So I take it they painted the boots and trunks? Also, these should always be brought to a manager. Because Customer Service probably did the return and they don't want to get in trouble, so they'll put it back out. I found three repackaged Jakks figures (all beat to hell and scratched up like they had been sent through a wood chipper) in Elite boxes a few years ago at one store and took them to the front to show both the customer service person AND the store manager.
The store manager said she couldn't believe any associate would take those back and thanked me for showing them to her. I felt pretty good and like I had done my part in stopping it from happening again.
The very next time I went in that store, the EXACT SAME figures had been put back on the shelf. The manager did NOTHING, so taking them to management is as pointless as showing them to anyone else.

I feel majority of people on this forum have no clue what it is like working retail. Speaking from experience, if you saw half of the ridiculous sh*t people try to return, a few action figures in the incorrect boxes would be nothing. Majority of sales associates at retale stores have not the slightest idea of pro wrestling or what the toys should look like and you would be foolish to think they should.

This. most stores have policies where they have to take everything back with a receipt, even if they know it's stolen or a repack. It's people doing their jobs. Even bringing it up to a manager won't do antrying in the long run. They'll mark as shortage, Mattel will probably reimburse them. then depending on the store, they'll just mark it down and throw it back on the shelf.

Yeah - that's the thing... unless they're specifically told to do so, the staff member wouldn't even look twice at the returned figure - it looks pretty genuine/real if you knew nothing about the actual figure or wrestling.

I worked in retail management for 12 years, so I know what should and should not be accepted as returns and given refunds or exchanges. This particular figure, being boxed, the switch might not be as noticeable, but with other switched figures in other threads on here, bubbles have been taped to cards, even stapled and they have been returned.
If employees have been trained, at all like they should be, then those types of returns would not happen.
That is why Walmart, and like stores, should still have department managers that have a working knowledge of their products and could see things like this occurring. Almost every store had department managers for the longest time. Now, in efforts to save money in salaries and such, most stores have done away with those. Stores also hire more part timers than full time employees in an effort to avoid health insurance and other expenditures, and they do not have enough vested in their 10 to 20 hours a week job to feel the need to care as much.

you guys are being pretty generous in your assumptions that your average customer service employee at a big retailer has any idea what is and isn't current in the action figure world. nevermind expecting them to know who wrestlers are. and matching the face of a toy to the picture on the package doesn't always work, either. how many figures have been released that look NOTHING like the person their made to look like?

The worst I've ever seen was when the figures in the Jakks CS "Mascots" three pack had been replaced by three Dollar Store knock off Transformers. I took it to a manager who couldn't seem to understand what I was talking about (and even kind of acted like I did it), and the next time I went back, the set was right back on the shelf.

Even when employees do know that something is fishy and has a working knowledge of their products, there is a common practice in retail in America that "the customer is always right" and if they say they bought it like that, then they bought it like that.

The best one I've seen was dusty rhodes swapped with dm flair with a wash cloth wrapped around the figure and a hasbro mdm belt
