The Beatles as well. In this world you are either a Beatles or Elvis fan. The King rules all. Damn straight I actually like both the Beatles and the King.

Why does everybody keep saying Nickelback? In what Universe is Nickelback a 'beloved' band? They have their true fans and the rest of the world seems to hate them.

Popular artists I don't care for:
Never understood the love for Nirvana. Their stuff isn't bad at all, but its so average to me. I think its an American thing in particular, as almost every American I know loves them.
Jay-Z had some stunning stuff back in the day but he's been doing the same stuff for way too long now. Eminem evolved and was rewarded, and say what you like about Kanye but he brings something new to the table every single album, which is something you can't say about many artists in any genre.
Queen are great but overplayed. Same applies to Nickleback.
In 2010 I went to V Festival and I was super excited for the 2 headliners - Kasabian and Kings of Leon. Kasabian knocked it out of the park day 1 and so my hopes were high for KOL. They came on and just played their songs with no effort or interest. Ended up walking out after half an hour and I went to David Guetta instead, who was awesome.
Artists I love that sometimes get sh*t (not necessarily unpopular):
Oasis are the greatest band I've heard and Wonderwall is the best song I've ever heard (and top 5 in my favourite ever songs; I do distinguish the best stuff I've heard from the stuff that is more to my personal taste). I have never seen a song other than Wonderwall where it comes on (club, party, wedding, anywhere) and everyone knows every word. Its unique in its ubiquitous nature.
Coldplay get so much more sh*t than they deserve. The 'all their songs sound the same' criticism was understandable in 2001, but nowadays its honestly one of the most incorrect statements you can say. How anyone can say that 'Yellow' sounds like 'Every Teardrop is a Waterfall', 'The Scientist' sounds like 'Viva La Vida' or 'Fix You' sounds like 'A Sky Full of Stars' (and I've picked huge songs there, not just small ones) is beyond me. Fools, the lot of them.
Just because Ed Sheeran is liked by teenage girls doesn't make him automatically bad. He has some good stuff and both his albums were good imo.
The Strokes have been forgotten completely but their first album is one of the best debuts ever.
People give U2 sh*t but they're one of the GOAT. Their last album in 2009 was cr*p admittedly (too early to judge on this one) but their previous two albums before that were both class, and any band would be proud to have albums of that quality in their catalogue. People hate on them just because they've been around for ages, and assume that automatically means they suck.

One band I've never cared for are The Beatles. They do nothing for me. I think it's hard for us in 2014 to listen to the Beatles. Simply because we don't really have any grasp now on just how revolutionary that sound was for its time. Especially as they formed the foundation of what rock music and pop "music" would become, so it sounds really stripped back and basic to our generation. I think the Beatles buzz is simply because of their contribution to music, rather than the actual technical prowess of the musicians. However, I will say that as a northerner who understands their background, upbringing and where they were writing their songs, their music does speak to me on a number of levels. However, if you aren't from the North West, it's an incredibly different experience. I never really got into The Who, which is strange because of everything they accomplished and their genre/era being my all time favourite in the history of music.
