Jimmy traded...somewhere Geno is just beating the sh*t out of people with hockey sticks shouting, in Russian, something along the lines of:
"Just because Crosby cannot get a good f*cking winger does not mean you can take away my motherf*cking winger."

I was actually thinking, he can't be too thrilled about that. Flyers take Travis Sanheim, good to see them start out by trying to stock up the blue line again. Apparently there's been some Ryan McDonaugh comparisons flying around, that's pretty comforting.

Man, Neal got sent to Nashville? I liked Nashville Red Wings drafted hometown guy Dylan Larkin. Either wanted him or Jared McCann so I'm definitely happy.

Booing for five minutes straight between Bettman, the Pens video package, there 3:00 on the clock and them selecting Kapanen... that was the highlight of being at tonight's draft.

TSN posted the video of Bettman's opening speech. Where you can't hear him speaking, to which Lupul commented, saying that he loves Philly.
... I miss him.

Neal to Nashville is great for Preds fans. Penguins fans... oh boy.
Kesler to the Ducks doesn't shock me, as it's the only other place he could go. As much as I wanted to see him on the Hawks, the Ducks had more chips they could trade away. They were obviously willing to give up a piece in Bonino and the first round pick and the Hawks weren't going to do that. They were likely trying to build around a cap move like Sharp or Seabrook. I think the best Vancouver could have gotten from the Hawks is Sharp, Leddy and a 3rd round pick or so, and that pick was probably the deal breaker.
The cap being $69 instead of $71 is a really big deal for the Hawks though. That's going to handcuff them. I look for Bickell, Versteeg, Bollig (AWFUL contract), Oduya and Rozsival to all be under the microscope right now in terms of being moved. Rozsival is the easiest way to save 2.2m ever imo, send him packing. I'd rather keep a backend of Seabs, Keith, Hjalmar, and Oduya together and look to clear space with Leddy, who think turns over the puck too much and doesn't compensate enough with offensive skill, and Rozsival, who is just so damn slow. They likely aren't going to be able to move Bickell's contract though. Not a guy I necessarily want to see go because I like him but $4m a year is a lot of cap space to eat up for a guy who doesn't show up until the playoffs.

Gagner goes to Tampa Bay and then Arizona. And Christian Ehrhoff was bought out by Buffalo. Really hoping Holland swoops in and gets him, he is EXACTLY what we need on the back end, and I know Hollands been after him for months.

Noooooooooooo Beniot Pouliot signed with the oilers. The cap is making the offseason tough for the rangers.
Well at least Carcillo is renegotiating

Vancouver getting Miller for 3 at $6 a year. I think it's a nice signing. Say what you want about his playoff woes but he can get the Canucks to the postseason. He's worth the value for if no other reason than to be a highly serviceable stopgap.
The Blues over paid for Stastny but that was to be expected given the FA class. They got better today but they now need to address their goalie situation with Miller officially being gone.

Colorado just locked down Iginla for 3 years at 16 million. I love Iginla, quite easily one of my favorite players of all time, and I think he has added value to a younger team like Colorado for his leadership ability. Yes, he's 36 but he looked pretty timeless at different points last year. I think he has a great chance of getting back to the Cup with Colorado at some time over that contract as well, which is what I'm sure he's hoping to do. I think that's a mutually beneficial deal and will be worth the value as long as Iggy averages over 20 goals a year for those 3 seasons, which seems feasible on such a highly potent offense.

Orpik to Washington, big money.
Loved having him, but now he is the mortal enemy. Rawr.

Orpik to Washington, big money. Loved having him, but now he is the mortal enemy. Rawr. Pens are going to be just fine without him. That deal he's getting from Washington is pretty horrible. Way too many years and way to high of a cap hit. I would have actually given him less money based on his play last year and Washington gave him a significant increase. He's not going to stop getting beat by speed at 34 and to think about the decline he's seen over the last two years going on for the next 5 has got to be horrid for Caps fans. He's also struggled plenty with staying on the ice with his health.

Hawks get Richards for 1 year at 2million. I absolutely LOVE this deal. The Hawks are struggling with the cap right now and they go out and get a completely serviceable 2nd line center at a virtually gamble free price. He's going to be a massive upgrade over Handzus no matter what and it removes pressure from Teuvo having to play on that second line before he's ready. This move allows them to keep both Seabrook and Sharp, which they absolutely should at this point, and remove a piece like Rozsival who is just eating cap space a spot that could go to a younger talent. Leddy is extremely moveable as well if necessary to clear up space. This was a big move.

Glad Holland decided to stick the finger up his bum and not accomplish anything today.
Niskanen never considered coming to Detroit, Stralman had no interest, We offered Boyle more than New York but he chose them anyway. Goddamn Pittsburgh signed Christian Ehrhoff. I remember when all the good players wanted to come to Detroit, sucks that we just seem to come in second on all of these guys every year.
Hoping Holland can swing a trade.

I'm really happy with the direction Benning is taking the Canucks. Very good draft this year with Virtanen, McCann and Demko. We now have one of the best forward prospect groups in the league. Next year, time to stock up on defence. I'm hoping we can acquire a top 6 forward, and i think we'll surprise some people. Future looks good.
Dallas is the team to beat, in my opinion.
