I do both. I collect rarer figures in the box while the rest are loose.

When I was a little kid I just opened them up without even thinking of keeping them MOC, because I wanted to have fun with them and didn't want to sell them or anything, and it's still the same way, all you can do is look at it, that's it, I have 2 MOC figures, but fiddling with the figures, posing, playing with them if your still like me is a lot of fun, and if you wanna do stuff like simple fix ups to make them look better, pic fedding etc you need to open them up.

When I was a kid, I opened my figures of course. Halfway through the Hasbro line I realized I wasn't playing with them any more. Sadly, the last figure I opened was Dusty. After a break from buying them at all, I started again buying MOC and haven't stopped keeping them on cards since. I admire the people that open their figs and love looking at those collections. My feeling, though, is that I HAVE to be able to get what I paid for out of them if for some reason I'm in a pinch for money. It's fun when you have a fig that does go up in value, but I would never sell unless things were REALLY bad. I've had 2 MOC 123 Kid figures for 20 years now.
You have to decide what's best for you. The way I justify spending so much on these is that I could potentially get it back at any time, but it sure would be nice to see them displayed like all of the loose collectors here.

As a grown man, I'd feel strange having a bunch of loose figures lying around. It would be harder to call them collectibles and not toys. It would be near impossible to convince people (especially chicks) that I don't sit around playing with them. You don't have that problem when they're moc. I also prefer the look of moc figures displayed.

I buy moc. However if I really like the figure, I'll buy two so I can open and display one. Although they display nicely open or moc

If I went Loose...what is the preferred method with cards and boxes, does anyone collect them? Should I just recycle them? I have most of my elite boxes... I don't know why, I just figured if I ever want to repackage them I could

I buy moc. However if I really like the figure, I'll buy two so I can open and display one. Although they display nicely open or moc I have the same thought, only I'm the opposite. Lol. I'm a loose collector, but if there's a figure I really like, I'll buy another to keep in box. Examples would be SDCC Taker, DM Flair, RSC Hitman, etc. I used to be a MoC collector, but my biggest issue was space. MoC used to fill my rooms up real fast that I would lose space to collect more figures. Eventually my girlfriend moved in with me so space would be a at a premium in my condo. She ended up buying me a couple Detolf cases from Ikea and some free float shelves from Amazon to display my figures loose and I couldn't be more happy. Having figures free from the box looks so much better as you can see all the glorious detail put into each figure. Not only that, but the amount of space I gained from opening them was unbelievable...more space, more figures! I'm now a happy loose collector.

As I've stated in the (seemingly) hundreds of these types of threads, collecting loose is the most satisfying for me.

Used to be loose but I'm leaning more towards moc

This is not meant to be a dig at you but I'm getting conflicting messages from your post. You're not interested in selling your collection yet you're afraid of the value dropping when you open them. You love being a MOC collector to display mint figures in crisp packaging yet you're frustrated by card conditions to the point where it annoys you and you've got a whole wack of returns to complete just because of that.
When it's getting to the point where collecting feels like a chore/work and it brings you unhappiness then I question why you want to continue being a MOC collector because the thrill of the hunt to find that perfect packaging is obviously coming fewer and farther between.
If it sucks right now, take a break - I wouldn't advocate that you open everything up because you might regret it later. Just chill and regroup. If you still feel strongly about MOC collecting then focus on it knowing the pitfalls. But above everything else, YOU are the one that has to enjoy how you collect and what you collect.

Yeah, I'm not interested in selling my collection, but what if down the line I had to, the MOC would certainly be more appealing. This is also coming from 17 years of collecting figures in the package, so I'm just conditioned to regard MOC on a higher level. And I love MOC, but with all the cards hitting the shelves now, its harder to be a MOC collector, because no matter where I go or what I do, the card is going to be ruined. This was only recently up until B39/Summer Slam.

That's about the time they changed the case design. Like I said yesterday that case I saw at Monroe yesterday still held 12 basics, but the case looked to be about half the size the cases Mike would pull from the backroom for me.

I've 99.98% made up my mind to switch over to loose. I'm putting in an order with Ringside soon for Deluxe and normal stands.
Maybe I can finally get my hands on a complete SES CM Punk a lot easier now (inquire within!).

I have a shelf of loose figures. Not a single girl has ever taken off running or even mentioned them to me.

The debate of the century, it would seem.
Also, as far as the opposite sex goes, my lady buying me D-Bryan is what got me back into collecting after stopping in 7th grade.
F haters, male or female. They need to see the episode of Seinfeld where they get the girl drunk, so they can play with her dad's toy collection!

I never understood collecting MOC with the plan of re-selling later on for profit...why not buy stocks?
