Are you saying the boxes did not have the flashback logo?
The first ones were red and black boxes, then white and red, then blue, now smaller blue. Plus the WM elites, HoF, and exclusives. Size and shape have only changed 3 times tho

I think Mattel spends too much time/money on the boxes. I say go to a plain clear clam shell packaging. That way, it's less likely to be tampered with, as the cardboard boxes and prime targets for thieves looking to either A) steal accessories, or B) repack bait-and-switch figures, and return them to stores.
I respect people who are MOC collectors...obviously packaging is important to them. But personally, I open the figures up for display, and I have no use for the packaging. If they could reduce the complexity of the packaging to lower the overall cost of the figures, or at least keep the price where it is....then I'd be happy.

I like the current boxes least. They're smaller and the blue is not as attractive as the red used before.

I've also never seen any of the aformentioned company's figures have their boxes ripped open on the shelf with accessories missing. Maybe wrestling fans are just scumbags, but I buy a lot of toys and I collect many many many different lines, and the only place I have ever seen accessories missing or "switch-aroos" is with WWE Mattel figures. Again, maybe the packaging has nothing to do with it....but I find it odd that this doesn't get reported more in other lines. I simply think that the Mattel boxes are too easy to open and then re-seal. When I buy a McFarlane or a NECA I literally cannot open them without scissors, or cutting my hand 6 times. I almost needed stitches when I opened my McFarlane Masahiro Tanaka figure I cut my finger so bad....and there woud have been no way to re-seal that package and return it with another figure inside.

I agree that clamshell packaging like those used on McFarlane toys are very secure and once they are opened, they stay that way. No way to seal it back since it will he very evident that it has been opened. Clamshell is really tough to open and can be very sharp once it has been cut open. And since Mattel caters more towards kids, thats a big no no.

The original black and red were UGLY and didn't help sales (as much as packaging can affect sales), the white and red were nicer but the last blues ones were my fav. I like the newer smaller ones though too. There's still WAY to much packaging though.

I've liked every packaging change they've done, but I think the current is my favorite. I think the boxes could stand to get a bit smaller though. (Maybe alone the lines of Star Wars Black, Funko Legacy, or Marvel Legends.)

What does packaging matter? Quite a lot, actually. And not just to MOC collectors... Mattel have to make their product seem attractive/desirable to kids and parents (and the casual buyer) - and the packaging plays a big part in the overall look.
