Sorry for the Long read, but if anyone feels up to reading it or commenting on it, please feel free! Just need to put this out there.
So, over the years, I have been collecting pretty heavy with all of the different lines I like to collect. I collected Jakks and by the time Mattel took over, I had close to 600 Jakks WWE figures of all different types (RA, DA, CS, CSDA etc).
I have been with WWE Mattel since the beginning. I started collecting one character in each Basic and Elite. Over time, I started to convert a lot of basics into Elites and before you know it, I had every Elite released, plus all basics turned into Elites. It was close to about 300+ figures.
Now, you're all probably wondering, what's the point of this thread. Well, recently, I began to look at all of the collections I have and it kind of hit me a few weeks ago; what's the point in having all of these Elites? Did I really need 5 Big Shows? or 12 Cenas? So, in the last few weeks, I sold off about 1/3 of my Elite Collection. I am now at the point where I have 1 of each character, plus a few character collections (CM Punk, Randy Orton, etc). I have a feeling that these 100+ Elites will not be the last that I sell off.
I guess this is just kind of a thread to put myself out there and say that I have come to a point in my life where all of these figures just really aren't doing it for me like they used to. I have a very strong feeling that, in a few more years, I may be collecting very minimal amounts of stuff. I will more than likely keep my Star Wars Collection, only because that has been the biggest hobby of my life (from around the time I was about 2). Who knows what may happen? I have been married for almost two years now and my wife and I are not planning for kids right now (I am only 24 and she is 27) so we feel like there will be a time for us to have kids.
This forum has been a big part of my life (from around the time I became a Freshman in College). I have made a lot of good friendships from here and have really enjoyed my time on it, but I even find myself not on here as much as I used to be. I barely comment in threads, I barely make them and in all actuality, I don't get as excited about pre-orders, prot pics, lineups, etc as I used to years ago when Mattel first took over the line.
To keep this topic going, has anyone else ever come to a point in their lives that I am calling this "Mid-Collection Crisis" and felt that they didn't get out of collecting what they used to? Has anyone had a complete opposite turn from what I have and felt like they needed more in their collection(s)?
No worries, I'm not going any where *yet* but I feel like at some point in my life, collecting is going to be a lesser hobby of mine as opposed to what it used to be for me. I don't think I could ever give it up all-together, but I definitely think I will be cutting down as I get older. Who knows? I may never have another WWE figure in my house and I may never log on to this forum again in a few years, but I will definitely enjoy my collecting time while it exists now and if the point in my life comes, I will accept it. If not, I am okay with that as well!

I definitely have with some of my other collections. My Jakks I felt it big time and completely stopped collecting those. Just recently it happened with my Marvel Universe and G.I. Joe collections and now they are in storage. It sucks when it happens because I have sunk so much money into it that it really is disappointing. The weird thing about it is I don't even know the reasoning to why I lost interest.
It's also weird that it comes and goes. For example, about 8 months ago it happened with my Batman collection. Sold it completely off then, about 2-3 months ago I regretted it and started buying some of the stuff I had sold off.

I have always collected. Wrestling figures have always been there from day 1 of my life. Im now almost 29. So, i dont think i will ever stop collecting. However, i have lost alot of interest in the actual wrestling tv product in recent months. I think i have watched raw 2 times in 3 months.

I started at Elite 1 and left at Elite 12. Found myself back in the game at Elite 28, been collecting since. I've gotten everything I've wanted that I've missed, with the exception of about 10 figures (none are big money, lots of stuff in the realm of E22 Giant). Take a break, come back. But if you sell your entire collection I assure you, you will regret it. I just tossed stuff like E12 Kane and E1 Punk and others into a pile who collected dust for two years. I would be killing myself if I had sold them off instead.

I have the same discussion with myself every other week. I may stop at some point, but since I can't image ever not watching wrestling, I will also pay attention to what is going on with the figures.

I'm pretty much the same way. At times I want to stop collecting and sell the figures I have but the excitement hasn't gone yet. I feel like there will one day come a point where I stop collecting but for now I'm enjoying it. For me it's a hobby that my uncle started over 15 years ago and I took over. Regardless of all the money I could've saved, collecting and occasionally playing with my figures brings me joy.

This has definitely happened to me, and I think it's only natural. I needed some money and looked at bins upon bins of figures in my attic ... suddenly I realized I had no need for a lot of them and ended up selling a good number of them.
For me, what has worked was the decision to prioritize what I really liked and didn't like. Do I need four Santino Marellas? No. One is fine, if that. And so on. I sold probably 200 or so figures and don't miss any of them.
I still like collecting the new ones that come out, and will never part with my loose Legends collection. I find myself now buying a few doubles of figures I really, really like to keep one MOC, which I didn't do before ... I guess my new approach has been quality over quantity.
So my advice would be to think about what you really enjoy (or used to enjoy) out of this line and focus on that (or keep those figures) ... and if it's time for a break, you'll know. Nothing wrong with taking a break!

I hit the same thing through the Jakks run. I'm 34... So during Jakks I had all the CS line and RA, AD and CSaD. For me, it wasn't so much the figures as it was wrestling. I was huge fan through 90's and early 2000's. I sold a bunch of my RA for basically nothing, and only keep my CS and CSDA stuff. And let's face, compared to back then wrestling sucks. Wrestle mania is the perfect example... The whole thing is built around the past and has been for years...
Then Mattel got the license and it was almost over for me. I got all the defining moments and a few Legends but didn't even start a elite or basic collection. That changed around elite 16....
So what did I do? I branched out... As I got older and started to make more money, I start collecting higher end stuff. I now collect Play Arts Kai, I have awesome dead pool collection, brought my first 1/6th figure and of course my sneaker (Jordan) collection.
While wrestling figure will be the main stay of my collection, I no longer am a completist... I buy what I like, not what I think I should. And the other stuff is so expensive I can no longer afford to get it all, so now I drive the hobby, instead of it driving me...
I suggest u got back to ur Star Wars stuff, find something that u would of otherwise never considered buying due to cost, save up and pull the trigger and buy it - higher end collectables will hold value better so if it's the wrong decision, sell it later and likely for more money... I know that sounds stupid but when I drop $500 on a pair of shoes, I don't really care that missed out on a triple H figure.

I've hit the wall lately as well. I've considered over the past few weeks selling off the majority of my collection as I am moving and the extra dough would be nice, but part of me feels like I would regret it in the long run.

I'm there right now haha I have over 200 elites loose, but my passion has turned into signed moc elites, dm' and exclusives, along with posters, 8x10's etc.. However I found use for these loose figures when I made a lightbox yesterday and I'm able to showcase them to their full extent I think you need to find something to do with them... Like a hobby within a hobby. Otherwise you get to a point where you see them all just sitting there on a shelf and wonder.. Why do I have these? Or why do I keep buying them?

I can somewhat relate to this. With my Batman collection I originally collected loose. I lost interest and sold my whole collection. Just recently I regretted it and started picking up Batman figures again. However, now I am collecting and displaying them MOC. Which kind of gives it new live. I'm now more 'choosy' when picking which ones I want to add. I take into consideration the packaging; making sure it's mint and looks good on display.

I think this is also excellent advice and something I've done lately. I still have a few boxes of loose elites that never see the light of day, but now that I'm 31 and want a display a bit more "my age" I have only a few figures out in my living room -- MOC autographed Bret Hart RSC, Hogan DM, RSC Mick Foley and a non-auto L6 Warrior. I've gotten bitten by the auto bug lately and look to expand on that in the near future ... at this stage in my collecting life I think I'd prefer a few really awesome autographed MOC pieces instead of 50 loose uninteresting characters. I'd just warn against rash decisions. If you're not down with collecting currently, carefully box them up and tuck them away fir a while. If, six months to a year later you don't miss them at all, then that might be the time to start thinking about unloading them (I'd gladly taken 'em off your hands...heh heh). If, however, you realize you kinda miss them and hunting for them, then no harm, no foul. You can easily unbox them and jump back in.
I just find emotions and interests can be very fickle, and I've been far to quick and impetuous for my own good over the years.

I just find with having too many figures that you dont have enough time to appreciate them all..and just having them gets kinda boring.

I've felt like this many times. If I do I just take a break from it all until the itch comes back. I've been collecting wrestling figures since I was 5 years old so its kinda sentimental to me and brings back memories. Each figure I have I can usually remember where I got it which brings back even more memories.
Do what you like to do.
