Due to threats against any theater that carries the movie, Sony has cancelled the theatrical release of the Interview.
Details are murky right now but the majority of theater chains (AMC, Regal, etc) won't carry it.
Sony is internally discussing releasing it via VOD.

If Sony releases this on VOD, I think there's a swell of support that will purchase it. They have a lot of money to make back...

Im sure I would have seen it on DVD or when it was aired on TV but the simple fact that theaters bitched out because they were scared, I will personally buy this on BluRay if/when its released. Ill support Sony but the theaters.

As long as it's still released in the UK in some form, whether it be in cinema, digital or straight to DVD, I don't care.

The right decision was made. I'm glad the threat was taken seriously.

Terrible, terrible decision.
A sad day, indeed.
Has nothing to do with the movie, either. I likely would have waited until DVD, myself.

I think the money lost over the Interview isn't their biggest worry right now. They're being sued by current employees due to the security breach. Also I've seen no articles saying Sony is discussing VOD, Variety and Deadline's quotes from Sony say they have no plans to release it any further.

I don't think Sony will be around much longer unless the Japanese owners clean house.

The right decision was made. I'm glad the threat was taken seriously. What example does that set? They can hack a company, leak personal information, do their absolute very best to ruin the lives of people involved with the project, then threaten our country with violence and get their way? Behind a keyboard? North Korea made a threat, and for the first time in my 26 years alive we took it seriously. And it wasn't a threat that clearly said "this will happen on this day at this place at this time".. It was a threat that said "something bad will happen somewhere". These terrorists have received everything they asked for.. As an American this is a sad day and ultimately a giant loss. We went face to face with a terrorist and backed down. Some of you might not understand, but other world leaders will see this as a sign of weakness.. World leaders that want war, are barbaric in nature.. So World leaders that want war just saw mega power America back down from a challenge that was indeed intended to be an act of war.. That's not good.

I sure hope Kim Jon Un likes Star Wars, Avengers, and Terminator. Was eagerly anticipating those.

I was honestly surprised when I saw the trailer. This isn't a cartoon like South Park, where they go after whoever they want.

No. Instead they specifically stated it'd be on the level of 9/11... how stupid do you have to be, to think that going through with showing the film wouldn't be a horrible and risky decision? Movie shouldn't have been green lit, in the first place.

North Korea didn't make the threat The United States has directly connected North Korea to all of this as of today. They are trying to figure out what to do about it right now because they can't exactly let people know how they found out.. But I 100% believe the United States government found who did what.. Just not where. Here's the link

Movie shouldn't have been green lit, in the first place. You'd probably have to be as stupid as thinking someone affiliated with North Korea could put together a terrorist attack on the same level as 9/11.. Horrible and risky is a fine line.. Risky can become horrible, but horrible can never become risky.. So it would have been a risky move, but it would have absolutely been a bluff.. And if a psychotic, white, American citizen didn't shot up Aurora, Colorado 2 years ago.. This movie would be opening on time and these hacks would have been pushed aside. But I mean, the movie shouldn't have been green lit in the first place? Dude get the stick out of your bum.. This is a comedy film.. Meaning it's an artistic portrayal of a fictional story based on ONE real person.. And this one real person isn't even important anywhere else but his hut. Are we living in a nation where we cannot express ourselves artistically due to someone's feelings?.. Well, yeah we kinda are, and that's sad and restrictive. People have become so goddamn sensitive it's sickening... "He hurt my feelings, so I'm going to do something that's even MORE drastic and harmful than a witty comeback.. I'm going to bitch, moan, and complain until it becomes a problem."
