Considering how little advance promotion they give matches, it should come as no surprise that their weekly ratings have plateaued. I miss the days when they would actually set matches one or even two weeks ahead of time and do video packages for them on RAW... if they went back to that, even if they weren't signing bigger stars, I can guarantee their ratings would increase. But nowadays, there are almost no fresh matchups to be had, every full-time guy is overexposed, and very few guys on the roster have a shred of mystique to them. No wonder they aren't spiking awesome ratings, even after pretty satisfying PPVs.
But either way, without any competition weekly ratings are sort of meaningless. RAW is still USA's #1 rated show by a mile and it's still consistently one of the highest-rated shows on cable. And if the WWE Network can truly catch on like they're hoping it can, weekly ratings are going to be less and less important.

Guys come on, ratings drop every hour because the kids have to go to bed. There where a few times where I wasn't allowed to stay up as a kid and boy did I hate it. I don't think I've ever seen a RAW with more ratings at the end than the beginning, so chill.

I only watch Raw live after ppvs. The 90 min hulu version is much more satisfying

Actually, the final hour's ratings were the highest of the night in six of the last nine episodes; the first hour is almost always the lowest. Not that any of this matters at all, considering there's never any significant change in the ratings, hour-to-hour or week-to-week.

You know one of the biggest reasons I don't watch anymore? THREE HOURS. It's 3 hours of constant plugging and advertising.. It has only gotten worse too.. SELL! SELL! SELL! I swear they spend a good hour on replays and ads. But that main event was AMAZING. You're not just getting great in ring work or an entertaining match, but they are brilliantly telling an amazing story out there. Rollins/Ambrose have amazing chemistry. If DB was the first half of 2014 MVP.....Rollins is the 2nd half. Dude is off the chain right now. Yeah I've been on the Rollins bandwagon for a little while now, he has been fantastic.

I think the WWE officials backstage obviously realised how good a match was going on.
Agreed with what has been said, you can only have Heyman do the same promo, so many times.

My opinion on this is, I bet the backstage personal in WWE were looking at the quarter ratings (which I would really like to see) and maybe they were testing how the quarter ratings would do when Ambrose and Rollins got the main event spot. It was an awesome match, no doubt about that. Hopefully WWE doesn't see this as "Oh, they're not ready to take a top spot", even though I don't buy Seth Rollins as a future World Champion.

I agree it's the 3 hour length causing the drop. There just isn't enough substance to make it "must watch television" for 3 full hours.
I watch the 90 minute version on Hulu plus and even that drags most of the time.

The first hour had more viewers because people probably wanted to see the SummerSlam fallout (I expect the first hour to be most popular after RR, MITB, SS, WM and SS too)
I'm actually enjoying WWE lately, it's great.

Football is back. They'll struggle for a great rating from Raw now until the NFL playoffs. This exactly.

Doesn't TNA Teach that incredible wrestling doesn't equal viewers? They had The Hardyz vs the Dudleyz for christ sake.

I like rollins but he shouldn't be on the main stage. And ambrose should be on tna. Of course they would loose ratings with these guys

Raw starts on the Network (FOR JUST $9.99!) at 7:30 and lately Raw has been going to the 11:15 time range, that's nearly 4 hours of content to fill (counting commercial time). To have an average of 4 MILLION people watching Raw in this day and age of 1,000+ channels, streaming services, etc. is a pretty well done job. I'm not too concerned that it dropped by a little less than 10%. That's a lot of people still holding on to a show that is at least 1/3 fluff/recaps. It does not help too that a large majority of their talent is not there and that the booking of matches is really awful (we tend to get the same matches or same people).
Here's a few ideas:
-Get better ringside announcers -Recap NXT (bring attention to it!) -Tag Team division...LOLZ -Cut down on the fluff, we don't need 6 recaps of Brie's awful acting -More matches, there's that whole mid-card hell section of the roster, use them. I'd rather watch a B+ or C+ match, than 45 minutes of Summer Slam recap that I watched the night before.

The third hour rating is frequently higher when there's a main event people want to tune in for, like the Hogan birthday party.

oh and if all those people tuned out after Lesnar shame on them because they missed one of the best matches of the year, one of the best RAW main events in a decade, and they just don't know good wrestling. That last sentence is a fact, man. The American mainstream has never appreciated great wrestling. It's evident by the fact that the times when wrestling has been most popular in the US, especially on a national level (Attitude Era, Rock n Wrestling), the match quality has been terrible. A large part of that also has to do with the fact that, ever since wrestling being declared "fake" by Vince in the 80's (he had his logical reasons and am not blaming him at all), it's been looked at as a scam, rather than the art form it truly is.

The ratings are going to continue to drop. Three hours is way too much and is insane, there is really not much to grab you in the first and second hour, which really just ultimately leads to me turning it off. With the NFL kicking off and school starting for the kiddos the ratings are going to continue to flop. And Ambrose getting written off as well only hurts one of the biggest story-lines the company is putting out right now.
