Lmfao. I can't find one sold for under $40 And this is why scalpers exist. Not gonna lie seeing that made me wAnna go out and buy up all the Maivias myself. But I would have to act fast because within 2 weeks these things will be everywhere for 18.99

Scalping got much worse with wwe Mattels IMO I disagree. Blame "scalping" on the revamp of Star Wars figures in the mid 90's. After that everything became a "collectors item". Jakks TTL were never treated as that, neither was BCA or Hasbro's. Sane as any wrestling toy up until the Jakks Classic Series line started. They were heavily scalped. If anyone remembers the Classic Series Tag Team 2 pack of LOD and hoe it went up on ebay with starting bids of $50 and sold usually around $80 at the time. I never foubd that set at retail and was one of those whi had to turn to ebay for one. Mattel is only a continuing pattern of scalping wrestling figures. When someone passes, expect all their merchandise to go straight on ebay at a influxed price.

But I would have to act fast because within 2 weeks these things will be everywhere for 18.99 I really think a lot of people fail to consider the fees in these situations. They see a figure that costs $20 with taxes going for $40 on eBay, and they think, "Hey, $20 profit!" But you're looking at about $6 in fees between PayPal and eBay; more if you charged for shipping, so let's say $7. You're down to $13, which isn't chump change, but not really worth the hassle of hitting up a bunch of Target stores unless you can wrangle up quite a few of them. And then, you're on the clock to unload those on eBay before the clock strikes midnight and the secondary value crashes once the figure is readily available - in this case, one week - unless you're one of those people who returns items that you couldn't sell. Point is, you can build up a little bit of extra spending money "scalping" these figures, but you're not supporting yourself with your flips, unless you've got access to a LOT of these items when the demand is high. That's not the case for most people you see flipping on eBay.

I sometimes buy a double of a figure to flip on eBay which usually ends up covering the costs of both figures. Free figure for me !

Exactly. Some might object to it, but it's a good way to fund your figure collecting hobby.

It is way worse here in Ireland since the switch to Mattel's......its a waste of time mostly going to Dublin to shop for WWE figures.
you are much better off going to smaller stores outside the city or having your money ready and scoring them from Smyth's online.....although that didn't work for me with LOD

Scalping is just as bad now and always will be as long as there are people who are foolishly willing to feed the scalpers by purchasing things from them.

With the amount of figures Mattel releases, pretty much everything besides some Flashbacks are virtually worthless within a short amount of time.
There seems to be cases of certain flashbacks having crazy high value later on but thats mostly because there are a bunch of people who never got a chance to get them the first time around, and they're 1 per case, mattel's distribution is weird, etc.
So you get a great figure like E12 Kane or E14 Booker...fast forward 2 years and people are going crazy for it because there is truly only one place to buy it. But there have been duds too...E20 Christian, E22 "Giant"
The amount of figures Mattel releases in a calendar year is what brings down scalping. They've gotta be doubling Jakks production at this point. Jakks RA ended at 44 and that was about 7 years worth. Mattel's Basics are up to 47 and we're only almost 5 years in

I never had to resort to scalper prices for Mattel WWE. Walgreens Boba Fett was scalped to absurd levels. The prices weren't very high, but if you search "Walgreens Boba Fett" on ebay, then filter the "sold listings", you will see 1099 sales. That's ridiculous, he's been out for a 1.5 months. Did anyone buy one in-store because they actually liked and wanted the figure?

Lmfao. I can't find one sold for under $40 And this is why scalpers exist. Scalpers exist because there are a bunch of impatient idiots out there. I hope that's what you mean by your post. Because if so, I agree. What bragging rights do you have if you get something a couple of weeks before you or me? "Oooh look I got Rocky before you and I spent 60 bucks to do so." Its idiotic considering the looming release date and the 18.99 price tag. Scalpers blow all sorts of goats. But the buyers are worse. They perpetuate the idiocy and they don't realize it or refuse to do so because they over spent for Rocky and Mankind just to have it a few days before the real heroes of the wrestling figure world: people like you and people like me who are patient and not an idiot when it comes to things like this.

On the whole, I'm glad I mostly just collect wrestling and only dabble with the comic book or Star Wars stuff. I usually am able to find anything eventually, but the exclusives for comic and SW stuff is way, way tougher than the wrestling stuff. Agent Venom and the prototype Boba Fett were all snatched up immediately around here, and I assume in most other places. Compare that to, say, the Brock Lesnar TRU figure, which didn't have much higher distribution, but has been much easier to find; just like previous Big Book releases.

I agree with theretropolis, that it isn't worth it with new Mattels. Some of the older ones go for a lot, but if the demand is there, I don't see a problem with it.
Take Lex Luger, he was generally going for around $30-35 on EBay with free shipping. Shipping can run $8-10, fees are $5, so you basically broke even if you bought at a store. Granted when they first hit like RSC 1st shipment you see some crazy prices, but they quickly wane. Also Ringside has dropped their prices some recently. We aren't seeing the $30-35 elite from there. Many are being priced $21-22, so with the discount you are almost at retail. Never been worth the hassle for me to buy more than what I need.
