Mine went with Dog Soldiers :/ I saw Dog Soldiers not that long ago for the first time, my brother had raved about it for years to me but it didn't live up to the hype IMO. It's a great werewolf movie, but the problem is there are so few quality werewolf flicks that nothing "great" is ever going to live up to the hype, when compared. Which I hate, because I love werewolves. They just end up short changed in most flicks.

I didn't dislike Dog Soldiers or anything, it just didn't live up to the expectations I had of it from what my brother said.

It's a strange goal to most, but I absolutely want to make a fantastic werewolf movie before my career is over. I doubt it will ever be considered the best in the sub-genre, but -- I would be content for any werewolf fan to watch it and go "That's what they should be". 30 Days of Night is closer to what a good werewolf flick should be, than vampires. They're the epitome of embracing your animalistic nature. There should be blood, and gore, and sex, and eating. It's one's base instincts come to life. Yet they're either an after thought like you said, or dumbed down. Bleh.

Doesn't hurt that its his love letter to Aliens & Predator which are two of my all time faves.

Indeed. Love Predator. Did you ever get to see the short they did? Dog Soldiers meets Red Riding Hood? Nope? what's the story with that? I can't find it online anymore, but I guess back when Dog Soldiers 2 was gaining some steam a couple years ago, some of the crew took one of the werewolf costumes and basically did a quick short where Little Red Riding Hood was going to visit her grandma, and it was this cat/mouse sequence through the woods. It was cool. I still want DS2, whether they go with the original story planned or not.
