lol I still dont get the argument here....if you want Andre and dont like this one cause it has a removable fro....then spend 2-3 times more to get the Legends one....you know, the same exact figure. If you have the Legends figure and dont want this one, then dont buy it. Simple enough If you have the Legends figure and want to buy this one, then buy it. You know what you're getting. There really is no grey area here. Its pretty much all black & white. At this point, people are complaining just to bitch and complain. Nothing more, nothing less. exactly. It's the same figure but more. Yet you complain what? Lol

I'm okay with this...... I just hope that Andre's corrected wig doesn't become a legend like Honky Tonk Man with the corrected jumpsuit with belt design.... That's the first thing I thought when I heard what MDT had to say. I think they're done a great job on the line, but it doesn't mean it's been perfect. That afro looks like crap and everybody can see it plain as day. I will wait and see the final product before deciding to buy it, but right now I'm leaning against it because it looks SO bad.

Explanation on Andre. Andre will have a removable singlet AND a removable hair piece. he should not wear both at the same time. Remove the hairpiece and add the singlet to get the Wrestlemania 3 Andre. Remove the singlet and attach the hairpiece to get the early 1980s version of Andre. he has blue trunks underneath the singlet Unfortunately the first batch of prototypes on Andre had a hairpiece that was warped and did not fit correctly. This version was used in these proto photos. This has been corrected for final product. The final product will look better than the proto image. He'll still have black boots though... So I'll have to buy and extra Big Show and take his blue boots maybe? This STILL sucks lol

The figure was always meant from the outset to be of his most iconic look, which was from Wrestlemania 3. With our rights to Andre expiring at the end of 2014 in the original deal it made no sense to only release one of the biggest WWE stars of all time as a limited release on Mattycollector.com. The audience for an iconic Wrestlemania 3 Andre is larger than what we orignally sold.
Realizing this, I wanted to give collectors who already had that figure a potential reason to purchase another Andre figure, so the idea of a removable hairpiece came to me one day and I decided to run with it. It did not photograph correctly in the promo shots which is a shame. I have a good photo of the figure with the hairpiece on and the singlet off to better show what this will look like but I do not know how to post it here.
Also the final figure will NOT have chest hair.
Thanks Bill

Couldn't they have re-release someone else instead of Andre? Like say ABA Taker, King Booker, Eddie Guerrero, Flashback Edge, Diesel, Nash, Debut Kane, etc...

Great news... I knew Mattel wouldn't let us down. Couldn't they have re-release someone else instead of Andre? Like say ABA Taker, King Booker, Eddie Guerrero, Flashback Edge, Diesel, Nash, Debut Kane, etc... All those guys are probably under long-term Legends contracts (and might get re-released down the line?) - as MDT said themselves: " With our rights to Andre expiring at the end of 2014 in the original deal it made no sense to only release one of the biggest WWE stars of all time as a limited release on Mattycollector.com."

Have you ever stopped and thought about the fact people might want a fro Andre that's accurate with a correct scan that lacks a fro that won't look goofy or fall off? That's the pretty big grey area.

The afro Andre could have been a single release instead of doing what they did which is a gigantic throwback to Jakks 2009 when they did the stupid Giant Machine Andre which was just a regular Andre with a mask BUT HEY IT'S TWO FIGURES IN ONE. But wait, Mattel are the ones pulling this ery now so I guess it's okay. Give me a goddamn break.

At this point, people are complaining just to bitch and complain. Nothing more, nothing less. I feel like this comment could be inserted in pretty much any wrestling forum thread ever and still be 100% accurate. Personally, I'm glad they added something to make it not a straight-up rerelease. I'd definitely have skipped it if it was just the Legends Andre again. I'll buy it now for the fro/blue trunks version.

I know this mash up was done for a legitimate reason, but will Andre have more appearances down the line?

I can understand why Mattel chose to do this with the figure, I'm just not happy with it. Already owning the legends Andre loose like many others, I still would have preferred them to just re release it as it was originally made with the 5 o'clock shadow and in elite packaging with the belt. I would have bought it again. The face just doesn't match the time period of when he had the fro IMO and it ruins the option of using the fro. The boots being black is just another small complaint.

Some people are downplaying what a letdown this figure i for those of us who already own the Matty figure. I'd like a completely new head scan and red or blue boots, otherwise Andre with an Afro is worthless to me.

Cool. I passed on the Matty Andre and I will be picking this up. I won't display it with the fro anyway so no issue there for me. I think it's a cool idea though.
