TRU and Wal-Mart have both been horrible for years at overstocking their exclusives (not just wrestling figures) to the point that they can't stock new products including their own future exclusives. When one exclusive set is peg warming then of course the store manager will say they don't sell good because they aren't. The problem is terrible distribution from the retailers. The problem (I suspect) is that I bet there is a minimum order set by Mattel in order for the stores to GET those exclusives.... And I'll bet that "minimum" order is just a tad higher than what actually sells - resulting in the shops having more products on hand than what they'll actually sell. They want the exclusives because they bring people into the store (it's the only reason I go into them, usually) - I think maybe they're a little too shy to discount them once they've sat for a while....

I asked the manager of my TRU and he says that WWE Figures don't sell that well. Makes sense though... why would you stock the hell out of product that don't move? That manager is an assjacket. WWE was the #1 selling action figure line of 2013. Sheamus and Del Rio of the baf lines don't sell. That's it. Jakks UFC was the #1 selling action figure line of 2013 and TRU dont want no more shelfwarming BAF sets with Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio. They are giving the space for Jakks UFC.

the problem imo, based on my local tru, is that the baf(especially basics) arent moving and clogging all the pegs so tru isnt ordering anything new. and while that sux for collectors it does make sense from tru's standpoint. sux as i like the baf concept and think mattel is doing a decent job of it. as for the other exclusives, if they arent ordering enuf of their regular exclusive it makes sense that mattel would limit their exclusives and look elsewhere to move more product.

Could be. I know Wal-Mart is bad at sending a ton of exclusives to some stores while others don't get any at all. Spreading it out to every store would help. I only have one TRU around so it's hard to compare and see if they do the same.

I think it's just a downturn of business for Toys R Us in general. It's a combination of their price gouging and poor selection across the board. I go in Toys R Us about once every couple of weeks (my wife loves the baby department) but I haven't bought anything there since the Teddy Long BAF. And that's not just WWE ... I've noticed similar problems with their Star Wars, Marvel, and DC selections.
My go-to stores for my WWE shopping have become Target and K-Mart. My local Target, especially, turns product out pretty regularly. They get a shipment, it sells out, and they restock. I recently picked up Lex and LOD there (after believing I'd have to order them all).

My Target is great with each Elite set. Although it seems like E29 is clogging the shelves there now and making the next product go a little slower. Also I think they skip some basic series.
Kmart I always seem to get there a day too late.
Toys R Us is still clogged with 100 million of the same figures. Alberto, CM Punk, Sheamus. Just clearance the hell out of them and make room for product that will make money for cripe sake!
OH and Also:
-"WWE and Mattel's action figure line is consistently ranked in the top two thanks to our creative marketing campaigns, tremendous retail support and seamless infusion of cutting-edge innovations," said Doug Wadleigh, senior vp global brands marketing, boys and entertainment, for Mattel in a statement.-
quote from hollywood reporter article on 2/14/14
So people touting this brand's success in this thread are right on the money.

They dont sell well because they are overloaded with old exclusives that are the same figures over and over. We all know you only need so many Del Rios, Rays, Shamus, and Cena.
Jakks had the lable and WWE was one of the top boys toys sold, Mattel makes a better product but now they say it doesnt sell well.
I think whoever is working the exclusvies deals is mis judging them a bit. Probably why we havent seen the other build a figure. Funny how when a new case hits the shelf its gone in under a day. They need to clean out their old stuff and sell it to Big Lots, fill their shelves with new stuff. Some of their basics are now a year old, why would it sell this christmas if it was on the shelf last christmas.

I have never worked at retail, so I don't know how it works with clearance, but the ridiculous stacks of BAF Punks, Del Rio (basics), and everyone else would disappear much quicker if they were priced to move. I regularly walk in thinking "why the f#ck is this still full price?" Years after initial release. Then I see the meager "clearance" of like 99 cents or less off. Those RSR Cells and ECs from Jakks never sold until they were like 30-40% off. Even the Cenas would sell at that price (maybe not the Ortons).

I thought the UFC line was all sorts of dead. Sure as hell can't find them anywhere and its crazy that they outsold everyone last year. I'm not doubting you. Its just hard to believe that UFC beat out WWE, Hasbro, etc

Someone made the ridiculous claim that UFC Jakks was outselling Mattel WWE in like 2010 and people have been riding it home ever since. That doesn't make it any less funny.

I wish I had a Toys R Us or KMart in my area I hear they sell TNA figures in addition to WWE exclusives. I went to Walgreens which I heard had TNA exclusives years ago and the only wrestling figure they had was one single basic Batista... Walmart rarely has elites except right now on a special cube display. For a while all they had was Rumblers it's like they went months and months without getting any new shipments in and the Rumblers were still there because nobody bought them.

The facts are these...the 2013 Toys R Us Mailaway Mankind was indefinitely postponed and eventually sold to Amazon (the highest bidder?) for exclusive release more than a year later. The Spring and Fall 2014 BAF have not been sold at U.S. TRUs, just international TRUs, which are not quite the same company as the American Toys R Us. There is not a TRU exclusive giveaway for 2K15. However, a DX 2 pack promoting 2K15 has recently been released on the heels of the game release, again by Amazon and Kmart. It seems as if there is some friction between Mattel WWE and Toys R Us U.S. will this lead to more problems? We all know TRU selection has been poor in the last year. Will there continue to be more problems down the line? I bring this up because it is starting to effect collectors. What's the deal, Wade? Can anyone elaborate on this? You really come up with dumb questions.
