At that point I think Yoko was just some fat guy who had beaten Virgil to me, no one who could contend with the Madness, so I was filled with a deep sadness when Macho Man went for the pin like a fool and then threw himself over the top rope on the kickout. That wasn't the Macho Man I was familiar with. Macho Man doing something stupid in the Rumble wasn't familiar to you?? His Rumble strategy every year seemed to be "do something stupid."

I guess he did jump over the top rope in 92 to get at Jake, I remember Taker looking like didn't know how to react to that, I think Heenan and Monsoon tried to cover. His actions at the 91 Rumble were top notch, although he didn't appear in the actual Rumble because of it, so maybe that would be stupid again. lol

2004 hands down, maybe it's because I was 6 but I thought 100% Kurt would win.
On a side note, Roddy Roddy Piper coming out in 08 surprised me most. I knew who he was to an extent and never expected him to return.

I think when the rosters were split, it added a bit more of a surprise factor since you didn't really know which title would be the main event. I also think HBK winning in 1995 was a little surprising. True, he was feuding with Diesel, but still, he started first and lasted the whole way and was yet to be a Main Event guy.

I have to agree here, I was not expecting this. 92-95 all had winners that I did not expect prior to the event. I figured 94 would definitely would be Luger, not Bret and Luger. I was also surprised in 97, I was expecting Bret, not Austin. 99 was surprising as well, I dont think anyone expected Vince.

Big Shocker: 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010
Not a total shocker, but no clear favorite that year: 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011
Really obvious who was going to win: 2001, 2002, 2003, 2014

1997 was a huge shock for me. It was January 1997 and Austin was 7 months removed from his Ringmaster gimmick.

Sheamus and Del Rio were the biggest shockers to me in my time watching the Rumble.

Benoit in 2004 was the biggest shocker. The wwe had been teasing a main event Benoit push for years but they were only teases. Benoit had been getting a small push on sd but nobody truly thought the wwe would have him win the rumble. Huge shocker.

The problem is that lately, even on the occasions when the winner of the Royal Rumble comes as a surprise, it's usually a surprise in a pretty terrible way.

I'd say Cena in 2008 & ADR's win.

I'll go from when i started watching.
1998-I was cheering for Austin, (looking back now though, Austin winning was obvious)
1999-I don't think anyone expected Vince
2000-I don't think The Rock winning surprised many people
2001-Austin, Rock, Kane, Taker, and Rikishi were all heavy favorites, Austin winning wasn't predictable
2002-Triple H was obvious
2003-Lesnar was obvious
2004-Benoit was expected
2005-I knew it was going to be either Batista or Cena
2006-I honestly didn't expect Rey to win, I was thinking Triple H or Orton
2007-Undertaker may have shocked people, most were expecting HBK probably with it being in his hometown
2008-Definately shocked when Cena returned
2009-I knew it was going to be either Orton or Triple H
2010-I said when he got injured in summer of 2009 that Edge would make a surprise return and win, but wasn't too convinced it would actually happen.
2011-Didn't expect Del Rio to win, surprised, thought for sure it was going to be Cena
2012-Sheamus surprised me as I was thinking for sure that Jericho was winning
2013-A blindfolded, sleeping, locked in a basement Stevie Wonder could see Cena winning
2014-Batista was obvious once Bryan didn't come out
This year it's either Bryan winning like he should have last year, or Reignswinslol

The two times I've been surprised by the Rumble winner since I started watching were Cena in 2008 and Del Rio. Every other time it's been pretty obvious.

Started watching in 07.
2007- didn't really know who was going to win. Not really a stand out. 2008- I don't think anyone seen this coming. 2009- looking back Orton was obvious but at the time I thought it was between a couple of folk. 2010- had a feeling Edge was returning. 2011- I wanted ADR to win but I thought Cena would. 2012- stopped watching a few months before but I was surprised when I seen Sheamus won. 2013- Cena winning was obvious. 2014- Batista winning obvious.
I think having 1 title makes it more predictable. For example if only one world title it have been Cena in 2011 and Jericho (wouldn't have complained but people say he looked a certainty to win) in 2012.

Edge was definitely not a surprise to win. I was there that night and everyone was talking about Edge making his surprise return and winning the match.
