Stunning Steve was a more versatile character in and out of the ring. Austin's promos in WCW had flashes of the eventual Stone Cold intensity, but he could also be darkly funny or cowardly when necessary. His Stone Cold promos were sometimes paint-by-numbers and relied too heavily on Southern colloquialisms. The Stone Cold character also brought about a change to Austin's ring work. He was inventive in WCW, and usually very efficient, although he had some problems with the Stun Gun. In the WWF, there were too many extended punchfests and "stomp a mudhole" spots. Austin usually reverted to his more technical self for big matches, which I found refreshing. So you liked the character more in ring, even though overall the Stone Cold character was new, refreshing and brought some of the best segments of all time? Kay.

Stone Cold (the character) never struck me as refreshing or innovative. I had seen the "Angry country guy spouting anti-authoritarian rhetoric" in various ways before that. I never found the beer swilling or four-wheeling appealing, although I liked the occasional flash of humor like picking Vinny Mac's pocket and giving the contents to Minority Athletes Networking.

For the time, it absolutely was. He was the average guy who hated his boss. It was as perfect of a character you'll ever find. Produced some of the best matches and segments of all time. Stunning Steve was a midcarder at best. To each their own.

However, even that type of anti-hero can work against a black-hearted corporate predator like Vinny Mac's character back then. Stunning Steve was on the cusp of the main event in '94, but he got buried in the toxic wave of Hogan coattail riders that infected WCW back then. I was unfortunately on hand for Fall Brawl '94 where the aging Hacksaw Jim Duggan squashed Steve and sent the clear message that only Hogan's has-been brigade was a priority. That was a massive loss for WCW, but it worked out quite well for the WWF.

We'll have to disagree on that. I still believe that Stunning Steve would have been Ric Flair's replacement as WCW's top heel for year to come had Bischoff not brought in Old Leather Butt and his circus of burials.

Stunning Steve stuck out like crazy in WCW as a really great wrestler, the Hollywood Blondes were one of the highlights of an otherwise often boring show to me, I was always thinking they could fit in to the WWF. I suppose there are people who like to claim they always loved Stunning Steve Austin, but didn't, but he did have a lot of legit fans too. The name was certainly an upgrade, but SCSA was a shadow of Stunning Steve in the ring. Before he was one of the great workers in wrestling, that's why Bret Hart picked him out as someone to work with at SSeries 96 before Austin lit on fire. I think there's more continuity between Stunning Steve and SCSA than most I guess. He's not all that different, same name, basic trunks, leather vest, head waggling, hell he still did the camera motion on the ropes to Pillman. He just got hurt. I don't think we can say any Steve Austin was a mid carder at best, he was well on his way in WCW. I know I liked him way more than Duggan as a kid, and I was a WWF kid with Duggan's Hasbro, who looked down at WCW as a B company. Was it Steamboat vs Austin when they keep cutting away for updates on Hogans ing knee after Beefcake hit it playing of Nancy Kerrigan? What a disgrace that was.

I might be mixing up cases of Hogan's BS.

If Kaitlyn debuted earlier, she might've been a bigger deal...great look, attractive, only Diva I've seen do a convincing Spear...

Michelle McCool imo is one the most overrated divas ever to me.She was overpushed,Got too many title runs, and was simply annoying as hell even as a face.Smackdown was literally the McCool show no matter who you were you had no choice but to face her.Thank God she's gone now.

Curtis Axel promos interest me more than John Cena promos.

What's sad is that poor layla got screwed because she was stuck with her and really didn't benefit from being with McCool.Yeah she was women's champ but Michelle was mostly defending it.Layla was robbed at NOC.

Goldust is producing better in ring work than anything in his prime. Cody will never be a main eventer, as good as he is. He's kinda in a bad position, because there's new stars coming up like Neville in NXT, then theres guys like Cena and Orton who have a confirmed position on top, he's kinda just there in the middle.

I'm warmed up to Orton but I still don't see why/buy why he was such a big deal. I just don't think he was ever that great.

Unpopular opinion. The Miz is the best heel on the roster (aside from Lesnar) and the Sandow/Miz storyline is the best developed on the show at the moment

I've gotta say: Lesnar Miz Rollins Rusev I'm a huge Miz fan, though so there's certainly bias in there. Although the whole "Communist Anti-America" gimmick was worn out twenty years ago I'm still impressed and interested in Rusev/Lana, which leads me to think that they're incredible heels.
