In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson spoke about what it would take for him to wrestle in a WWE ring again. He said his return as an event and payday would have to be equal to or higher than his 2013 match. He said he will still work with WWE from time-to-time but his real focus now is acting. Here are highlights:
On having a hernia after his injury: "I came in for a checkup and pulled my pants down, and the doctor goes, 'Oh! That's a hernia'. Your abdominal wall gets weak and your organs push through. The doctor said, 'You need to lie down,' and slowly starts to push my intestines back in my stomach. He said, 'I would really recommend surgery.' "
On making it as an actor: "I was told that I had to conform to a standard in Hollywood that would beget me more work, better roles. Which meant I had to stop going to the gym, which meant I couldn't be as big, which meant you had to distance yourself from wrestling. You essentially had to deconstruct yourself. Then that started to not feel good to me. It reached a point of, 'I'm not feeling authentic.' "
On his time in wrestling: "I loved it. I loved the showmanship, and I loved the theatricality. It was so entertaining and over-the-top, and I was always mesmerized by these guys."
Regarding a WWE return, The Rock noted that the event and the pay must be equal or bigger to his return in 2013 for him to consider it. He spoke about how he continues to work with WWE from time-to-time, but that his primary focus is his acting.

Besides his dated jokes, I like the Rock. Still not crazy bout him ending Punk's title reign but I understood it.

He will be back and be the first superstar to use their rematch clause on Cena (when he's champion) 2 years later! Thrice In A Lifetime!

Makes sense that he'd want a bigger payday and a bigger match. Thing is, there is no bigger match possible except maybe if he faces Lesnar.

Of course he needs payed as much if not more. His last match hurt him pretty bad. As his age progresses so does the risk of injury. He is a full time actor, not wrestler anymore. He needs to cover his ass in case of another injury affecting his movie career. He has given his body even when he didn't have to. You people always want more but get pissed that he wants more? Ridiculous.

Think logically here. The Rock is a huge superstar and each time he comes back he draws mad money for the company. He got hurt at both Wrestlemanias and is risking his health and regular acting career soo why would he come back for less money?!

Punk wins, then next person to win gets the rub of a lifetime, or taker wins and retires with the belt. Either way, way more money to be made. And if rock is going so far out of his way and saying he needs more he can just go away forever. His last matches sucked anyway.

Just as long as Taker wins I 108% agree. That would've been fitting. Imagine this.. Tombstone piledriver. 1..2..3. Crowd goes nuts. Taker poses with belt. Pyro explodes with 21-0 everywhere. GONG. Light go out. GONG. Lights come back on with the urn and the belt in the center of the ring. Yep....I just gave myself goosebumps

The Rock came back and wrestled 5 times in two years, then made an appearance at WM 30. While being one of the BIGGEST names in Hollywood, grossing more money than any other actor at the box office.
What exactly does he still "owe" anyone?
The Rock is my role model.. I love that guy, and he helps me want to become a better person.
Long. Live. Dwayne.
