I've never understood the idea that anything past season 12 is bad. I can admit there are some admittedly not-so-great episodes amongst that time frame, too, and this is easily not only my all-time favorite show but basically the only thing I watch in my old age aside from movies and wrestling. Some people just look back fondly at it because they grew up with it, as much as I hate to use the word 'nostalgia.' I'm in no way trying to call anyone out, either. Just saying Simpsons has been such a constant, even with some junk here and there, that I don't see how anyone wouldn't be thrilled that there will always be so much of it available to us. Simpsons definitely declined after S8. Mostly because Mike Scully was showrunner. The best episodes of S9 were holdovers from S8 and there was actually 1 holdover from S7 which was the Navy one. As soon as Scully left, which was at the end of S12, the quality starting going back up as Al Jean took over again (who was showrunner for S3 and S4) I believe the two only terrible episodes of The Simpsons are Principle And The Pauper, and the Lady Gaga one.

I think it's time to wrap it up.

I think people say it's bad because that's when the colour changed.the colours they use now are too bright, where as series 1 to 12 the colour was just right, as I think they painted each frame by hand, which made the show more charming.

The Simpsons hasn't been any good since season 8/9. So my period of mourning began then and ended quite some time ago.
Simpsons season 2-8 is some of THE best TV ever filled with ludicrously funny pop culture crammed eps.. 10 onwards is some of the laziest crap ever committed to screen using celebrities as a crutch.

It's really bittersweet. On one hand the Simpsons has been such an iconic show, but on the other hand we have to wonder..... how far will the show sink into failure? I'll admit it's been years since I last watched new episodes. But the episodes I do remember are fantastic. I'm exactly the same. I own Seasons 1-12 and anything after that (apart from the movie) doesn't interest me. I just think they need to call it quits. I think perhaps they could do a send off movie, hopefully getting Shearer to take part and then everyone could move onto new projects. Think about it though, what new projects? The Simpsons is the peak of their careers. All of the voice actors on the Simpsons, at this point, will not obtain greater success than the Simpsons. I think Harry is just tired. 20+ years of any job is enough to make anyone want to retire. If he truly wanted to do outside work he would have. Look at Hank Azaria, the man has done lots of things outside of the Simpsons. I think it's just Harry being tired. And rightfully so, according to IMDB, Harry is in his 70's. He could have retired 10 years ago! Instead though he kept at it. So if he wants to retire I fully understand why. Season 1 of the Simpsons is pretty brutal to watch. Seasons 2 and 3 are so so. To me the Simpsons peaked in Season 6. After Season 6 it's all down hill from there.

Hank Azaria is the only person from The Simpsons cast that I can identify by their face.

I'd be surprised if some of the others didn't have some things they'd like to do without the restrictions of The Simpsons though. There must be the desire to try something new. I personally loved Season 2. 1 and 3 are extremely hit and miss to me though. 4-9 is my favourite television ever.

I'll agree that season 18 is where it started to pick up again. This past season is probably the best it's been since like, 11.

This sucks.
The show has really picked up a ton this season, too. Hopefully they can find someone quality to replace him - but I highly doubt it'll be the same.
