. IMO this is a problem that comes with the smaller 6 inch scale. Hot water sometimes helped, but not always, occassionally leaving me with permanently stuck joints or broken figures.
Being slightly larger (around 7 inch scale) Jakks didn't suffer from stuck joints as often. However as people have said, Jakks joints tended to get loose over time. My CS King Kong Bundy won't even stand anymore his ankles are so loose, and many figures can't hold their arms up anymore cos of loose shoulder joints. And FYI, I display only and have owned 99% of my figures from new.
So neither company has quite perfected the joint tightness/looseness problems. We'll just have to look forward to improvements in general manufacturing technology I guess.

Back in the day when I had the deluxe jacks they were always loose a day or so later of taking it out of the package. And I used to play a lot back then and it was very hard to manuever a wrestler because thier legs would flail out when having a wrestler in one hand and another in the other hand. I always had to put one down just to straighten their legs.
Now Mattel Elites? Perfect. The greatest wrestling toys ever made bar none. IMO They are either perfectly tight or super tight, both are leaps and bounds better the loose Jakks.

Had a few loose ankle joints with my elite figures. The Assassin I have also had stuck hip joints too. But not as bad as Jakks was.

To me Jakks are perfect & Mattel to tight. The only Jakks problem I had was when I had Jillian Hall I had to buy her 3times due to loose arms that were that bad they couldn't stay up...

I remember the first Jakks WWE toys, the bone crunchers. I bought 5-6 of them the first time I Saw them at Wal-Mart. I remember opening Razor Ramon, Goldust, and Bret Hart and all 3 of them were so loose right out of the box that you couldn't pose them or stand them up on their own. Awful, but I still collected them and they seemed to get a little better. Right now I'm only going to Jakks for announcers/managers that Mattel hasn't made yet.

Mattel's joints are ridiculously tight compared to Jakks. When I bought my first Mattel figure I was wondering why the heck it was so stiff. I was always anti-Mattel for awhile but then I bought my first Elite and I was sold. Jakk's figures were quicker to perform moves with but Mattel's looks better while doing them. My favorite Jakk's figure in regards to joints is The Rock because I can hold his body and then have his arm spin to mimic The People's Elbow, it's pretty cool.

I remember Jakks figures would often lose the "padding" inside of the shoulder joint and the shoulder would just spin in circles and you could hear the pad rattle inside of their body.
I remember when this happened to my brand new Jesse (of Jesse and Festus) and I was so pissed. This was before I knew you could take toys back for being broken, so I jammed a screw driver through his body, ripped his arm off, and bent his legs into unnatural poses.

I can only imagine what you did when you found out your first pet had to be house trained. In all seriousness, it is terribly infuriating to spend your money on something like that and then be disappointed with it right out of the box. I also never considered loose joints to be "broken" because I was a kid, and I figured that's just how they were made.

From my experience, Mattel joints are not perfect but overall better than Jakks.

Im gonna have to go with 50/50 here. I never had nearly the trouble with Jakks joints as a lot of people did. My kids jakks figures did tend to get loose at the shoulders, but that was after heavy playwear though. The one jakks figure that gave me serious trouble was the first CS Greg Valentine. The shoulder was completely immobile. Totally frozen. It always bugged me. Since it was elevated , it stayed towards the back of whatever shelf he appeared on. Any other jakks problems i had were loose ankles. Mattel has given me that same trouble. Mostly loose ankles on the older elites. Especially if they had some heavy entrance gear on. E1 Undertaker or even as recent as E22 Tensai give me trouble with standing them due to this. As for frozen or tight joints the E27 RVD has a semi stuck leg joint. It is mobile to some degree ,but it does lose some poseability due to it. Overall i cant say one company is better than the other in this department. But both usually have quality in this area. My biggest gripe with Mattel of late lies with paint and construction issues. Thats one area that jakks never gave me problems in.

I like that mattels joints are tight. Jakks was waaaayyyy to loose and felt like the arm/leg would fall off and they were hard to display
