That show was a great thesis on what greed can do to a man. You have an unassuming man consumed by his talent. A talent he didn't quite know he possessed until Tuco came into his life. He's a megomaniacal egomaniac hellbent on building an empire(which he eventually does) because he's f*ckin good at it. Walter White is greed. And greed is Walter White. I love Breaking Bad and its not as overrated as ppl want to believe. Just talking about it makes me all giddy about "Better Call Saul".

I consider walt to be a great guy for one reason alone.. everything he does, everything he puts himself through, is not for himself but his family, and there's no way you can't respect it. Not really. This thread was created by someone who hasn't finished the series so I won't go into it anymore, so let's just say I disagree. He's a pretty terrible person when you really get down to it, it's just a case of him being an engaging and charismatic character. So while I don't think you're necessarily "supposed" to like him, it seems most people just do.

Yeah, for the first couple of seasons Walter is definitely a likable character and you can see the rationale behind his actions. However by the end of the show I wasn't a fan. I did still feel some sympathy towards him though.

The Jane thing was more about protecting Jesse than anything else imo. That's not really why I turn on Walt but there is definitely a point where Walt stops doing things for his family and starts doing them for himself.
I think we're supposed to see the world through Jesse's eyes for a lot of the show. He's the guy doing and saying a lot of what the audience is thinking, at least for me.

That was a turning point for me man. crap really started to get out of control then.

I think that was why I never got through the show. Made it through the first season or two, but the main characters were so unlikeable that I just didn't care.

Like him as a human being? Absolutely not.
Love him as the archetype of my favorite series and one of the most diabolical villains on either a big or small screen? Yes, absolutely

Yes, absolutely I could forgive just about everything he did, up until Brock -- after that I was like "you're entertaining as hell, but -- I could care less what happens to you by the end of the show."

Best show ever.
I liked him all the way through. He did what he needed to do to provide and survive and seek revenge. I wont go into any further reasoning as I do not want to spoil the show for anyone...
(I could talk for hours about this show)

Nah, that's the whole point. You are feeling exactly what they want you to feel. Vince Gilligan has explicitly said he wants the viewer to go from empathising with Walt to hating him as his methods & actions become increasingly reprehensible.
AF, did you finish HIMYM in the end?

I'm midway through Season 8 now (ep 15 was the last I watched). I blitzed like half a season a few days ago.

Thoughts on the past couple of seasons?

Thoughts on the past couple of seasons? It's been great. I like the stuff with the Captain and Zoey. The Victoria stuff was kinda lame though, I don't think it really needed to be done. Barney seems a little stunted by the chasing Robin storylines. And it kinda bothers me that even until S7 they're still kinda pushing for Robin and Ted as the Ross/Rachel of the show, and that they don't end up going with it. I guess that's kinda cool at the same time though. I think I preferred Barney with Nora, they closed that a too abruptly. Having Lily and Marshal being in an established relationship from the start of the show has also meant that Marshall hasn't been able to cut loose and be as good as he could have been, especially in later seasons. Lily's dad is a great character, and Martin Short has been fantastic.

YouTube the Alternate Ending once you've finished too, its interesting. I agree about the Marshall stuff. It annoys me that Lily wins literally every argument they ever have, yet Marshall's never done something remotely as bad as Lily leaving in Season 1.

Yes I'll do both of those things when I've finished S9. My dislike of Hannigan aside, Lily is quite an unlikeable character. Just been watching a few more episodes. The speech Ted gives at the end of Ep20 hits you right in the feels.
