So let me preface this by saying I'm a hardcore fan of the franchise but over the last few weeks I've been trying to get into the mode where I just had zero expectations going into it.
I went to see the film tonight with my nephew, brother-in-law, my buddy and his two sons. So it was a "fun" environment. I wanted to like this really badly, deep down, I wanted to be surprised at how good it turned out to be. That being said, I think it was pretty bad. Not like horrifyingly bad, or even wasted my money bad, but just kind of bad in the sense that had I never seen this at all I probably would have been better off for it.
Michelangelo is 100% the standout character in the film imo. He's my favorite Turtle, and thankfully he got all the good lines and was genuinely funny. His voice actor was pretty great too. I was pretty disappointed at how the rest of the Turtles were represented, particularly Donatello. Raph had some solid moments but he had sort of an unnecessarily awkward scene towards the end. I was indifferent to Splinter. I mean he was definitely presented differently so that took some adjustment but I had more of a beef with his relationships within the story.
Shredder... what to say about Shredder. I won't go into too much detail here. I was just extremely disappointed with the entire presentation of the character during the fight scenes and especially of the Foot. They really did absolutely nothing with Karai as well, even though it was great to see her in live action.
I'm looking forward to hearing what people thought of the film. I mean maybe I'm just being overly cynical but I sure tried like hell not to be. The kids seemed to really enjoy it, so I guess that's the silver lining but they are 5. My one buddy didn't seem to care for it all when we got out. We didn't really talk too much about it but he kind of immediately went "why did they do ___________", and he's not even a big Turtles fan. Maybe it was just me but this just wasn't very good imo. I think people are much better off spending their money on Guardians this weekend, even if they've already seen it.

It's pretty rough. There were some cool moments, but the entire movie was incredibly flawed. Terribly written, poorly acted, the movie itself had almost no direction.
I would have liked someone else to make this movie. From the start it was rough. The friggin' designs are atrocious and way too clunky.
I'm pretty bummed right now.

Really? That's disheartening. I'll probably see it, how does it stand up against the older films? Is it at least better than the animated 07 one?

I kept trying to brush stuff off the entire movie but it was just overwhelming. Some of the dialogue was so poorly written. The Turtles being so big, and really sort of super powered, sucks a huge portion of the charm right out of the characters. Not to mention the inconsistency of how they moved and jumped on stuff, and slammed into stuff with sort of a reckless abandonment towards their size. I guess I'm just not a big fan of that crash style of action. It was too much.

I haven't seen it yet.. But why is Johnny Knoxville the choice for Leonardo?
Am I suppose to take him serious?
It's a talking turtle, yeah.. I get it.. But a talking turtle voiced by Johnny Knoxville is a little much.

Really? That's disheartening. I'll probably see it, how does it stand up against the older films? Is it at least better than the animated 07 one? I mean it's nowhere near as good as either 1 or 2 imo. It's probably comfortably better than the third though, but that's sort of the lesser of two evils. It's hard to compare it to TMNT because it's a live action animal versus a cartoon in place of the live action movie we all wanted at that time. TMNT has plenty of flaws but it got the Casey and Raph relationship right and gave us a full-on Karai, and I really enjoyed the opening sequence of that film even though they spent too much time on an element of the story that didn't need that much attention. That film has grown on me though over viewings, so it's probably not fair to even compare the two at this stage, at least for me. I haven't seen it yet.. But why is Johnny Knoxville the choice for Leonardo? Am I suppose to take him serious? It's a talking turtle, yeah.. I get it.. But a talking turtle voiced by Johnny Knoxville is a little much. He was extremely pedestrian in the film. The voice acting and Leo in general. There were some spots of dialogue between him and Raphael that I enjoyed and he kind of had one stand-out fight scene, but overall I thought Leo's representation in the film was pretty underwhelming.

It is what it is. It's a summer action flick based around a toy line. It sells toys.
There are ups and downs. But I was able to sit back for a bit have some laughs and not totally hate Megan Fox. Been a fan since I was a very small child. Bought a Mikey figure the week the original figures debuted. I enjoyed the watch. To each their own.

Michael Bay is a toy selling monster..
He might make sub-par action flicks.. But by god, the amount of merchandise that guy helps sell is ridiculous.

Let's keep in mind they replaced Leo and Splinter's voice actors VERY late in the process. If they're rough at all doesn't really surprise me.
Was supposed to see it tonight. Ended up at a Battle of the Bands for a friend, instead. Seeing it in the morning after a meeting with my financier. I'm still looking forward to it. If it's a movie I can just sit back and enjoy -- I'll be content.

Watch the clip, it's clearly him... www.thewrap.com/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-clip-elevator-beatboxing-and-cowabunga-video/...there are actually worse choices, I think. He doesn't sound terrible, but I'd have preferred Jason Biggs, but -- I don't mind Knoxville. They changed out the actor for Tony Shalhoub to do Splinter, too, if you didn't know.

What is described so far is exactly what I expected once Michael Bay's name was attached. He's a terrible film maker butyou can't argue with his results, unfortunately. And guess what? There will be sequels. And he will get to do this to more classic toy franchises.

Whether there will be sequels or not depends on its Box Office IMO.......and that wont be too hot IMO because GOTG is PIPIN still.
TMNT could end up in the same boat as Battleship when it was ignored in favour of Avengers. I will be going to see this with the younger squad in my family but man.....I'm disheartened now. Especially seeing that folks who were willing to give it a chance didn't like it.

Damn, as a fan of TMNT since I was a kid, I was on the fence about seeing it, sure seems like a waste of my time and my hard-earned money. crap, I'll probably go see Guardians of the Galaxy again.

Saw the movie last night and really enjoyed it. The turtles themselves were great Shredder as well. Is it an academy award winning movie? No , but that's not what it was supposed to be. Very fun time at the movies.

I've been a fan of the Ninja Turtles since I was 2 years. Those guys and Power Rangers were my thing. I've read reviews for this movie; some good and most are just either mixed or bad. I see some of you guys have mixed feelings for the movie as well. But I'll be my own critic and checkout this movie myself.

One of the best movies of the Summer. Everything I hoped for in a Turtles movie. There were some corny lines -- and audio issues -- other then that...one of the most enjoyable films of the Summer.
Had a blast. GotG was the better movie -- TMNT was more fun. A lot more.
Worst part was the talking kids throughout, in the audience.
All the Turtles got their turn in the spotlight; Splinter did, as well. I actually dug Shredder. A good time, as a life-long Turtles fan, I'm more than happy with what we got here.
The most important aspect was intact, and that's what I was most concerned about -- the heart of the Turtles. The FAMILY. The bond. It's there, in spades. Everything else that was changed -- was 'whatever'. Mikey and Raph were easily my favorite parts. Hell, the movie made me LIKE Megan Fox. Leo was under-utilized, but -- how many decades has he had the spotlight, now? One movie can let the others shine a bit more.
I can't wrap my head around all the negativity these days. You're allowed to go sit in a theater, and enjoy a movie for what it is, without it being Oscar-worthy; A movie can be fun -- and have a positive message -- and that be it. Jesus.
Oh -- and the effects for the Turtles, and Splinter, we're pretty damn on point. Gorgeous at times, even.
