I'm working on a display of the greatest WWF wrestlers from the time I used to watch (1984 to 1992). I'm trying to limit the number of characters displayed, as sometimes I think less is better. Obviously Mattel offers upwards of 50 figures that would potentially fit into this timeframe, but my mission is to focus on the major ones. My obvious slam dunk choices were Hogan, Flair, Piper, Andre, Warrior, Savage, Undertaker and LOD. I had room for a few more, so I felt compelled to add Jake. Sgt. Slaughter is really on the fringe, but I opted to add him since he was officially a WWF Champion in 1991 and headlined the main event at a WrestleMania.
Honorable mention goes to the Million Dollar Man. He'd probably be my next add. I only wish he was available in the outfit he wore around the time of WrestleMania IV. I might also add Bobby Heenan if he is ever released. Sid Justice would also be very tempting if I was given the option.
Anyone have an argument of someone I should have included over one already in the picture? I realize there's possibly some personal bias on my part.

This is the approach I take to other non-wrestling toy lines. Just the heavy hitters. I think it looks good.

Looks good. Several guys could be added to it (Duggan, Kamala, Snuka, etc), but you have the big names. EDIT- Macho needs Miss Elizabeth.

I would add Bret Hart and Mr. Perfect. I think Slaughter and Dibiase are totally deserving.

Yes, good call on Elizabeth. I should really add her next to Macho.

Here's my feeling on Bret. During the time I watched, he was mostly a mid card wrestler. He started as a jobber and eventually won the tag team and intercontinental belts. I think he won the world championship in the fall of '92. That was around the time I stopped watching. I think '92 was a turning point in a lot of ways. In that year, we lost Hogan (after WM8), Piper, Warrior, LOD, Jake and Sid. Flair was gone by early '93. The only ones left were Savage (who was semi-retired) and The Undertaker. I personally would have preferred to see Undertaker with the belt over Bret, but that's just me. I think it was hard for me and other fans at the time to accept Bret as THE Champ.
In short, if I include Bret and Perfect, I'd feel compelled to include Rick Rude, Steamboat, Junkyard Dog, Dusty, Snuka and others. Bret is tempting though... I really like the Ringside Exclusive where he's wearing all pink

Yea I've been going back and forth with tag teams. I didn't want to include too many due to space, so I opted for only one - LOD. Demolition was three type champions while LOD only had the belts once in the WWF during that time, so it seems a bit lopsided that I would include LOD over Demoltion. Even though I was a big fan of Demoltion, I always felt like they were somewhat of an imitator to LOD. When the LOD finally made it to the WWF, it seemed like Demolition was sort of pushed aside. So, consider LOD one of my personal bias decisions

In addition to what's already been mentioned..... Honky tonk man! Who wore a belt longer than him? Not Jake

I definitely won't argue with that logic. I think Honky gets passed up on a lot of lists because his gimmick was comedic in a lot of ways and he wasn't viewed as a serious villain. I remember when Honky won the title and he had been doing a program with Jake at the time. I think everyone naturally assumed Jake would win the belt from Honky, but it never happened. I recall reading in recent years that Jake winning the belt may have been the plan at one point, but the belt wasn't given to him due to alleged injuries or personal problems. Fascinating stuff!

I thought about doing a display of 1990 only for that reason. Now that Earthquake is out, could have included him with Hogan (Hulk Rules Shirt). Mr Perfect and Texas Tornado are already out. If Mattel had already given us the Hart Foundation, it would be perfect! Could include them with Demoltion. That would take care of all the top matches.

Summerslam 90... maybe the greatest PPV of all time!

This is the general time period I am focusing on as well for my collection- the 'Golden Age' of WWF wrestling IMO. Due to the rising cost of these Mattel figures and the difficulty in find them at retail (or in the secondary market) here in Canada, I have decided to scale things back and reduce my wish list quite a bit. I am focusing on my favourites as well as the more iconic from that era, my suggestions are the ones that are bolded:
Current collection
George "The Animal" Steele Junkyard Dog Million Dollar Man Mr. Perfect Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat Rowdy Roddy Piper Ultimate Warrior
Legion of Doom
Wish List
Andre the Giant British Bulldog (Davey Boy Smith) Greg "The Hammer" Valentine Jake "The Snake" Roberts Hulk Hogan Macho Man Ric Flair Rick Rude Tito Santana
Hart Foundation

No Iron Sheik? His regular release Legends figure is so, so good.

Man you guys are good. I'm seeing a lot of commonality between the names you're suggesting and the next bunch I had on my list:
Ted Dibiase Mr. Perfect Rick Rude Bret Hart Mr. Wonderful Demolition Honky Tonk Man Ricky Steamboat Jimmy Snuka Junkyard Dog
I think I could easily double the figures in this display. The challenge is where to draw the line. I think you end up playing favorites at some point like I did.

I know. I love the Iron Sheik that Mattel did. I could slip him in since he was champ for a month, but it's hard when I remember him getting beat in most of his matches
I was trying to justify putting Kamala in there too, since he's another great figure, but I know he wouldn't fit with this line up.

Another suggestion for you that I can't believe I forgot to include on my wish list- The British Bulldog. Since your collection goes up to 1992, you should include a '92 Bulldog figure whenever its released (I am hopeful that Mattel will release one at some point in time).
On another note, I don't see them releasing any Hart Foundation figures any time soon which is why I am leaning towards getting the upcoming Bret Hart basic to serve as my HF Bret for now. I think if they were going to release HF figures they would have saved the tag belts for those figures instead of including them with Yokozuna. I wonder why they have been unable to sign Jim Neidhart to a deal or does WWE not want to sign him for some reason?!
Iron Sheik and Kamala are two of the guys that I had to take off my wish list due to the difficulty in finding these figures at a reasonable cost. Honky Tonk Man is another but I may add him in again down the road if they release another figure.
