The first thing I did was create Kojima and Tenzan. After playing a couple of matches I realized how bad this game was and went back to HCTP.
For those of us who were getting the games year in and year out back then, this was the beginning of a downward spiral that continues to this day. There hasn't been a 5 star WWE/F game since HTCP and every year it gets worse. From stupid AI to derp'd out movesets, to throwing f*ckers into the air and super kicking them... The only good thing to come from the original SDvR was that it inspired me to sit down about a year later and learn how to install the ROH No Mercy MOD. Sure, the customization has become top notch in the last decade. Sure, the amount of legends included every year is staggering. But when it comes down to having fun and having a game truly capture the magic that is being a WWE fan, the video games took a left turn in 2004 and haven't recovered since.
But even after all of that, I'd rather have to play 5 seasons of SDvR than play one match of those sh*tty Game Cube games. Day of Reckoning is the biggest piece of trash I've ever played... UGH I'm going to play some King of Colosseum 2 now to get this nasty taste out of my brain.
Happy birthday Smackdown vs Raw, thanks for nothing.

If I remember correctly one of the biggest parts about this game's promotion was that it was plugged to be authentic. It was the first time we had licensed music wherever possible, in the past we had one or two licensed tracks for entrances. Kane had Slow Chemical, Orton had Burn In My Light, the Dudleyz had Drop The Bombshell. It was great.

Loved this game. I played the First SmackDown vs Raw a lot, for some reason it was the first WWE game on PS2 that I played often. I had the others and played them, but not as often. But when SvR 06 came out, it became probably my most played game to date. I loved the GM mode and after finding some sites online that had CAW formulas, I loved the CAW mode and made a ton of Created wrestlers. Then I played SvR07 some too. But barely ever touched 08, 09, 10, or 11. During the time these games came out I was playing 06 and 07, only occasionally playing the other games. It wasn't till WWE 12 that I got into a newer WWE game.

The first SmackDown vs. RAW game was when the series began taking a nosedive. At the time, the early reviews I read weren't all that favorable. I didn't purchase this game till 13 months after I got it. I have played this game no more than twenty times. I'll give them credit for implementing online play (though I heard online play sucked balls) and having a awesome soundtrack. Of all of the SvR series games, only the first one I didn't but the year it came out.
