These posts always make me laugh. The Self Rightousness of the wrestling figure collector. Talk of "failed lines" like Flex force, and superstrikers. These toys aren't aimed at us, they are aimed at kids. And kids toys need to constantly evolve and change, or kids get very bored of them. Hence, they come and go. I would hazard a guess that only Lego and Frozen toy lines beat WWE. Bear in mind that they still beat Hasbro, who have Star Wars, Marvel and Transformers. Marvel and TF 4 toys SUCK. Star wars black are great....if your bubbles miraculously stay on...... Barbie and wider market conditions are the main reason Mattels profits are down ( To a paltry 500 million dollars :-) Thank you for coming down from your ivory tower to explain to the unwashed masses at Wfigs that toys are made for children and...waitaminute...did anyone even mention "failed lines" in this thread? "Marvel and TF 4 toys SUCK. Star Wars Black are great...". Why is that? Is it because Marvel and specifically TF 4 toys were dumbed down? BTW, I think figure lines need a good mix of kids and adults to survive. Look at Max Steele. I bet Mattel poured a lot of resources into that failure. Yes someone did mention those lines as failed, so I will stay on my pedestal.....with a smug face. Those toys were dumbed down you are correct, and that's why stores are still full of wave 1 transformers. They are crap toys at premium prices. They may be wanted by kids, but I still buy my boy toys with some longevity. I take some expensive lego, over a crap 16 quid 2 inch Minecraft figure any day of the week.

They made 500 million dollars.....at least read the article before such drivel. The article says that "Full-year net profits for the world's biggest toy company slid more than $400m (£266m) to $498.9m." So they may have MADE money, but they made LESS money. At least read the article before posting such drivel! ::) I dont need to read it. I work on a trading floor, I know what happed. They MADE money. The drop in YoY profit was basically priced in, and thats why shares only dropped 3% Based off of economic data, analysts expectations, etc, this was not big news, but expected. and again, making 500m is not losing money. Making less than ZERO, is losing money.

I see several reason for the slide over the years...
1) Matty Collector - as much as I used to love it, last couple years have been terrible with prices, customer service, and poor quality figures coming out.
2) what do they make? seriously?! we got WWE, Barbie, and a weak-ass DC presence. what else is out there?
3) No product. as was mentioned by another poster, long lapses of product getting on the pegs, and the Toys R Us debacle took money out of their pocket.
4) Pricing. again,as someone else has said, the pricing on these i getting a bit crazy. they need to find some type of way to reduce them,or a common ground between low-price/low quality and high-price/ high quality, or in a couple years a lot of people and especially kids will be priced out. I should NOT be paying $10 for a DC Multiverse 3" figure with no accessories.
... I see Hasbro going this way shortly as well. their guardians line was a failure outside of the 6" set, and Marvel Legends sit now, with how much the prices have increased to ridiculous levels. and this year we got Avengers and Jurrasic world, which will be 2" figure lines again. don't get me started on the SW black series, which is near impossible to find newer waves in stores.

When you go from making almost a billion and then get that almost cut in half...yeah, you've still made money, but decreasing your profits by almost 50% is not a good situation. You have to make up for that somehow, so if you are taking in LESS REVENUE, you are going to attempt to lower the amount of money going out, i.e; your production costs.

I know I'd buy more if they weren't so damn expensive.

I love Mattel figs and agree they are better than Jakks, but everyone also needs to remember that Jakks figs were about half the price of mattel's. So if Jakks sold figs for $20 they might be just as good as Mattel.
From my extremely limited perspective I don't think Mattel is strong logistically. Many stores are either empty or clogged with one or two guys (my TRU currently has 23 Del Rio figs sitting on the shelves, this should never happen). But none of us know anything about the inner workings of mattel so what the heck do i know.

I think the Barbie line is struggling a bit. After all these decades of making her not sure what else you can do with that product. it seems like WWE, Monster High and Hot Wheels are doing very well for them though. Children's buying habits have changed too they don't want toys anymore they want game systems, Ipad's, laptops, phones and other electronic junk.

Mattel provide a big shipments to central locations. In the UK, Smyths toys are superb at getting in toys on the date they told us, well in advance.

When he took over Mattel they were the most valuable toy company and moved the most units (Hot Wheels skew this number greatly but still). Now Mattel is the second most valuable company and is losing the Disney license in 2016. The only outside contracts they have will be for DC Comics (who make their own figures) and the WWE. BoomCo. Was a failure. TRU has started to clearance it out to make room on the shelves for more Nerf items. When you lose as much ground to The Lego Group and Hasbro as Mattel has it is time for a change.

Its time to skylander WWE figures lol. Imagine a WWE game where you buy the figure still playable but then have a I'd chip to put him into a WWE game music and all. Might be more expensive but it would alter the year in year out WWE games that have become boring. Add the hell in the cell or other match pieces. I mean infinity and skylanders and now amiebo its time for them to look into that market. Kids are digitized now I see kids look at figures but grab a skylander instead. Parents like it because less mess to clean up and it stimulates the brain imagine building your own arena and booking your own card sure the moves can be altered and having bill Goldberg vs sting instead of having Goldberg in 2014 and then sting 2015 two top characters in to separate games now able to battle.
