Hmm, Interesting. I have heard the opposite. i hear a big complaint about the ASR is the loose ropes. ESR has tighter ropes Well for some people maybe but for me the ASR ropes are better and at least you can buy tight ropes from Ringside. Unless WCT changed the ropes the Authentic Scale Ring comes with, the ropes are much thinner than the Mattel's ESR ropes and way more lose. I have two ASRs from different production generations (you can tell because they came with completely different ring mats) and both sets of ropes have no tightness to them at all compared to Mattel's. But Ringside does have the tightest and best ropes.

I thought the ESR had metal ring posts. Or did none of the Mattel rings have this and it was only the old Jakks ones. I am just now starting to get interested in getting a ring for display and had no idea Mattel still sold the ESR! The ESR has plastic ring posts, but they're made from silver plastic so they kind of look metal. They're surprisingly sturdy. The way they're built seems to make them sturdier than the Jakks Real Scale Ring posts, but my RSR is the first generation WM one and Jakks had to send replacement posts because the original ones kept caving in. Even the newer ones would curve inward. The ESR/ASR posts don't seem to as much, if it all. However, the ESR/ASR ring posts are much thicker than the RSR. Like roughly twice the thickness. It's a bit out of scale, honestly.

Thanks for that. The ropes on my Jakks WM2 ring are on their last leg but was holding onto it because of the cage accessories so glad to hear I can put the cage add ons with my Mattel ESR.

The RSC has the clips, since it is an earlier model of the ASR. I'm pretty sure you can send away for a replacement w the improved tie down feature though. I just bought the newer version at TRU because I don't care about having smack down anything and I wanted the improved ring mat immediately.

I haven't bought it from RSC since they started putting the straps on the ring mat. My version came with the first mat. I just emailed Wicked Cool Toys' customer service dept asking for a mat replacement and they sent me the new mat. All they have to see is the receipt of the purchase or the a picture of the code stamped next to the barcode on the box. The new mat was free.

ARGH!! I didn't realize that the ESR wasn't a constant on Mattel's site. It's gone again.

ARGH!! I didn't realize that the ESR wasn't a constant on Mattel's site. It's gone again. That sucks. I'm sure it won't be coming back. That thing has been out of manufacturing for at least 4 years. No idea why it suddenly showed up on their website again, but it's the same packaging it used to have, the kind they don't use anymore. So they definitely weren't manufacturing any recently. On the bright side, your decision is made for you.
