Its been noted now several times that the Austin/HHH thing @ Summerslam 99 is not accurate. It was a combination of many many things. Also when you know the background it makes ZERO sense. Most notably Ventura did NOT want to preside over a heel winning. Austin was the one who felt that HHH was the standout out of HHH, Jarrett & Gunn(the 3 prospects for the big push in Summer 1999) Its amazing how people leap all over Austin for this when the primary source is the "reliable" pilled up HBK of 1999. out of interest, did ventura/anything inside ever say anything towards that, or what real evidence is there that ventura didn't want to hold up a heel's hand? Ventura was asked about it on his RF Video shoot and when they asked if he'd ever heard that Austin didn't want to put Hunter over, Jesse said he knew nothing about the finish.

On Ventura? I believe he is asked about it on his shoot.....cant remember what he said though Bruce Prichard shot down the Austin/HHH thing while at the same time confirming Austin & JJ had legit heat heading all the way back to Dallas. Outside of that I dunno!!

I don't think it would have had any impact on the product, to be honest. The product was just so good at that time that you would've had a hard time finding any negatives with it. The company was pushing and creating new stars on a regular basis at that time and was able to connect to a bigger audience because the product wasn't geared towards pre-teens. Wrestling was just the "in thing" and "cool" back then. These days people get embarrassed to say they're a WWE fan because it's just so corny and unwatchable. Since apparently the Attitude Era was so good and nobody could find any negatives about it, you won't mind if I give it a shot anyhow... I'm sure everybody praised WWE over Mae Young birthing a hand. Made perfect sense, right? Fans loved seeing Mark Henry fooling around with a transvestite. Good quality TV! Made perfect sense to go with Rikishi being the one to run down Austin. I'm sure no Canadians were upset about HBK sticking the flag in his nose. Purists obviously praised WWE for ruining L.O.D. for exploiting Hawk's drug problems. What's not to love? We all need Al Snow eating his dog to enjoy good ole' wrestling. I could be wrong but I believe that's what made George Hackenschmidt a household name. I'm sure nobody hated what happened to the artist former known as Goldust. Meat & PMS was all in perfect taste. What's not to love about Val Venis almost getting his junk cut off? Remember when that happened to Lou Thesz? I only watch wrestling to see Big Show riding his dead daddies casket. Shame he only had one dad, huh? Who didn't want to see a topless Mae Young? Me...ow! We all need naked Mideon to enjoy wrestling, right? Family fun entertainment! Beaver Cleavage was a great idea, Right? Boss Man being hung wasn't in poor taste? Was Austin being crucified? Nothing is unsafe about 30 unprotected chair shots to Mankind's head. THAT is what makes wrestling cool & hip, who cares if he know where he lives or not? Your right, fans could never find any negatives in the Attitude Era.

I know it's a joke but people used to bitch constantly about triple h being stuck in the mid card and not getting a push. Tell me more.... I was around for the attitude era but I wasn't on the inter webs. I find it interesting that ppl complained about HHH not getting pushed considering what we know now. In 2003, people complained with bitter tears in their eyes that young talent John Cena was being buried and held back by Undertaker too.

Haha Yup, I joined in with it -- then they turned Cena face and he started winning matches and, in true VINTAGE IWC fashion, I hated him. "PUSH THIS GUY!" *Push happens* "UGH STOP SHOVING HIM DOWN OUR THROATS!"

"PUSH THIS GUY!" *Push happens* "UGH STOP SHOVING HIM DOWN OUR THROATS!" while you're correct that some people felt taker was going to hold cena down, i'm not sure how you can group them all as you like to put it 'vintage iwc'. in fact, according to this thread, many people felt that way but there was also many people who found cena bland and lacking an interesting offense in the ring: forums.thesmartmarks.com/lofiversion/index.php?t32993.html

People would still complain. I watched an episode of Raw from 2002 on the Network the other day and after seeing how awesome of a job they did of pushing Brock, all I could think of was how much people would complain nowadays about him being "shoved down our throats." People act like the internet wasn't around then. Hell, I was a member of this board at the time. Some people complained about this, because some people complain about everything. The reaction to Brock was overwhelmingly positive until the end. I disagree. Brock was over with everybody at that time period and having quality matches on a regular basis. Everybody could tell up front that Brock was a freak of nature and supremely talented. There were a few dudes on here who thought he sucked and that they forced Brock on the fans. He definitely caught on with the mainstream fans and the majority of the internet fans. A new guy like him wouldn't work now because of the mindset that anyone being pushed over the current internet darling is being "shoved down our throats." Lesnar WAS the internet darling. I remember people being so hype over his debut and pairing with Heyman. When he went over Rock? People loved it. Basically everyone hated the WWE Champion from the time HHH beat Jericho til Lesnar beat Rock.

People on Wfigs wouldn't complain just for the sake of complaining, no matter what year it is!

Attitude Era had some great moments, but there was some awful nonsensical ones as well.
