Elvis will shake his hips once again ... as a hologram Patrick Ryan, USA TODAY 12:50 p.m. EDT August 26, 2014
Elvis may have left the building 37 years ago, but he'll be returning to the stage again soon – only this time, as a hologram.
Pulse Evolution, who resurrected Michael Jackson's image for a holographic TV performance at the Billboard Music Awards in May, announced a partnership with The Estate of Elvis Presley Monday, with plans to bring The King of Rock 'n' Roll to live performances and commercials as a hologram, according to Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers.
A concept and venue for the 60- to 90-minute live shows has not yet been determined, although Pulse has already begun work on the project, which could take 18 to 24 months to complete, said company executives. The late icon's estate will also decide if the holographic image will resemble a younger or older Presley, Pulse CEO Frank Patterson said.
Jamie Salter, CEO of Authentic Brands Group, which manages Presley's estate, said there are talks of Elvis' holographic image playing four-night residencies in Las Vegas and Macau, and even performing with Michael Jackson's hologram, according to Adweek.
Salter added that Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley support the technology, AdWeek said.
When USA TODAY spoke with Pulse executive chairman John Textor about Jackson's holographic image in May, he mentioned Elvis, Frank Sinatra and Bob Marley as obvious candidates for holographic treatment.
"We're hearing from a lot of estates and promoters saying, 'We're ready for a concert,' " Textor told USA TODAY, before cautioning that "if we're going to bring a Michael or an Elvis back into this form of stage entertainment, it must be story-based. You can't have Elvis sitting on a stool singing 20 songs. That won't work."
Neat.

I'd go if it was cheap and in Houston.

That's cool. I don't mind the hologram shows, if they're reasonably priced. It allows those of us who didn't get to see some of the best performers ever, to experience their music in a concert setting with others, so -- cool.
Sadly, I wasn't impressed by the MJ one. Tupac, however, I was. So hopefully they spend more time on Elvis. I hope to get an MJ concert like this at some point, but -- better done.
These are tantamount to laser light shows, to me. Which is cool. Should be interesting to see.

Wait wait wait, what, what. What. Holograms. What. How. When. WHAT. You haven't seen them yet? The Pac one is better, they did mo cap for it. MJ's was animated, then projected. You can tell the difference. That's why I hope if they do a concert for MJ, they do mocap

The Jackson one was not some madly expensive "magic trick" like they made out. If they make the Elvis one the same way they did the Jackson one, they'll use an impersonator, and CGI the face. The Jackson one was done by an impersonator called Earnest Valentino, so I can see the Elvis one being done similarly if it's the same team.

I hope if they do it the same, they'll spend a bit more time on the detailing, because they made MJ's face look so incredibly flat. All this said -- MJ is my #1 on the list. He was the one person I wanted so badly to see in concert, and considered going to England to do so back when the other concerts were announced...of course we all know how that ended. Greatest entertainer ever, though. I love those they're using this for so far, though. MJ, Tupac, Elvis -- these are musicians who DESERVE to live on somehow. So I'm glad to see it happening.

It looked absolutely nothing like him, you're right. Plenty of really embarrassing pictures comparing the hologram and Michael. Believe me man I know how you feel, I had the tickets to see him perform the This is It tour, would've been the second night of the tour but it was rescheduled.. March 1st 2010 would've been my front row date. Life's a bitch sometimes huh.

Legit, 'Best Picture' contender level. The man deserves at least that.

Jackson and Elvis were so one of a kind it is almost impossible. I think there'd be a problem with the story as well, as people would be expecting the tabloid fodder and not the actual truth.

Putting anyone with any sort of fame already in that role, would detract from the portrayal. And you can acknowledge the fodder, without making it about that. I think it can be done, it would just take someone who legit CARES about his legacy, and his name, to make it work. Otherwise it would just come across as more Oscar bait for the sake of getting an Oscar.

I know that LA Reid came to the head of Jackson's Estate wanting to do a huge project, and he had a biopic in mind. The Jackson Estate are apparently against this and it was refused almost instantly. LA Reid's next proposal for the "huge project" ended up being Xscape.
