Pearl Jam, The Melvins, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and within the same genre you might like Sonic Youth, The Nymphs, Hole, and Stone Temple Pilots. Those are all bands I liked during that time period to go along with Nirvana.
Post grunge you're looking at stuff like Silverchair, Candlebox, Bush, Collective Soul, Puddle of Mudd, Staind, Matchbox 20, etc, which made up a lot of the mid to late 90s. Some of them, like Silverchair were really just "post grunge" because they were late to the party, but others were kind of a pop sub genre, so more like Matchbox 20 imo.
Grunge is just a sub genre of Punk/Rock though imo. That entire scene was pretty much spearheaded by Iggy and the Stooges and then The Ramones, who ended up inspiring a heard of bands like The Clash (who I love equally to the Ramones), Social D and The Sex Pistols, and then you have Black Flag, The Misfits, and the Dead Kennedys.
Can't go wrong with any of it man. Hopefully you discover some new stuff and you love it.

Alice in Chains Pearl Jam Stone Temple Pilots
My taste in grunge begins and ends in those three bands so that's about all I can suggest.

Superheaven (formerly Daylight) is a good modern band keeping the sound going. There's somewhat of a grunge revival going on now.

If you really want to get into the late 80s/early 90s grunge sound, just check out any Sub Pop records release from that decade. The Sub Pop compilations are a great way to hear bands you other wise might never find out about.
You should also look for any releases from the Amphetamine Reptile label too.
While I'm at it, Touch'n'Go also released some great stuff around that time highlighted by the Butthole Surfers and Big Black.
I was a college radio DJ from '86-'93 while an undergrad and grad student. Every time we got a new shipment from any of those labels it was like Christmas for me.

Smile Empty Soul are heavily influenced by Seether and Nirvana. They're your best bet. Best songs: Adjustments, Bottom of a Bottle, Don't Ever Leave, Faceless.
Taproot. The Panic Channel. Cold. Smashing Pumpkins. New Medicine.

Tad. You must listen to Tad. They are like an old bulldozer that is spewing black smoke that refuses to die. They had limited success, but are freaking awesome.

Tad is friggin' awesome! The Gits are totally worth listening to. "Seaweed" and "Bob (Cousin O)" are good songs to start with!

Collective Soul is my favorite post grunge band, (and possibly my favorite band in general). Check out their first self-titled album and also their 1999 album Dosage. They're from Georgia though. But I don't see why that matters. The genre is the genre.
