Give Me Monday Nights! Foreword by Eric Bischoff There was only one thing left to do, we already had Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Ric Flair, Sting... The WWF were having guys like Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart headlining their events. I mean, as I type this, "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels is their reigning World Champion. Hulk Hogan is ours! Come on, there's no competition!
So what did I do? I went to the board! I went straight to Ted Turner himself, and I said, if you want to destroy the World Wrestling Federation, if you want to take them out of the game forever, then we need to compete! We need to really compete! He asked me what I thought we could do, and almost daring him to say yes, I said "give me prime time, Monday night, head to head with WWF Raw, on TNT!"
He smiled at me, and for an instant I knew the word's coming out of his mouth would be something that indicated the answer to be 'no', but then he leaned forward in his chair, and said "Okay, Eric. That's what we'll do."
And that's where we are at now. What you're about to witness is the start of something special. On the first Monday of September 1995, WCW Monday Night Nitro will be going head to head with WWF Monday Night Raw. I can promise you one thing, something that Vince McMahon and his cronies up north can't, and that's unpredictability! We won't be taped the weekend before, we won't have our results plastered all over the dirt sheets! No, we will be live, every Monday night!
Make sure you tune in every week, and don't forget, this is where the Big Boy's Play!

I'd love to see you actually stick with this and do it justice. Also of note, no Brian Pillman vs Jushin Liger on the first episode?

Monday, Week 1, September 1995 Live from the Pyramid Arena, Memphis, Tennessee Announcers: Eric Bischoff, Tony Schiavone & Bobby Heenan
And we kick the very first edition of World Championship Wrestling's Monday Night Nitro off, right here on TNT, at ringside is our commentary team of Eric Bischoff, Tony Shiavone and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan! Bischoff welcomes us to the show, and assures those watching at home that they will see the very best in professional wrestling, but if you're thinking of switching over to "that other company" then not to bother, as there's only two matches on the show and it's headlined by a boring trios tag match. Oh, and Cliq for the win in it! Bobby Heenan tells the fans to stick right here on TNT as they will be seeing Sting, Ric Flair and the current WCW World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan all live, here, tonight!
Jim Duggan vs. V.K. Wallstreet
We kick things off with Jim Duggan taking on V.K. Wallstreet, who has just returned to the WCW after a stint up north with the WWF. This match wasn't anything out of the ordinary from these two, a solid heavyweight showing from two veterans of the ring. Duggan was distracted when Diamond Dallas Page made his way down the ramp, pointing at Duggan as he walked, allowing Wallstreet to hit a flying clothesline on Duggan, and get the three count to secure victory.
After the match, Jim Duggan quickly gets back to his feet, only to be knocked back down by Diamond Dallas Page, who rushed into the ring while Wallstreet was getting the pin. Page continues to lay the boot into Duggan until a myriad of officials come down to pull him away. We cut to a commercial break, with the final image being Duggan looking up the ramp way at Page, anger in his eyes.
Back from the break and we're in the ring with "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. He says that without him there would be no Nitro tonight, as there would be no WCW. He says that Hogan and his pals walk around as if they are the be all and end all of WCW, but that everyone knows the truth is Ric Flair is the be all and end all. He says that tonight he'll take the United States Championship away from Sting, and put the Stinger in his place. "Woooo!"
j Sting© vs. Ric Flair
This was a match that we all expected it to be; entertaining from start to finish. It helps that these two know each so well in the ring that it almost feels like they can read each others minds. Sting retained his title after locking Flair into the Scorpion Death Lock in the middle of the ring, giving Flair no choice but to tap out. Flair visibily wasn't happy with taking the loss, and let the referee know by pushing him down to the ground. Sting stood between the two and Flair backed out of the ring, leaving Sting to lift the referee back up to his feet. As Flair made his way back up the ramp the camera picked him up telling Sting that it wasn't over yet.
After a short break we cut to the backstage area where Hulk Hogan is with "Mean" Gene Okerlund. "Mean" Gene asks the Hulkster if he's worried about tonight's match with Big Bubba Rogers. Hogan says he's confident that Hulkamania will still be running rampant after the show tonight, but that he's excited to get to defend his title on TNT, brother! Okerlund then asks Hogan about "The Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan and his Dungeon of Doom, but Hogan cuts him off, telling him (and The Taskmaster) that he isn't worried about the Dungeon, but that the Dungeon should be worried about him, because he has friends in high places, "Me and my friends, we're the 'Total Package', brother! We'll beat you down Taskmaster, we'll sure as Hell 'Sting' ya. Can you dig it, "Mean" Gene? Oooh Yeaah, brother!"
Hulk Hogan© vs. Big Bubba Rogers
Our main event gets under way, and Rogers gets the early momentum, forcing Hogan to go on the defensive. Jimmy Hart is at ringside for the Hulkster, offering him support in the way of shouting through his megaphone. Hogan manages to get back into the match, but is quickly shut back out by Big Bubba, who manages to hit a running clothesline on Hogan. Hogan gets back to his feet, only to be hit again by the same move. A third time it happens, and this time Hogan can only get to his knees. Big Bubba tries to take advantage by giving Hogan some stiff right hands to the forehead, but Hogan... Shakes them off! He's Hulking up! Rogers back off, almost in disbelief, as Hogan gets back his feet, stomping around the apron. He decks Big Bubba right between the eyes, sending the challenger to the floor. Hogan bounces off the ropes, and hits the Immortal Leg Drop! He goes for the pin and gets the win, prompting Jimmy Hart to climb into the ring and celebrate with Hogan.
While Hogan and Hart are celebrating in the ring, Zodiac, The Shark and Meng storm the ring, shortly followed by The Giant and their leader "The Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan. They start to attack Hogan, who attempts to fight them off, but is over run, when suddenly Sting, Randy Savage and Lex Luger come in and clear house! Bischoff reminds everyone at home that Luger isn't meant to be here - he's a WWF guy!
After a final short commercial we come back to find Hulk Hogan and his allies in the ring, each holding a microphone. Hogan thanks them all but then looks at Luger and asks what he's doing here. Luger says he's fed up playing with the little boys and he's here because this is where the big boys play. Savage says that he doesn't trust him, and that he's got to prove he isn't here on command of the enemy. Sting steps in and says that he's known Luger 'all his life' and that he can be trusted.
Sting asks Savage who the enemy is, exactly, that could be commanding Luger, and Savage says "You know, brother, yeaah. Those guys up north, they're sending someone here to try and climb this mountain.. Nay, try and conquer this mountain, hmmm. It ain't going to work, see, DIG IT!"
Sting tells Savage that this isn't what's happening, and Luger says that he's just here to make a legacy out of his career, just like Savage and Hogan have done. Hogan brings it to an end by saying all that matters is that the four of them stand together right now in the face of the Dungeon of Doom, and that Luger's arrival couldn't have come at a better time, as War Games is fast approaching. We cut back to our announce team, who sign off the show, reminding us that only on TNT, every Monday Night, will you get to see live wrestling action! Until next time, folks!
