Hey, just wondering if anyone else on here collects vinyl records.
I started last year around October and my collection has grown like a wild fire. My friends dad as a record room with every wall just filled with records on shelves covering all 4 walls. And he buys boxes from people every so often, goes through them finds the ones he wants, then lets me and his son go through them and pick what we want and then he resells the rest.
Plus, I go to the record shop downtown every couple weeks and I usually get at least 2 or 3.
So far, I'd say my favorite ones I have are Against Me! Transgender Dysphoria Blues, Pearl Jam Lightning Bolt, and Real Friends Maybe This Place Is The Same And We're Just Changing.

I started collecting vinyl seriously after I got a record player for Christmas not last one but the one before that and my collection has grown to be over 100. In fact I'm just about to go and pick up 2112 remastered on vinyl. The crown jewel of my collection though is my autographed Welcome To My Nightmare which I got personalized when I met Alice Cooper at the Edmonton Comic Expo last year.

I was just going to start a thread about the awful experience I had at the Lehigh Valley Music Expo.
But no, I don't collect vinyl. I find no need to buy it if I can get it on CD. Plus the prices for phonograph needles are ungodly insane.

I collect Vinyl and CD! My collection is not that big, I bought like 10 or so and got about 20 from my father. Sometimes I'm in the mood to listen to Vinyl, it has its own vibe to it somehow.
I also enjoy PJ's Lightning Bolt a lot, I think this one and Temple of the Dog are the ones I play the most.

Plus the prices for phonograph needles are ungodly insane. What happened at the Lehigh Valley Music Expo? It was awful. 80% of the vendors didn't have their merchandise separated by genre, and didn't have it in alphabetical order. The smell of stale cigarettes, bad leather jackets and unwashed ass was overwhelming. And the amount of douchebag hipsters took the cake. People nudging past you, breathing on you or just taking up an entire aisle to go through a box of records with no disregard for traffic. I used to enjoy going to this show 15 or 20 years ago but the older I get, the worse it gets. Dammit, now I'm in a bad mood. I need some ice cream.

I used to collect records, but just plum ran out of room for them. IMO, you just can't get the same sound on CD. There's something about the softness and smooth tones on vinyl. Like it makes the music sort of come alive. One day, when I have more room and more money, I'll definitely start collecting again.

My dad still has his collection from the 70s. He's got some great albums there. He wanted to sell/throw them out once but I told him he wasnt allowed to. While "quality" of music has certainly improved over the years, there is just something nostalgic about listening to something on vinyl.

I don't have a great record player... Well, that's a lie, I don't have great speakers. But I like having the thing to collect. CD's are cool, I collect those too for when I'm in the car or something. But there's just something cool about getting a record. A lot of times it comes with more things.
For instance, my Pearl Jam Lightning Bolt came with a sheet of stickers or all the different artwork that they had done for each song, and it came with a book with all of Eddie's hand written lyrics in it (Or they might be typed on his type writer, I know one PJ one I have has the hand written one) and the eye in the middle of the logo is cut out on the cover and when you slide the sleeve for the record out, the eye is on that.
And my Against Me Reinventing Axl Rose record came with a poster. My Fozzy Do You Wanna Start A War came with the CD as did my Pennywise All or Nothing. I have really old original albums from Neil Diamond and Elton John. My mom gets to relive some of her childhood with the Grease and Footloose soundtracks on vinyl, and ABBA and all that stuff.
It's just something really cool to collect. Sure I can download it for free, but it's cool to have something physical and it's always the best feeling going to the record shop and finding something you wouldn't expect to find.

I'd love to start one when I'm older. But right now I can't really afford it.
I'm a huge fan of Pearl Jam's Lightning Bolt and on vinyl it has to be even more awesome than on CD or mp3.

I own a lot more vinyl than I do CDs these days. this. many local artists have started working in vinyl, and most of my favourite current artists prefer that format and you get more out of it than their cd releases. most current vinyl comes with a digital download code, so there's no worry if you want the mp3s for your phone etc. i'm currently waiting on julian casablancas and the voidz release, 'tyranny'. before that i picked up the joyce manor/toys that kill split and tony molina's 'dissed and dismissed', which is a weezer pinkerton era ripoff...but still great stuff:

I collect vinyl but only what I like. Example being I have nearly every studio release from the Ramones, as well as bootlegs and singles. I have everything Roth era Van Halen. Green Day, The Queers, Screeching Weasel, and other punk bands I like. I'm starting up my Rancid collection now. Best thing about Chicago is there are plenty of used record stores. I like beat up covers, it shows age.
When I was younger I would listen to vinyl and just stare at the cover lol.

Mine has this too, is there another version of it? The CD comes with the same booklet but without the stickers. There are also a few PJ ones that include Posters, can't put my finger on which one though...

I have it on all three and it is. It's just cool having it. Like, I don't notice the sound difference as much because my speakers aren't THAT great, but just having the vinyl disc, and the cover, and sleeve, and book, and stickers, it's just cool to have it. But all the Pearl Jam members are really into vinyl, so they put a lot of work into them, AND the CD's they make. The Lightning Bolt one is a cardboard case that opens like a book and it actually is a book now that I say that, and it has all the lyrics in and artwork on each page and then the back cover has a little envolope type thing that you slide the CD out of. Just another reason I love Pearl Jam, they put a lot of effort into their stuff so fans get their money worth.

This is the record player we have. I bought it for my wife for Christmas 4 years ago. It sounds great. Went to my local record store the other day and picked up: Kiss: Alive II Bob Seger: Stranger In Town Poison: Open Up and Say Ahh
