It's gonna have to be Hogan 1 Angle 2 Michaels 3.
Hogan in his prime perfected the showmanship. I'd never have been a fan if it weren't for Hogan. Love him or hate him his message in the 80s was legit, and empowering to a lot of kids. Beyond that, he always made time for the fans. I'll always prefer the stories to the in ring aspect and Hogan sold them all perfectly. Every contender was a huge threat based on the almost biblical nature of his promos. Even though you knew it would be Hulk up, boot, legdrop, as a kid Hogan sold the build like this could be the one he doesn't come back from, particularly with Earthquake and Bundy. He was so strong that after his loss to Warrior you couldn't be sure he was ever the same, and in many ways he wasn't. he was the face of the company, the poster boy, but he just had that something. Cena is today's Hogan, and he's a way better wrestler, but he's just missing something intangible that Hogan had in his prime.
Then in 96, I was out. I was done. I hadn't watched wrestling in a few years..the nWo happens and Hollywood brought me right back in. I never thought he could pull off being a heel, but Hogan is one of the best heels I've ever seen. He went from being unbeatable to being unable to win without help. He was smug and sarcastic like a mafia boss. it was awesome.
In 2002, he returned home, and I was hooked all over again. The nWo thing was great to see, but he wasn't that Hollywood anymore. it worked, but not the way that it was intended to. it wasn't the nWo, it was Hulk's return vehicle. I loved seeing the big 3, and it was amazing to get Hall back, but thiS quickly became about the power of Hulkamania. Hulk was very likeable at this point. he didn't have the intensity he had in the 80s or the bravado he had as Hollywood, and it might not have worked if he had. Tis was the story of an aging hero who went for it because the fans believed in him. it was an incredible story, my strong I favorite Hulk Hogan period behind 84-88. it was a special time, and should've been Hogans farewell tour. It was magic, and not many others could've made it work as well as it did.
As for Angle and Michaels, they perfected all aspects of pro wrestling like nobody else could dream of. beautiful, graceful, and dazzling in the ring while believable, compelling, and emotive outside. Kurt Angle is the best pro wrestler EVER, hands down. Everyone knows the story, Olympics, broken freaking neck, gold medal. He comes around and is the biggest jerk ass you could ever meet. worst of all he's every bit as good as he says he is. As a heel, when it was time to look silly, he sold it perfectly. Perfectly, and like nobody else ever could. he was hilarious, vicious, conniving, brave, and dignified all at different times. He was just incredible, and nobody could ever do what Angle did the way he did it. A personal favorite was Rumble 02, HHH returns from the quad tear. Angle is interviewed, making snide remarks...then he says "i tore my quad this morning, I'm here, I'm working", you'd have to see it. I'll never forget it.
HBK is a hair below, or even. hard to discern. Michaels' storylines are better than anyone's, particularly later ones with JBL, Jericho, and Taker, but we can't forget HHH either. Shawn Michaels and his heart are a part of Wrestlemania season that I really miss, particularly with respect to this year's lukewarm card. There's a reason he was Mr. Wrestlemania, it's very much not the same without him. The reason I was so adamant about Bryan being the guy to take down Lesnar is an ode to Shawn Michaels. The underdog who overcame a career ending injury, gong up the immovable object. As a heel you just wanted to bitch slap that smirk off of his face. as great as he could make guys look in the ring, he could really make you loathe him on the Mic as well. he clearly had it, and a lot of that was due to his own true personality at the time. Then he turned face and somehow managed to develop a strange boy next door (albeit an incredibly cocky one) charm that would win you over...and he was just stellar in the ring. He went away in 1998 and returned a changed man. He kind of lost Shawn Michaels for awhile, but he needed to do that to sort himself out. he was stellar in the ring, but something was missing...it didn't take him long to find it and return better than ever. On the heart and soul level he was ahead of the game again. he still had the damaged, almost tragic elder statesman vibe where you got the feeling he could be gone forever after one bad bump, but on the other hand he was the lighthearted, youthful daredevil who would do anything to win. A true multifaceted character, Shawn Michaels may well be the best ever. It's close between Angle and Michaels really. I wanted to really pull for someone like I could pull for guys like Shawn and Hogan. Hell, Angle was the heel at Wrestlemania 19 and he made me pull for him.
This year's Wrestlemania doesn't have any of that, and we are all worse off because of it. I can't pull for Reigns, everyone knows the outcome, and he has no personality to identify with. Wrestlemania should be an epic story, this year it just doesn't have the heart and soul. There are people who could be that guy. DB obviously, Ziggler could do it, Cody Rhodes could do it, Zayn could do it. I'm sure there are others
honorable mention in no particular order: Mr. Perfect Owen Hart Ted DiBiase Randy Savage Triple H The Undertaker Eddie Guerrero

1. Hulk Hogan. No one embodies what wrestling was all about in the 80's/my childhood quite like The Hulkster. I literally, as a 32 year old man, still get goosebumps when I hear Real American. His promos in the late mid-to-late 80s were awe inspiring. I will be the first to admit that his in-ring work was never going to set the world on fire, but he talked you into the arenas or in front of the tv without ever needing to put on 5 Star matches.
2. Jeff Hardy. The internal debate for me between Hogan and Hardy is a difficult one when trying to name my #1. I can watch Jeff matches all day and never get tired of it. His entrances, for any company, are intoxicating and addictive. His ring gear, although really just some circa 1997 Hot Topic gear and some tights on his arms, has always looked awesome to me. (I'm actually the proud owner of some ring-worn Jeff Hardy arm sleeves from a Smackdown in Hershey). The facepaint is awesome, the moveset is awesome...barring his down period in TNA, I have nothing bad to say about Jeff. Love the guy.
3. Cody Rhodes & Kane are a 2-way tie for 3rd place for me. Kane has history while Cody is quickly moving up the ladder (I hate Stardust, though). Kane has consistently been a compelling character for almost 18 years. A dedicated WWE guy who has done some really ludicrous, character-dimming things during his tenure with the fed (Katie Vick and Team Hell No, anyone?), but still remains a guy you can rely on to be interesting in most situations. Cody is moving up my list due to his great in-ring work, and his ability to take various character tweaks and roll with them. His debut gimmick, the blue chipper teaming with Hardcore Holly was good, Dashing was great, the deformed, mask wearing Cody was incredible, the goofy mustache thing worked in a short spurt and Stardust, as stupid as it is, is totally being done justice by him. He clearly has wrestling in his blood, as Dusty, who is amazing, clearly raised a great all-around professional wrestler. If his lisp doesn't hold him back, the sky is the limit.
Honorable Mentions: 1. Eddy Guerrero 2. WCW-era Raven 3. Dusty Rhodes 4. Devon 5. Macho Man 6. Sting 7. Luke Harper 8. La Parka (L.A. Park) 9. Dr. Wagner Jr. 10. Mick Foley

1) The Ultimate Warrior - First wrestler I ever watched, and he was so energetic and entertaining that I've always been amazed by him. His crazy promos, build, trademark shaking the ropes, and fast paced matches all just captured my attention. I had the privilege to meet Warrior in 2008, and he was a great guy, one of my favourite memories. I've never cared about wrestlers who are considered among the best technical wrestlers of all time, but who just put me to sleep watching their boring, slow paced matches. I will always watch an Ultimate Warrior match over any other match, because my preference goes to short, fast-paced matches. I watch wrestling to be entertained, not admire it as an art form. It's called sports entertainment for a reason.
2) Jeff Hardy - Such an entertaining wrestler to watch in matches, with his crazy high risk moves and his energetic entrance dance. He also had a unique look with the armbands that I think is one of the greatest pieces of ring gear of all time. The first RAW I ever watched opened by recapping the previous RAW's main event of Jeff Hardy VS Umaga in a Steel Cage match, ending with Hardy diving off the top of the cage onto Umaga with a Whisper In The Wind. Unfortunately I recently tried to track down that promo and had no success, only finding poor quality 240p recordings of the match itself rather than the recap promo. Of course not long after, there was the crazy dive Hardy did off the RAW stage scaffolding onto Randy Orton. One of my favourite matches is Extreme Rules 2008 of Jeff Hardy VS Umaga in a Falls Count Anywhere match, ending with the crazy Swanton Bomb off the truck.
3) Chris Jericho - This is the most entertaining wrestler on the mic in my opinion. His 1999 WWF debut is my favourite debut of all time, and I also adore his 2007 return. The Lionsault is one of my favourite moves. It's a shame that he's done being a full-time wrestler now, but at least we have plenty of entertaining footage over the years.
