How come noone is talking about this phenomenal HBO Series? It's really filled a void left in my heart by not having True Detective, Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones around for the summer (or ever again, in some cases). Justin Thoreaux has done a solid job as the leading man, the guilty remnant is both intriguing and frustrating as f*** (talk, dammit!!!), the mystery and backstory-fleshing out reminds me of all the best elements of 'Lost', as I'm still searching for answers to all my questions, but truly enjoying the journey in picking up even the smallest of breadcrumbs.
This past week's episode focusing mainly on Christopher Eccleston was a revelation, it reminded me of Flannery O'connor mixed with Stephen King, a really twisted moral tale. Please tell me I'm not alone in my love for this show.

Never heard of it. What's it about?

Watched the first episode and it just wasn't for me. I wanted them to try to find out what happen to the people who are gone but it doesn't seem like that
It just wasn't my cup of tea. But if the the rest of the season gets amazing reviews I'll watch it

I am definitely enjoying it. This past weeks episode was probably my favorite so far. I feel its slower moving then I thought it would be but once it picks up, I am going to be blown away.

Never heard of it. What's it about? "The Leftovers follows the lives of people in a small town as they deal with the aftermath of the sudden and inexplicable disappearance of 2% of the world’s population." It's from one of the writers of Lost, and based off a phenomenal novel by Tom Peralta. It follows Kevin Garvey, the Police Chief of Mapleton, New York, where the show centers. His daughter is dealing with high school and the fall out of not having her mom around, his son is working for a rather mysterious, cultish man who believes he can heal all people's pain with just a hug, and his father is in a mental ward. It also touches on many other of the residents in the town, including a group who have dubbed themselves 'The Guilty Remnant', a bunch of white-clad, vow-of-silence-taking, chain cigarette smoking, cryptic folk who signed over their ordinary life for this beyond monastery devotion. Matt Jamison is a preacher who has demons of his own, and chooses to start a tabloid-like running of fliers to air out the sins of many of those who went away during the 'event'. The relatives of these departed take their vengeance on him, and he has a mountain of other issues to deal with (episode 3 is all his, and it's a masterpiece). Just all around amazing drama, check it out, man.

It's an intriguing premise. The first episode didn't quite hook me the way that I wanted or expected, but I enjoyed the second a bit more. I'll continue to watch, because I have a lot of faith in HBO.

The third episode is a revelation. Just give that a shot, and if you're not in, well, then that's fine, too.

I somewhat enjoyed the first two episodes, but this last week hooked me. One of the best television episodes I've seen in a while.

Don't really feel like watching another dark and depressing show right now. I'll probably give it a shot eventually though.

I watched the first 2 episodes of this yesterday and I can say, pretty confidentially, that the premise of this show is sensational but this is going absolutely nowhere.
It feels really directionless, and you're supposed to draw emotional intrigue from these characters that don't even understand their own motivation. This show is about people, during a post rapture-like event, and how they deal with it. The best part of the show is the mystery and intrigue of what happened to the people who disappeared, and the show is not about that at all. The 98% are on the island, and the supernatural events, like the dogs and the deer, the hunter, and the dreams, are going to be ridiculous plot devices like the smoke monster. I mean come on, this thing has absolutely no ending in sight, whatsoever.
I'm going to watch the third episode for sure because it's centered around Eccleston, and I'll always support the former Doctor's work when possible, but I don't plan on getting past about episode five with this show. It's really a shame because the trailer was better than the first two episodes combined. The Wayne story is a joke. The sheriff's son sees right through the guy's bullish*t all of 2 episodes into the show. The wife leaving her family is absolutely INSANE. Her husband for cheating on her, great ok I get it, but your kids? Cuckoo bird. Liv Tyler's character is just as weak and pathetic, and the cop and his dad are really the only intriguing characters in the show for me. There's nothing here to hold onto because I don't see the end game.

Don't know if anyone else is still watching but it's been renewed for a second season. It's also starting to really pick up. What is with this ing Holy Wayne guy?!

Don't know if anyone else is still watching but it's been renewed for a second season. It's also starting to really pick up. What is with this ing Holy Wayne guy?! Holy Wayne is a con artist. He prey's on people at their weakest moment and works as a placebo effect. I've felt that way since episode 2, when Tom didn't buy into his sh*t at all. The fact he is ing and impregnating underage Asian girls should be a dead giveaway. The only thing I don't understand about that story is why the girl has dreams or visions of things that parallel in the show, like the dead bodies or mention of the spiders under water, which was on the National Geographic cover. My wife said she is watching all the way through season 1 before she gives up, so 3 more episodes to go. This show still doesn't have a plot, which doesn't surprise me at all.

I'm still on board. I think it's a show that should be watched a couple episodes at a time. Considering the pace it's moving at, I'm expecting a lot to happen in the last 3 episodes of this season.
I think this show would be a lot better if it aired in the fall or winter. It's too damn dark to be a summer show.

My wife and I have been DVRing episodes and (because we've been on vacation) watching 2 or 3 in a row. It really works best that way, because the progressions really show. Also, the slower episodes don't leave you feeling unsatisifed. I really loved the episode 'Guest', and like where the show's headed with the GR being more aggressive and aggressively hunted. I could care less about Wayne, tbh, and have always felt that way when it comes to he and Tom's sub-plot, because it's always felt like a conniving, creepy get-over. But seeing that he planted multiple 'chosen ones' in his various asian girls, and that there could be tens of Toms all over the country, makes that crystallize even moreso. I'm pumped for where the final 3 episodes are going.

I'm hoping they progress in season 2, otherwise I'll have a hard time justifying my love for the show. By the way, has the show mentioned if the GR is only in this small town or if there are a bunch of groups around the world?

He offered to wipe them out like it was a common practice, meaning that situation had been handled multiple times before in other places. "Good luck with that, chief." I can't remember if there were other examples of them outside of Mapleton though.
