Possible spoilers ahead:
It has been confirmed that Emperor Palpatine will be returning as the villain for the latest episode of Star Wars. It is not confirmed how he is able to come back but the rumor is that inspiration for his return comes from the Expanded Universe. In the EU, Palpatine returns by transfering his soul into one of his clones. The rumor for his return in the movie is that he will possibly transfer himself into a Darth Vader like cyborg body. Apparently there is concept art out there of Palpatine holding Vader's helmet and staring into it. Unfortunately it looks like Ian Mcdiarmand will not be reprising the role which means that the cyborg rumor might turn out to be true. Or it could possibly mean that we'll be seeing a younger version of the Emperor. We'll just have to wait and see.

I'm excited to see the return of the Emperor but am disapointed that the original actor will not be returning. However, if that means we get to see the Emperor in a new updated Vader like suit I'll be okay with that. A younger version would also be fine. Either way I'm excited about this movie.

Wait can someone explain to me when these new movies are taking place They're supposed to be set after Return of the Jedi. I'm not sure how many years after RotJ though and I'm not sure if they announced how many years after.

Wait can someone explain to me when these new movies are taking place The new trilogy is set 30 years after return of the Jedi. I'm meh about the Emperor being cloned. I'm sure it'll look similar to a lot of what we saw in Attack of the Clones with Jango. I've read Dark Empire, and it pales in comparison to what Timothy Zahn did with Thrawn. Not to mention, those events were set just a handful of years after Return of the Jedi when Luke was still capable of whipping real ass and Leia had become a full blown Jedi. It's not the worst idea I've ever heard but it's definitely not the best either. I'm excited for the film though. I think the casting has been great so far and if nothing else, at least the original trio is getting one last ride.

He'll just be a blue guy won't he? No, because he would be taking some sort of physical form.

My question is....who confirmed this? I see the source, but not who is making the confirmation. I'd take it with a grain of salt right now, unless I'm missing something....

Abrams confirmed it himself and Geek Tyrant wouldn't report it being confirmed if it wasn't true, they're a very reliable source.

Kind of disappointed by this, but hopefully they'll make it work.

I fully trust JJ Abrams
I'm fine with an emperor clone and fine with a new actor. I don't see why Palpatine wouldn't put himself into a younger body. Ian's lightsaber fights looked ridiculous up close in Ep 3.

Hmmmm.....genuinely dunno how to feel about this. There is also so much conflicting info out there I'm not getting excited/annoyed by anything until much closer to the time.

I am skeptical, but Abrams made a good Star Wars film out of Star Trek, so I trust he will pull this off pretty well. Most of the decisions have been good. But after the prequels he could just fart in a bucket for two hours and it would be an improvement.
